You're paying for the time spent gathering essence. If he can make the cast with his current ranks, then having 303 + enhancives wouldn't matter.

If you have an item that requires a mutant build like that to enchant, you're likely going to be paying a ton extra anyway for fixskills and all that, since pretty much nobody is going to stay in a mutant build and still be able to max their weekly essence in a reasonable amount of time, and I haven't seen any wizards dumb enough yet to pay out of pocket to fixskills in and out of a mutant build to enchant a difficult item.

FWIW, I had no issues enchanting one recently until they took it up to T4 or T5 Ensorcell. Then it became impossible. I think it was T2 or T3 when I was making successful casts on it, but I don't remember for sure.

101 ranks, everything else maxed.
