View Full Version : Support Cleric Training Advice...

So this is my cleric and he is primarily a support character. However i have started hunting with him lately and changed his training to push CS a little higher. I'd like to ask for advice on training and lores. What should I shoot for? I'd like his lores to focus mainly on support, ie. getting full chrisms ASAP, etc.
However I dont want to gimp his hunting too much either as I will continue to hunt with him from now on. I pushed to get 225 and 130 as these are very helpful utility spells in rescuing my dead characters. However now i'm not sure which spell circles to focus on next.
Thoughts?

Maybe someone has a similar or higher level cleric built for support in mind but also not gimped on hunting they could share? I just noticed the spell aim. That is really shitty, i used a fixskill and seem to have forgot to get rid of his spell aim, as I dont even use it to hunt. That was a big mistake and alot of TPs i could put elsewhere. Might have to buy a potion now :(
Thanks,

I already see changes, maybe i was high when i fixskilled him last. I should have gotten rid of all his spell aim, and capped out cleric ranks for max CS. DOH!

Actually, the spell aim isn't a problem unless it's keeping you from getting the spells/lores you want for support. It will allow you to hit things with 309.

Spell Aiming:
While I am post cap I just fixskilled back to PU spell aiming due to the clerical changes.
306 - against living is pretty solid now IMO as is 111 and even web bolt has it's uses. We already know 306 is solid against most undead.
309 - great setup spell that is heavily SA based now.
320 - SA helps with attack similar to 309. Great mana reduction spell which gets even better when you include spell aiming to make 306/309 able to be put into your rotation.
IMO, clerics are kinda forced into picking up SA now but it makes their kit more well rounded with more versatility. Otherwise it's 302, 312, 317 spam.
If you are just looking for a 302 spam bot then you definitely don't need SA. Alternatively you could put those into the lores.
Chrism Requirements...
Blessings: 10 ranks (50 skill)
Religion: 25 ranks (105 skill)
Summoning: 15 ranks (70 skill)
I like 60 in religion too for 350...2 BESEECH uses/day. I like to go ham in OTF by finding a swarm dropping 325 and then doing my mana efficient rotation with 320. But sometimes I get too greedy. But my point is this can help you with a failed rescue or biting off more than you can chew.
Additional Support Plus:
If you have access to a bunch of imbeddible gems (you have a bard)...do not forget about 325. It's probably my favorite support spell in the game. BLESS {spell #} IN {gem} USING {activator} FOR {# of charges desired} CHARGES. I've made tons of 211, 102, 303, 307 gems for my other characters.

I have zero Spell Aiming now but it does help with 309/320, so definitely use those spells since you are trained for them but you don't have enough SA to bolt.
Personally, the SA spells are viable but I do not find them necessary since you can just use CS spells with less training, which would give you more TPs, which you could use on lores.
For maximizing Cleric Base CS, try to have your level + 21 in Cleric Base ranks. As for your other skills, you are not fully trained. You should be able to get another couple ranks in each skill at the same cost of singling/doubling.

He's got 88 ranks @ 44, should be able to bolt fine.

Really, you don't need any kind of special training for a "support cleric." If you really want to make perfect chrisms, get a lot of blessing lore, but you can find them so cheap in playershops now it's almost not worth the trouble.

Yes, I sure got that wrong. He is almost 2x. He can bolt.
khorpulent is right, you can't really mess this up. I would also add that Cleric (like Bard) seem to be one of the game's favored professions. I believe this is by design since the game needs clerics.
Clerics are pretty hard to kill especially now with 320. And even if you die, you can raise yourself :lol2:
Their training costs are also pretty low for physical skills - check out Armor Use and compare to Sorcerers. So you can certainly have a mutant build more easily, or have a more defensive build with Phys Fit, Armor, Shield, CM.
edit: 319, not 320, makes clerics hard to kill. 320 is great too :P

Thanks, i guess i will work on blessing lore next. Since my main is a bard, i have orbs coming out of my ears, so might as well make full chrisms when i can to use on my characters. Plus i like carving my own designs in the chrisms with my lapidary box.
For now I am only 302ing, but i realize that is just scraping the surface of what I can do. I will definately start trying other spells soon but could use the TPs from SA on lores for now.

Since you're trained for it, next time you're hunting undead go for the 301 to 309 dunk. It's GS on easy mode.

Never tried that, sounds interesting. Any good undead spots for 44 in Illistim? That's where my team is parked.

Not sure, haven't hunted there in over a decade. But the same trick works with living stuff, just replace 301 with Bind. Both spells add a 100 bonus to 309s roll.

Only place I can think of is Sylvaraend Rd...check out Yegarren Plain, Black Moor, and North Barrow area.
