I'm an elf COL polearm using bard. I hunt with spells from Ranger, Sorc, wiz, and empath.

I'm basically following the comprehensive bard guide, and the guide suggests charge for polearm users.

When I ask on lnet, almost everyone says they didn't like it and got rid of it.

Here are the ones that look interesting to me to use as an opener.

Dirt kick
Disarm (using sonics ATM so don't need the defense against dsiarm.)
feitn
sweep
trip

Any suggestions? I've never had a character that uses CMAN's before.

Thanks,

I used trip a lot.

If you're using a sonic weapon you don't have to worry about being disarmed.

Do you use it as an opener?

Trip is one of the better CMANS, but I generally don't focus too much on CMAN use until 30 if you full 2x CM ranks.

Most mobs under 30 have weak defense anyways, and are very slow. A stance dance should be more than enough to deal with them.

CMAN use becomes more prevalent when you are facing mobs in the 40s because they have more tricks.

Yep. It's adequate.

If you're a polearm bard with outside spell access, you're going to be gibbing things anyway so it's a little superfluous early on as Sile said.

I've got 20 cman points, so I'll probably get trip to level 3.

personally I use CMAN precision for cman and my openers are 1002 or 1005.

pretty much none of the bard cmans are worth a damn. feint is by far and away the best but with 1005, you barely need it anyway. cunning defense is can be useful just as a passive. i don't think i've ever bothered to use all of my cman points since everything sucks
