Hello friends, I was directed by Gemstone Discord to ask this question on this forum and in this folder because apparently the most knowledgeable members of the Lich community post here.

I’ve been hounded to my wit’s end to download and install Lich but I’m a tad wary due to a lot of banking information I keep on my computer. I’m not tech savy , in fact, barely able to operate a computer and my grown son keeps telling me not to download anything off the internet. So, can anyone here who’s a wiz at this stuff vouch for Lich? How safe am I using this computer program?

Safe enough. You'll be fine. Most of us have been using it for over a decade with no issues, and Tillmen makes too much money irl to give a shit about trying to hack our accounts.

As far as I am aware, no one has ever reported a security issue with lich. I take it you are concerned it could be used as a backdoor into the computer like facebook messenger? I have never worried about it. It is such a small community that to go through the effort to hack it would require a lot of effort with not a lot of return since the minute someone reported an incident everyone would stop using it.

And then GS would die because Tillmen > Simu

You have a better chance being hacked via Simu's plaintext passwords.

The nice thing about Lich is it's all open source so if there were shenanigans going on someone probably would have noticed it by now.

Ruby is an incredibly powerful scripting language and can do some really wonky application and resource calls. What I've found of the front end is incredibly secure, the scripts themselves can accomplish concerning things however. Just make it a point of opening up the .lic files you download and look for anything seeking your IP or port statuses.
