View Full Version : Most embarrassing weapon to take a whooping from in game.
After receiving a beatdown via ball and chain this morning, I've had a thought.
Which is the absolute worst weapon to take a beating from? Whip-blade seems to be a pretty popular answer on LNet. I feel like there's something worse though.

Ages ago we had leprechaun's invade for some St Patrick's day hijinks, they wielded Shillelagh, nothing like a beatdown by midgets with cudgels to brighten your day.

Hah, I remember those shillelaghs. I snatched a few up and sold them for like 20K each which has YUGE money to me.

I've caused quite a few people to die by rolton in the small park back in GS3 when you could load them up with strength, bravery, heroism, and 117 them. Not to mention dropping wiz shield, wof, and lesser shroud on them, with all the other defensive spells. It was pure n00b terror.

You didn't get the hats and shamrocks Peam? the shamrocks sold for more then the shillelaghs if I recall right, wearable pin fluff, and not a clover which I think is foragable somewhere.

Throwing net: At the present time this is perhaps the most pitiful and useless weapon available. E.g., When used against a target wearing plate class armor, the minimum endroll required to inflict a rank 1 critical is 1150 and a 2150 ER for a rank 2 critical. A complete review of thrown weapons is due at some future date.

I honestly think every base should be reviewed. I'd like for there to be more differences between weapons other than RT, AvD, and DF. Be cool if some naturally "sundered" armor, for instance, lowering the AC for a duration. Whips should have a large chance of causing falls when aimed at the legs, or disarming when aimed at the arms. And a nice chance to break a neck when going for the neck. A lot of CMans should just be rolled into just something the weapon does. MBlow should just be a naturally occuring possibility with a 2HW for instance.

Unfortunately I think they're between a rock and a hard place right now because of the way they've historically handled "weak" weapons. Over the last 20 years they've released a lot, a LOT of "special" versions of shitty weapons that make them not shitty. Making that weaponbase not shitty on top of the special properties would result in an awful lot of insanely powered weapons in circulation.

Nah. They could just do it. People will be mad. Others will be happy. Allow conversions.

They have added bases a few times, and with the exception of longsword they are all essentially useless, even the brawling weapons they released en masse aren't worth using in general, we are essentially where we were in GS3 in regards to bases people use.

I'm not really saying to release new bases. I'm saying the review every weapon and give them some sort of ability to make up for them having craptastic DFs and such. Give a reason to use weapons other than their DF, AvD or RT.

Edged I think is in a fairly good spot, and really for the most part always has been. There are only a few bases where I couldn't think of a legitimate use in 2019 for them. Two handed, blunt and polearm are in okay spots. There aren't so many "bad" weapons in those categories as there are one or two that are slightly better for the majority. I'd still rock a jeddart axe, naginata, or battleaxe in a lot of situations though to name a few off the top of my head. Couple notable exceptions there, such as the criminally underappreciated quarterstaff and whip, but they're not terrible. Brawling, thrown, ranged though? Bad shape. There's one (or zero) clear winner and everything else is hot garbage.

No, whips are terrible. You are being way too generous.

Whips and quarterstaves are both terrible. I meant "not terrible" in reference to that weapon type on the whole. Whips are terrible, but blunt weapons overall are okay. There aren't a lot of "bad" weapons on there. Just one or two that are better slightly for the majority.

I wholeheartedly agree.
85% of weapon bases are absolute trash. The bases need a complete rewrite. Either that or cut the bases way down and allow conversion - like allow a scimitar to be converted to a falchion, allow an estoc to be a short sword, etc.

They have terrible, worse than shit-tier stats and do miserable damage. I feel like if you get hit by one it's kind of embarrassing. Now if you die to one? Close the account.

You should also be able to swing from trees with a whip.
And shoot people with a revolver who come at you with swords.

fire bat
You fire a 5.56 round at a huge winged bat!
AS: +244 vs DS: +173 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +81 = +177
... and hit for 5348 points of damage!
The winged bat augers into the ground, its death spiral ending in a **THUD**.
Lacking the force and angle to lodge in a huge winged bat, the 5.56 round simply falls.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

You used to be able to chop/blow a limb off a critter or player and then beat them to death with it. Was considered a blunt weapon.
I would also think getting kicked in the balls to death via groin kick would be a hell of a way to go.

Limb Disrupt (708) still has a chance of making a limb that acts as a cudgel. If you have necromancy, those limbs will have a very low chance of becoming a cudgel. Those disrupted limbs inspect as wood and typically weigh a ton.

I had this same thought a couple of months ago.
My conclusion was a throwing net. Or a throwing net being used as a whip!
A crossbow being used as a blunt was also an interesting thought (or a bow as a staff).
An ambusher could technically make the throwing net as a whip actually kill.

Use a throwing net with 1206.
But that would actually take the DF from 1206.
Couldn't find a throwing net so:
You gesture at an ivory-hilted tapered iron epee.
You levitate an ivory-hilted tapered iron epee at a rabid squirrel!
AS: +44 vs DS: +17 with AvD: +52 + d100 roll: +61 = +140
... and hit for 44 points of damage!
Good blow to chest!
The rabid squirrel twitches its tail one last time and dies.
After a few moments, you summon the tapered iron epee back to your hand.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

This happened to my capped sorc in REAM. I posted about it once... took like 13 groin kicks in a row.... was kept in rt lock the entire time...
Someone else posted a log of coming into the room I was in just as the final groin kick killed me.

I'm hoping they actually change nets and bolas over to SMRv2 when you throw them, having them actually snare/tangle/trip up the target. Having the items actually based on AS/DS is stupid.
