Nice stats, nice training, nice race. Keep in mind anyone interested, Halfling is potentially the best small race for monk. They've got all the strengths, being only a hair beneath gnomes on the maneuver defense totem, and have the natural racial ability to offset a monk's hardest area to round out - Elemental TD. Halflings get a large natural bonus to Elemental TD, and that's the only circle monks can't self cast. 90-98 is or so is also ultra easy mode in the aqueducts/woods. Use that fixskill and pump your trading way up. It's richer than you'll see at cap and you're virtually unkillable there. Like giant rats all over again.

Added some additional info (spirit cs/td, redux, and cman training). I know monks tend to get some serious negative flack but he has always been super easy to hunt self supported and only really dies to the insta-death everyone is prone to. Can hunt Nelemar, OTF, or Rift without to much trouble.

Seriously, though. Why is it that no one values monks? I think I saw one on the forum sell for like $25. I've been playing a monk and really enjoying it, but I'm only in my 20s. Do they have challenges at higher levels compared to other classes?

When they were first released, they were underwhelming. They didn't have access to mstrike via UAC, which is the thing that makes monks absolute UAC powerhouses. They were basically rogues that couldn't hide and warriors that couldn't wear plate, but without guild skills. People in the beginning had no idea what they were doing and treated them as full squares as well, which led to them having TD issues. There's been a stigma ever since.

They're very well balanced now though. If their spell circle is ever fully implemented, I won't have any complaints.

They got NO value post cap, they don't bring anything you can use to bonify your other account, if you have another.. besides provok and even there.

Cleric raises, empaths heal, sorcerer and wiz juices item. Ranger skins (well better than most normally), bard can loresing/purify… Monk?

Monk removes fear, increases spawn rates, lowers stamina usage of the group by up to 40% or adds +30 DS. So basically the same kind of utility a paladin has, only more useful, plus additional DS and TD spells to cast on others that nobody else can cast. Best maneuver defense in the game.

If DR is your bag, Capped monks fly through the arena. Not faster than a wizard/sorcerer, but who does? I routinely got 3-3.5 minute runs though, and I'm lazy as hell.

Not to mention, Monks are incredibly self sufficient. Self spelled with no spectacular gear, Flimbo never had to leave stance offensive. Ever. For any reason. Not lying stunned on the ground could he be hit by anything he hunted.

Sounds just awful to me.

Yeah, character values wildly fluctuate. You've clearly worked hard on this guy. Can you give us a ballpark of what you are looking for?

I gotcha bro. I totally get what you mean and I believe you.

You're sounding like someone bragging over a Toyota Corolla. You are right, it's ok. But when you tasted something better, it's hard to go back to "ok".

It lacks the "HMPF" effect the tier 1 profession provides (wiz/sorcerrer/bard) or the "ouff" effect tier 2 professions provide ( cleric/empath/ranger) or even the "fffffff" effect tier 3 professions provide (Warrior/rogue). They're tier 4 profession "ok i guess" (paladin/monk).

Monks aren't for everyone but the narrative that they're trash is a poor one. If your other characters are GOS, having a monk in the party with a bunch of telepathy (?) lore is great with 1213. I've got a friend whose 10m or so exp monk runs 1213 and drops sigil of power to 32 stamina. I can almost literally hunt perpetually in a group with him.

I'm not him obviously, but here's my two cents. If you're in the market for a monk, this is the right one to be in the market for. Stats are already set. Training plan is already good. Race choice is arguably the best one for a monk.

Naked, I'd call $350 in the ballpark as an average at level 91. As low as 300 and as high as 400 are also reasonable depending on the motivation of the buyer and seller provided the name isn't like "Ultraleetkillerguy"

I agree with your assessment. I am genuinely interested in what the buyer wants for him.

Stumplicker covered it pretty well. Every profession will suffer from something, some more than others. Monks are classified as squares but I think they fall more in line with semi's, especially paladins. Biggest issue I have as a halfling monk is encumbrance but it is easily mitigated with simu encumbrance potions and a disk.

Always had silly DS. I stopped using 102 in my 60's and never struggled with defense. Vanilla gear as well (5x robes and 5x realm flaring UAC gloves/boots)

Self spelled DS Stance offensive:

A n'ecare swings a long blackened jeddart-axe at you!
AS: +386 vs DS: +475 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +95 = +46
A clean miss.

Self spelled DS Stance defensive:

A n'ecare swings a long blackened jeddart-axe at you!
AS: +386 vs DS: +731 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +11 = -294
A clean miss.

100% agree. I started him knowing full well a monk would never be the best support or silver generating profession but I've had the most fun on him. I'm sure I will regret selling him but I'm not logging as many hours as I used to.

My value assessment pretty much falls in line with what Stumplicker quoted. Maybe leaning closer to the $400+ mark. I'm in no rush to sell but will listen to reasonable offers. I could also be talked into including all his decent gear(swcp robes, realm flaring UAC set, blessable 6x swcw UAC set, all have some ensorcelling but I'd need to check everything)

this is correct and people who think monks are still awful, at combat, have either never played one or still have the image of them pre-roundtime adjustments, pre mstrike, pre quickstrike, etc. changes (which they were pretty god damn bad without those things)

That said I would still put them on the lower end of the balance spectrum, but they are there as opposed to release monks which weren't even in the ballpark.

However they still have essentially 0 out of combat utility, and as such are similarly valued to say, paladins who are in the same boat and likewise are generally valued at shit and a half. But if you want to actually hunt with one, 1213 + 1235 for your MA crew is fan-fucking-tastic.

Donquix

Also, realize if you are buying for long term play monk spells are not finished yet. That’s huge. It means there’s opportunity for your monk to completely pop in terms of value if a spell comes out that will change the game for them.

I mean....like fucking what? lol. The only slots open are shroud of deception, marginal use but neat i guess if you're living that dark elf life without access to FWI, mindwipe ok cool but you can already kill stuff fine, and ? a 30th level spell? 50th? for minor mental when they can't even implement a fucking level 6 spell without embarassing themselves.

That said estild has said he understands monks and paladins provide the least utility in the game and would like to address it, but has no idea on what to do so yeah....get in on this sick monk deal now in the hopes they figure it out and do it before the heat death of the solar system.

I forgot to mention - add another $100 to my estimate if the character's name is something awesome. Personally I have my fingers crossed for "Broos Leeroy".

And yes, Donquix, Shroud of Deception would itself be worth a few extra bucks. It was the main reason I made a monk. When I made Flimbo I said "This spell will be implemented by the time I'm capped for sure, and it will be integral to my RP". It was not, is not, and still would have been an integral part if it ever had been implemented.

Last year Estild said it would be done by December (2018). That was about a year ago at this point he said it, so I wouldn't hold my breath, but it was at least being looked at at one point.

He also said he was "half done" because he finished the superficial "you see flimbo the half-korlvin savant" part, and none of the actual game systems that matter parts. So, lol at estild's ability to estimate project scopes.
