Yeah, roblar hit that too. Apparently its the next (and for some reason MORE problematic) Y2K style bug. Roblar brought it up and I thought they fixed it by putting a cap on it somewhere?

Rjex
06-16-2019, 11:19 PM
Well, they certainly didn't fix it, I lost a lot of contracts cause I didn't notice the date change.

At least now we know the latest date GS will stop working.

Roblar

Yep, there will be a cap put in to prevent going past the date.

They'll restore your urchin status to whichever safe date before it rolls over.

See you in 2038! (hopefully)

I love how "and disarm still won't be fixed" is like the Gemstone equivalent of "still a better love story than Twilight"

also: GM's and not just fixing the worst fucking things in the game is in fact still a better love story than Twilight

It rules that Disarm itself is literally going to remain exactly as it is even with the 'disarm updates'. They're just going to implement some complicated timesink clusterfuck item recovery. Disarm is going to remain disarm. And that, friends, is a hearty lmao

I realize I am the minority on this one, but I'm all for disarm not being fun, which could be through a timesink clusteruck. Item loss is ballsack and should never happen at this point in the game, but does it have to be nerfed into oblivion? Death has been made trivial and I think that sucks. Disarm could be cool, and it SHOULD remain troubling enough to be a pro/con choice of hunting grounds. I've seen a lot of folks complain about "never using their choice weapon" for fear of disarm, then also getting all up in arms at the idea they might lose their item for 24 hours. Thats still a HUGE improvement on where they are at isn't it? Really the big change should be in how the lost item is handle in the hunting ground. I saw a de-legged skeleton giant lying in a room once and I left him. He stayed for HOURS. I named him something stupid and he was my homie for a while, but I digress. If the lost item kept the critter from despawning (as apparently some things can do) most folks would be able to reacquire their items. There is still player theft which would require a bit more fine tuned approach, but just keeping the creature/item from despawning would take care of MOST problems requiring an assist.

Graverobbing is super fucked though.

As far as I understand the recovery system being worked on simply replaces having GMs pull them manually from janitor repository, you pay some silvers and bounty points and voila, you have it back. But if another player picks it up while it was on the ground, you're still shit out of luck.

Disarm could be cool

Ask Zoleta how she's enjoying the disarm experience.

I just don't think there's any justification for your item leaving your possession involuntarily when Simu themselves have created a system/events (DR, etc) where you can pump hundreds/thousands into your item if you so choose. They can't have it both ways. P2W uber items, OR forcing items from your hands - not both.

For the millionth time, they should have just turned it into Sunder Weapon and been done with this absolutely ages ago. Incur RT, remove parry defense from the weapon, weapon unusable for X amount of time.

The main issue is that there's zero confidence that Simu will do anything to make it anything less than the most stupid most senseless shit ever, to the point where people would probably prefer old (current) Disarm.

They're that stupid now. They've always been stupid, but they're dumber than they've ever been these days.

That's exactly the thing. They give ways to spend ludicrous amounts on items and still would give you the "too bad so sad" line if a player picks it up. Quite ridiculous, particularly with how easy disarm is to fix. Any of these would do:

1. Strip disarm from creatures that have it. Then spend 15 years thinking of how you can re-implement it. Boom, done!

2. Replace disarm code with incurred RT instead. Such and such knocks your sword to the ground! You scramble to pick it up! RT: 15 seconds. Done! So simple, so easy. Why make something more difficult than it has to be?

How is that different than picking up your weapon after 10 seconds?

Item loss in a P2W game, especially shit like GS where shit goes for hundreds/thousands of dollars is bullshit and everyone knows it.

The only people who still care about having item loss are you and Krakii.

A disarm style mechanic as a penalty seems okay to me, but the idea that your registered weapon can get disarmed, you die, and it gets picked up by a player and kept but a GM can see that and won't return it to you is just ridiculous.

I’m pretty sure that the primary purpose of disarm is to make you die easier and item loss is just a side effect that Simu is literally too stupid to address.

Wyrom's response to disarm not being fixed was...

"Disarm isn't the number 1 reason why people assist in game."

Total BS. The real reason disarm is not "fixed" is because Wyrom wants to monetize off of it. Wouldn't surprise me GM Finros said screw this and left the current dev undone. Literally all Simu has to do is change the CMAN from disarm or the spell from itchy curse to literally ANY other CMAN or spell that doesn't cause item loss. But no, can't do that because it doesn't equal $$$.

Removing disarm is dumb but I can see why people want the investment protected. They could make it so once you pick up the weapon, you get some flavor messaging. Like, "You pick up a broadsword. You recognize this weapon as (name). You last recall seeing them in the area of (last known town characters interacted or were)." Chances are you're running past or looking at a character. It makes sense to link a registered weapon to the owner in some RP form.

Make a weapon that you actually own stick out when you register it or something.

I didn't realize that bluster carried such an aggressive connotation. Wasn't my intention with it but its not so far off the mark. In any case, it's still not ironic. Ironic is you being illiterate while playing a MUDD. You should care if you misunderstood someone, it should matter. But it doesn't, and that's a bummer.
