Silly question. If it hides all features then how do you know to look at <player name>? Since it hides the features shouldn't it hide the name too since there are no features to distinguish who they are?

For GemstoneIV a name is the designation of a person. A feature is an aspect of something. Sadly this only hides features, and to my knowledge there Is nothing in the game that changes your name (because it would likely be abused).
