Okay, quick poll to see what players of wizards think....

How do you think wizards should acquire essence?
1) Hunting only, where only damage from AS/CS spells counts.
2) Hunting only, where any damage the wizard does counts.
3) Active in general, whether hunting (option number 2) or not; hunting would give more essence than normal, interactive activity
4) Semi-passive, where the wizard needs to be in-game, to acquire a small amount of essense per pulse; hunting would still give more essence.
5) Passive, where all wizards gain a small amount of essense each pulse, no matter if they are in-game or not; hunting would still give more essence.

A mixture would be cool. All spells should accrue essence, but attack spells accrue the most and there is also a much slower passive route where it just builds up over time. So I voted for all the options.

Any damage the wizard does + small amount naturally. I'm not sure they should have to be in-game or not, as parking wizards at a table afk isn't a great look, but maybe if it's just small amount with a weekly/daily cap.

Double if they train in taco lore.

I think it works fine as is. My wizard caps his essence in a reasonable time with normal hunting with minor steam. If you want to throw a bone to the whiners though, 250 essence at midnight when you get the 250 longterm absorb, but only if you have the longterm exp in your pool. That ensures you were at least online and getting exp at some point.

Why would a mage get more power to enchant via destructive powers? How about spelling others? You don't manipulate mana better each cast? If my 503 or my 911 is saving others by making them harder to kill, why am I not getting more essence than slowing a damn critter?

I'd set a cap per cast per unique target (friendly or unfriendly) per x minutes.

Agreed, with both. And, yeah, option 4 is pretty much a recipe for afk-table wizards, but it's certainly better, and more likely a scenario, than option 5.

I don't see 4 as better than 5, though. I can see the idea behind 4 as being an attempt to get people to participate or something, but on simu's end, it's just something easily exploited by the players and would not serve its intended purpose. On the player's end, it's just an extra hassle. Nothing good comes out of it either way, just half hearted lip service toward pocket enchanters being somehow bad.

5 is realistic and has no weird hoops to jump through or tedium to deal with. I've never had a kill poached by a pocket enchanter, nor had one zip around on my screen obnoxiously when I'm anywhere in game, or annoyed in any other way by one. They seem largely a non-issue to me.

I don't care if it takes me all week, hunting a few hours here and there, but, I was able to cap my mana or come close with my current build every week without issue. I didn't cap it last week with the change, and I likely won't this week. People should not have to tweak their builds to use a class defining ability. More effective, yes, just to use it, no.

I love the insta +1 and not having the item locked from use but I'm a bit upset that if I get bored with my wizard, they've now taken away the ability for me to enchant items for my alt in the background unless I also spend a ridiculous amount of time farming essence.

As much as it sucks for people with pocket enchanters, overall I think the idea behind the change is good even if the actual implementation sucks.

The smart thing would be to have a cumulative Elemental Defense that unlocks a threshold at higher levels and replace 406 or 414 with an Essence boost of some manner. The idea that you have damaging spells with no other supplemental methods to boost it is poor optics and even poorer planning.

IF and that’s a big ‘IF’ this is true, that Simu did this all to make enchanting more labor and time intensive in order to sell enchanting certs (even lower end certs like 5x->6x) then that is really fucked up.

Have the well run so dry that Wyrom needs to sponge up on what was a Wizard’s birthright since forever. I don’t believe even Simu will stoop that low.

I am under the impression Wyrom gave 2 conditions for 925 tweaking: annihilate pocket wizards AND put a grinding system related to the amount of skills you have (the higher skills = better at getting essence).

Why those 2 conditions? Objectivaly, it's to answer to a 2019 condition: MOST PEOPLE ARE LAZY AND ARE WILLING TO PAY TO SAVE TIME

It's a marketing concept a lot of companies know: people would rather pay to save time than to do it themselves.

I find those 925 changes to fall completely in that concept WITH the elimination of the pocket wizard ( therefore, forcing an effort in time to enchant).

As far as I know, Naos's testing consisted of running a script with unlimited mana and it took him 8 hours to hit the weekly cap.

He also has no idea what his lore setup was during this per his own words on Discord, because he's such a pro and all.

I do like the fact that 'activity' is required. I don't mind that the 'primary' activity selected is hunting. I do like the fact that all of the 100 plus active pocket-enchanting wizards (leading to 400-600 major projects annually, which could arguably be said to be game-breaking) are disadvantaged - not sure how I feel about 'totally removed'. But that is an entirely different topic.

Yeah, I would think that left unchecked it did / would. 400 to 600 major projects (or even half that, I would submit) is certainly not in the 'rare' happenstance bucket. Neither you nor I see the actual numbers, so this is only an inference. But in a game where there are about 500-1000-ish active player characters (you know, those that hunt), anything approaching 50% of that population isn't 'rare' at all from my perspective. Queue up all the relevant discussions about costs of items, baseline moving to 6x in game, effects of dumping large quantities of uber items, etc., etc. I can respect if you personally feel for you it is totally rare - you know, from a single mage's perspective. But game wide. . .

Yaku on teras told me with the recent changes, his axe I was able to do at 97% is impossible. I checked, and it was impossible.

So with the changes, they force people to hunt to get mana but made the formula harder to enchant if you're not specialized… and ultra specialized makes hunting harder (a little like those pocket wizards were trained to get those ultra high items).

When you'll be french speaker and you'll learn another language, i.e. English, we'll talk about some other general difficulties we encounter, mainly the gender and number of words in general. In french, the noun has a gender, EVERY damn noun has a gender and that gender determine the gender of the determinant (the) and the adjective.

So, for example, you can say la table bleue (table is feminine, the determine is accorded to the noun, so feminine, and the adjective is feminine). Moreever, some verb tense ARE INFLUENCED by it. La table bleue est briséE (notice the E at the end of past participle).

And I just spoke about gender, plural is ANOTHER iteration. And it's jsut adjective, plural and gender rules here. I could throw other rules my kids are struggling with when learning English and they say: Dad, you're so good in English. I laugh when they say so.. LOL.

Why this? You'll notice, if you care, I got issues on lnet with plural, for example. You guys DON'T use a determinant when using plural (horses are cool, women are beautiful). We do so often I'll say: the horses are cool, the women are beautiful. It makes no sense for you, it does for me with my mind thinking in french.


So, usually, my English is better in the morning and gets worst in evening cause my brain tends to speak more in french and stick to it mainly the rules I'm conditioned (like you guys are with English).

But thanks again man, next time on discord, don't be shy and get a mike. I'll speak to you and you'll be surprised how good my English is good verbally. And then you'll find I do some mistakes here and there. It's fascinating, isn't?
