The verbs and tones are probably written in their in game scripting language. Same one they use for flares and "scripts" crap. I'm sure the base of the verb stuff is a spaghetti coded nightmare like everything else is. I forget who and when I was talking to about it, but some GM let me know that a lot of what we call "code" is actually just an in game OLC interacting with the base C or C++, and that the actual code doesn't really get touched all that often.

Edit: Like mobprogs if you're familiar with Diku or looking for an equivalent.

I've fucked with scripts and stuff a very, very small about. Changing a word in it isn't super hard. When you do it a lot, it is pretty easy. Tones and verbs don't seem like they'd be a difficult change when you know exactly what you're doing.

No, I'd imagine not. If those are a code based thing rather than an OLC, it's probably as simple as adding/changing a C data table entry. Maybe even an XML file. No harder than opening and saving a spreadsheet.

Yeah, tones and verbs *shouldn't* effect any other systems, so I don't see where it would require a lot of work. Don't put it past a GM to be a drama queen though.

If, at the time, there was someone on staff who was already familiar with the system and adding to it, clearly they could just tack on some more stuff. If that person is gone, and Ixix had to learn it, that doesn't make those two things mutually exclusive. I'm sure if you tossed Ixix a suggestion today and they liked it, they could add it quick also. But i'm sure the new tones will also somehow be related to mini bosses, and you'll have to SAY things at the bosses in certain tones to make them drop their immunities so you kill it, so i dunno...maybe just don't engage ixix.

That would be the gayest thing ever, but still wouldn't require an additional change when adding new tones or verbs, unless you wanted them to also effect said boss
