I'm trying to maximize the amount of TPs I have available for lockpicking and other types of picking. I'm currently OHE/0.5x TWC/2x Hide/2x Ambush, but I'm sure there's a cheaper, more effective way to go. I'm dancing around a level (30) where most things start working half decently.
Does anyone know which is the path with the fewest TPs that will also be able to keep me alive?

TWC isn't worth it for anything short of 2x. If you want to make a TWC dedicated locksmith, they will have to be an open combat specialist. You'll need gear and outside spells.
Go 2x picking and UAC ambushing and thank me later.

I was hoping to lower my TPs per level, not add to them. I'm already 2x picking. I'm just trying to get closer to 3x.

As far as cheapest for a locksmith, you want ranged.
8 ranks of armor for doubles, 2x ranged, ambush, PF, dodge, s&h,perception. Rest can go into lock/disarm, 15 ranks arc sym for scarabs, some cman for maneuvers, then spells

Huh. I hadn't thought of that. I'll check it out. Thanks. About how long does it take before you can reliably stay in hiding when firing a bow? It does sound like it'd save a ton on armor use/shield/TWC points and such if you can stay hidden most of the time.

2x is enough to stay hidden 80-90% of the time vs non-perceptive living creatures.
2.5x makes a little difference vs undead/perceptive
3x makes it 75%ish effective vs undead/perceptive
the 2x dodge makes up for those and cman vanish is a good thing to have on stand-by

I'm saying that two-weapon combat isn't worth training for a rogue unless A) they don't pick or B)they don't hide. Since you want to do both, TWC is right out.

Your suggested training includes TWC. Unless you're talking also about training in shields, which is also more expensive. At any rate, I don't think it's for me. Thank you for the help though.

I agree that TP wise, an open ranged build is the cheapest (that is also effective.).
