Ernst Zundel was deported from Canada to Germany today. It seems Zundel's crime was denying the Holocaust. While I don't agree with him I am concerned that one can be deported, from a so called free country for voicing one's opinions.

It seems rather Orwellian to me being arrested for a thought crime.

Statement from Zundel's lawyers (http://am.novopress.info/index.php?p=239)

We kicked his ass out first

US > Canada

I have to disagree with him being deported. We should be allowed to voice our opinions, no matter what they are. My guess is that a certain lobby was involved.

Sign me up for that lobby.

The guy is 103% douchebag but he should be allowed to voice his bullshit. Canada is not so free as you all think, hell I almost got put in jail for sittin on bench in front of the train station in Toronto watching a cop bust some guys balls for parking in front of the station.

I didn't even say shit just sat there waiting and he walks over to me and says "quit gawking start walking" and of course I said no at which point he laid into me hehe. Canada is a fuking communist nation.

I am surprised Toronto cops gave you such a hard time. I have lived in both nations and have found the police in the US more severe on average.

We do have limits on free speech up here, this is true. A few years ago they passed Hate crime legislation which limits free speech some what.

As far as communism goes, nada. We have a democratically elected Government that is close to rep by pop.

Yes I knew you were attempting to make a funny with the Communist comment

That's because we don't give the UN all our money!

Seriously, though. I understand wanting people to know history and how people suffered, but to lobby to have a guy kicked out of a country? Pretty disgusting. Some people really forget lessons of the past.

I fail to find where any "group" lobbied here. What I read was a presiding judge sick of the man, and the Crown not waiting for the ruling of a superior court and moving to deport the guy.

Perhaps you have a secret decoder ring?

It is no secret that the Canadian Jewish Congress lobbied to have Zundel removed. Bernie Farber the President of the CJC has been quite out spoken about it.

Of course it is okay for them to do this, apparantly. Seems that Canada agrees with it. Just kind of sad that is all.

Don't get me wrong, I see both sides of this; ultimately I see it as blurring the line of free speech a little bit more. When we censure one type, what's next?

To point at the Jewish community as the sole reason and only people set against allowing this scum bag a posh stay in Canada is more than short sighted however.

He was deported from the US for failing to keep an interview appointment with immigration authorities in 2003 ... not something an immigrant, married to a US citizen or not, wants to do in the states.

The man also has the honor of being recognized as the largest distributor of Nazi propaganda in the world.

So yes, it does suck that he's being deported for his views. It also sucks that when something like this happens some people point right to the Jews and ignores those in the educational community or their neighbor.

To me this is karma for Zundel. He loves the German people so much and he wanted the "truth" to be known so much ... that he left Germany and chose to hide behind the freedoms of Canada and the US.

In short ... fuck Zundel. Weep for your freedoms, but fuck Zundel ... the man that forced a line to be drawn in the sand.

I think Jews lobbying to have us conquer the Middle East is worse than Jews lobbying to have Nazis thrown out. With that said, he'd done some less than legal activities. If he hadn't, I doubt it would've gone through.

Jews and Big Oil, the Saudis, and many rich and ignorant old white men ... yes ... sad.

Please don't misinterpret my stance on free speech as sympathy for Zundel. The man is a cretin of the first order. If he was knifed in a back alley, you wouldn't see me shed any tears over it.

I weep for the loss of freedom and free speech, as you said, not for Zundel.

As I understand it, denying the holocaust is a crime in Germany. Since Zundel's site is accessible to German citizens they will be trying him for this crime.
