I could care less.

I can't think of a more worthless achievement.

Is anyone pumped about this??

To be the first to do anything is generally an achievement. I can't say I am 'pumped' up about it though.

If he makes it, he'll be the first to fly around the world, solo, non-stop and without refueling.

The only thing he is doing is the solo part. In 1986 a plane went around the world without stopping for fuel

I have the flu, so I'm home sick...

The guy on Headline News just called it "an important record".

I'm almost praying for a natural disaster so they an stop talking about it...

Yep. It's the flying solo that makes his flight unique. He's had to do it without rest, or relief.

It's hard to get pumped about someone flying around the Earth when we have people flying into space.

However, if the guy happens to be reading this and feels like a warm-down, I could use a trip to England. :)

Japan planning a manned Moon base is something I find much more exciting

Pfft, they can have the stupid Moon. George is taking us to Mars, and we all know the only reason George invades anything. :saint:

You're a little late. He should be landing in Kansas soon. However, if you want a ride to Kansas.....

I really don't get it.

How is this an important achievement?

They didn't exactly cure cancer...

Ah ha! So that is the reason for all of this "life on Mars" talk lately. Even the best rhetoric and semantics cannot justify liberating a lifeless planet.

We're talking about the star that used gamma rays on its own planets!!

I don't think anyone said it was an "important" achievement.. it's just an achievement. Someone stayed pretty much awake and flew an aircraft around the world without stopping or refueling.. by himself. I think that's all the record will say.

It's publicity.
