You are holding a helical rolaren-shod staff in your right hand.

Formed of three seperate fireleaf saplings coaxed together during growth, the stave remains otherwise remarkably natural, a few crimson eliptical leaves still curiously clinging near the head. The base is shod in rolaren to presumably protect it from wear. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph. A strange necrotic haze radiates from the staff.

You analyze your rolaren-shod staff and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:

SCRIPT DETAILS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The staff has a mechanical(combat) script which provides three basic types of functionality that can be broken down into the following categories:

AFFINITY - A special, custom 'bonding' like mechanism. Any given item can share an Affinity with only one person at a time. Affinity is gained by wielding the item and landing successful hits against like level foes.

BACKLASH - Potential negative effects, including immobilization, stuns, and nervous system damage, that can occur at random. As the wielder's Affinity with the item grows, the chance of a Backlash occurring are reduced.

FLARES - Off-the-Shelf, this item comes with a 'Muscle Memory' flare that, when triggered, will temporarily enhance the wielder's Combat Maneuver Ranks. The magnitude of the enhancement is based on the degree of Affinity shared with the wielder, while the frequency of the the flare is determined by the item's tier.

Unlocked items also possess the potential for an offensive 'Misery Unleashed' flare. This flare can ONLY be triggered when the the item is wielded against like level foes by someone with whom a COMPLETE Affinity is shared.

ITEM DETAILS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a tiered item that is currently Tier 4 of 4, which results in a 35% chance for the Muscle Memory flare to trigger when used against like level foes. It also has the following verbs available: CLENCH, TOUCH, STARE, LISTEN, and BERSERK.

The rolaren-shod staff does not share an Affinity with anyone! This will result in a bonus of 5 to Combat Maneuver Ranks being applied when the Muscle Memory flare is successfully triggered.

Using this item in combat against like level foes will increase the Affinity Level

ALTERATION GUIDELINES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This rolaren-shod staff may be freely altered by any merchant who is comfortable doing so, with the following caveat: The staff was formed of special saplings that were trained to grow around one another. In order to reflect this, it should always contain the word 'twisted', 'braided', 'helical', or something similiar in its TAP description.

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the rolaren-shod staff for you.

This staff might be one of my longest running projects. I've been slow boating it along. Originally a +22 t4 nerve staff, I bought this "blank slate" so I could easily get the t5 ensorcell and player enchant it to 10x myself. I was able to trade services at CCF where I got the partial enchant to take it up to a full +25.

Currently, it sits at a full 7x (+35), all ensorcells complete (T5), and of course the full T4 nerve script. NO AFFINITY. Only been held to enchant.

What makes this special is the lack of a flare. As it sits RIGHT now, this runestaff saves 70k BS by adding a 30k blank slate 6x affinity cert as opposed to a 100k enchant cert (also much harder to get ahold of when HESS opens). That's 300 or so dollars right there. However, you can STILL take it to 10x with a player mage. Buying the potions at 20k, 25k, and 30k respectively still saves another 225k over buying the 8,9,10x certs.

It's not even a difficult enchant either. Here's the read NOT with Kinj, but my second mage, level 91, only 1x emc, 1x miu, 1x AS, 100 wizard ranks (so, not an enchanter build):

You gesture at a helical rolaren-shod staff.
A muted glow instantly surrounds the rolaren-shod staff, flickering slightly, and fades a moment later.

Assuming a helical rolaren-shod staff can be tempered somehow...Unless you are horribly unlucky, you should have no trouble enchanting a helical rolaren-shod staff.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

That was standing in GC, not a workshop. That would be to go to 8x. The nerve scrip appears to have 0 effect. It's basically like enchanting any other t5 ensorcelled fireleaf runestaff.

MB: is 250 BO: 600 AND as a BO incentive I'll throw in a 10 pour Brom potion (8x) if the BO is met. At that point, for 30k BS you could have an 8x/6x/t5/t4 piece of awesomeness.

Oh yeah, you can also put whatever flare you want on it, it need not be acuity.

Clever strategy. Again I'll strongly bet enchant certs will be hard nerfed next DR so items that can be player-enchanted to 10x will rise in importance. Of course by taking that route you're making the alternative bet that acuity certs won't be nerfed so you can add them when done with the enchanting. But that seems the wiser bet to take.

I thought so too, especially since they are very popular with them being upgradeable to 10x as well and have been one of the few HESS consistencies.

Yet, I also believe despite that fact that acuity seems almost OP for the standard flare slot, it does have some drawback. In a way, it's a stripped down (lacking the other benefits like health regen, etc.) version of ensorcell - except it can ultimately go twice as high in numeric value for CS and AS too, so there IS that. Still, the redudancy seems boring, if nothing else. Leaving the slot free while the enchants were being done, for me, left open possibilities perhaps yet foreseen in the way of new flares.

I went ahead and lowered the MB and BO. I will not lower it further. If it does not move I'll pull it and keep working on it.

Well, never say never. I AM sorta lowering my price, but not here. I'm moving it to "flat price" section and adding an OBO. I'm just a little burned out on it all.

What makes you think this? Simu usually seems in favor of the opposite with enchanting.

Wyrom has said that HESS will be reworked so that upgrades will scale based on current item stats. Or he said essentially that:

http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/Paid%20Events:%20Adventures,%20Quests,%20and%20Sim uCoins/Duskruin%20Arena/view/10704

"Nothing in HESS is guaranteed to come back as is or for the same price. Current item properties will have more of an impact on certain certificates. We'll be discussing this internally and posting about it at a later time. I just want to make sure it's known before the end of the run."

That's as close to screaming from the rooftops that 100k BS to take god-tier weapons/armor from 9x to 10x is too cheap that I think you're going to get from Mario. And honestly, I sort of agree, despite the fact that I've taken full advantage of these to jack up items I own. I'd actually have no objections to removing these certs, as long as all items can be made wizard-enchantable. The slow pace of wizard enchanting would reduce the inflation of such items... they should be fucking rare.

There was a fairly long thread on the officials within the past few months about making enchanting 8x-10x more available for players. I don't remember what Simu specifically said in the thread, but I don't recall any positive responses from Estild about it.

What's more likely is they'll just jack up the cost in HESS and have it continue to scale up depending on what you're wanting to use it on and how stacked that item is.

Just my luck in that I'm late to the show of having uber gear and I need 1 enchant and ASG change on my armor and T-5 and 2X acuity on my sigil stick.and both are done, Oh well I guess I'll have to farm for a long time....
