More stupid Republican tricks. (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=7778185)

You do realize that bad words and explicit content are immoral, evil and dangerous even if you're specifically paying to see it right? Make sure you tell your Congressmen to support this measure!

I usually don't read anything you politically minded folks post, as it bores me to no end, but this one actually caught my attention.

It's pretty fucking stupid when the government decides it has to raise YOUR children. Don't shoot me, but I agree with Bush when he said "Just turn it off". I mean god damn. If you're offended by something on a cable channel, there are at least SIXTY GOD DAMNED OTHER CHANNELS.

I hate this country sometimes.

Let me make sure I read this right...they want to put decency restrictions even on premium channels like HBO? That's the whole reason a lot of people subscribe to those channels (and why people make shows for those channels) is because they're not bound by the bullshit rules you have to deal with on "normal" channels. People know what they're getting into (which really isn't shit to begin with) when they SIGN UP for HBO or whatever. If people are worried about what their kids might see, it's up to the parents to take that into consideration when they subscribe to it, not the fatass government. Fuck them and their butter soaked armpits.

For the government to try and tell them what they can and can't broadcast is unconstitutional and I doubt it will stick, if it somehow even passes.

I'm mixed on this:

As a parent.. stand up and take responsibility and stop having Congress legislate how you raise your kids.

As a Howard Stern fan.. love his show, but I certainly don't want my kids listening to him. I can't be around my kids 24/7.. I don't think some of his material belongs on free radio.

As a cable user, I can block any channel I want from my kids. Congress should stay the hell out of there.

I only skimmed the article. When I read the part that used masturbation and sex toys as an example of "indecent" content during prime time, it pissed me off to no end.

Since WHEN is masturbation indecent? Since when is exploring one's own body indecent? Since when is pleasure indecent? That just burns me up. I'm not saying we should force our kids to be exposed to it - that would be inappropriate too.

But to hide it and pretend it doesn't exist and tell our kids "Don't do that, it's BAD" is just as inappropriate and brings up sexually repressed kids. That's not only inappropriate, it's damned unhealthy.

I like the way it is now - monitor the kids' activities, and stop using the TV as a babysitter. Toss the tube out the window if that's what it takes, but let people who enjoy it to enjoy it. It hurts no one except twisted minds who have the notion that sex is indecent.

Hasn't Stern moved to Satelitte radio? I would like to see this measure pass just to pwn his self righteous ass.

I think that during the day there has to some restriction on what you can say on regular cable TV, as children maybe watching. Premium channels are another matter and should be exempt from such measures. I think on many TV's these days you can block certain channels so your kids can't watch them.

He moves there in 2006. Supreme Court will never pass such a measure. If they did, no one could watch pay per view porn, get the Playboy channel or for that matter, buy a Playboy magazine. Since Sirrus radio is a pay subscription, you should know what you are getting. If you find that it's too 'obscene' for your taste.. all you have to do is unsubscribe. No one is holding a gun to your head to pay them for their service.

Biggest problem with this country is that people simply cannot stand up and accept responsibility for their own selves. Fucking pathetic.
