Mythbusters, American Chopper, American Casino, Biker Build Off. No doubt Discovery Channel did something right, and cheers to them for bringing us solid TV to watch from being a no-name channel in the past.

I liked it better before when they showed animals in the wild, rather than animals in wife-beaters.

weather channel is better in my opinion.

Nothing better than Mother Nature pissed off at us and taking revenge for how we are treating the planet

Hahaha, I agree.

I liked the older stuff they used to show better.

Until a few months ago - I was paying $4 a month for one channel, DiscoveryHD (high definition). The vibrant colors, surround sound, and excellent shows were unbelieveable.

The cable company finally gave it to me for free with my HD plan.

I definitely preferred the old Discovery channel to the new. You know, when it dealt with science and nature and all that.

I couldn't give two shits about casinos or bikes.

I agree. I liked most of the original material.

Don't get me wrong, I like American Chopper, but the rest seem a bit brain dead to me. I tune into TLC and Speed for the cars. Overhauling > Monster Garage.

Liked the old one myself, (go figure). My favorite though has to be the History channel.

Speaking of HD..

W T F? When are the channels supposed to start transmitting in HD format? If the Superbowl wasn't on Fox this year, chances are I wouldn't have been able to watch it on HD. As it is now, Direct TV in my area transmits maybe 10 - 12 channels in HD... which look amazing. Now they just need to get the other 140 channels to do the same.

Isn't there some regulations coming due that forces local channels to broadcast in HD?

Soon. Feel lucky - my cable company only has:

ABC
NBC
CBS
FOX
ESPN
DiscoveryHD (not the same programs as Discovery)
HBO
Showtime
INHD (2 stations, show all kinds of old movies and concerts. Everything from The Cure to Conan the Barbarian)
UniversalHD (Shows lots of NBC Dramas)

However I noticed that even on the regular digital channels - some of the shows/movies are in surround sound. Which is always nice

Can I please take this opportunity to point out that American Casino is a complete sham? Half the shit they show on there is staged and never really happened, the other half is grossly exaggerated. I know this because I worked for that company for a little over a year.

They are currently being sued by someone who was labeled as being in the Griffin books (during the 21 tournament episode). He is not, in fact, in the Griffin books and apparently didn't appreciate the misinformation. I could list about five or six other things I've seen on that show that are flat-out lies. I'd probably have more, but Jake turned it off and doesn't let me watch it anymore after I started yelling at the TV.

I know "reality" TV is nudged, pushed, and even flat-out scripted at times, but I thought the Discovery Channel would have had more scruples than that. I do like Dog the Bounty Hunter, though.

I love the old discovery and the history channel. The random facts I learned that way!!

Older was far better. It feels redneckish to me now. I'm definatly all set.

This is one of my favorite channels as well. Though I have to agree with the general sentiment that the older format was much better.
