I can't wait to see what anti-cheat they implement.

There won't be an anti-cheat.

heard this game was incredibly hard. like makes dark souls look like pong hard.

What I can see, the game is tighter with its counter attack windows but once you begin to accumulate spells/skills things become easier. Also, grappling hook.

As far as I know, there isn't an online component. Means shit is going to be real hard. No grinding for levels, and no summoning people to beat it for you. I think there might be NPC help for bosses, but I think they can die and then that's it.

On the plus side bosses will be balanced for only one player.

Sekiro looks more like a successor to Ninja Gaiden than Soulsborne. Which is a good thing in my book, but kinda cements the fact that it's gonna be tough.

But hey, at least it'll have a pause button.

I'm worried about the mechanic where NPCs can't give quests and such due to you dying too much. I hate missing content. There's ways to reverse the curse, but it's not infinite.

Could be concerning, yeah. At the same time, From Soft might see that as an incentive for playing a New Game +, assuming it's in this game. I know I missed an awful lot on my first blind playthrough of Dark Souls. (The painting world, saving Solaire, etc.)

I don't think the game is for me. I beat Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, and DS1-3 but this game's emphasis on stealth and parrying is two things I suck at to a major degree. You also cannot grind to any significant extent, so you can't level the playing field in that regard. I think this game will definitely be up some people's alley, but not mine. I wish you all luck, you're going to need it.

Like 5 enemies in (about 43 minutes total playtime). I instantly saw what was going to be required of me and noped the fuck out. A friend gifted me the game and I didn't want to go over 2 hours so he could get his return. $60 bucks is a lot of cash for a game there is very little chance i'll ever play. It would be bad for my health to attempt to beat this game.

I'm maybe a little further than you, I guess. Did you escape the castle and make it to the first hub?

The parrying feels a little tighter here. I was always terrible at Dark Souls parrying so I mostly used larger shields and weapons, but here it's mostly do-able, though I'm sure the difficulty hasn't been ratcheted up yet. Getting ganged up on is a death sentence though, maybe moreso than DS. So far the stealth and multilevel traversing are interesting. To each their own though.

eta: after the first two story trophies the completion rate drops from 92% to like 15%, lol.

There's a way to activate a higher level of difficulty early on if you're interested, but I don't want to give spoilers in case you want to find it yourself. Think Dark Souls 2 Covenant of Champions.

You're definitely further than me. I had troubleshooting issues with HDR when I first started. Played until I got to the first NPC, got killed by the guard when I fucked up a stealth attack. Came back and cleared out those guys and made it to the first miniboss. Got him to about 1/3 health and died. Called it there.

I never parry in Soulsborne games. It made Bloodborne easily the hardest out of all the games, but you could still level up and stock up on healing items. You could even summon help, though I did beat it with a no summon run. None of that will be an option in Sekiro. I wouldn't even classify it as a Soulsborne title. Just isn't for me.

Teveriel
03-22-2019, 11:28 PM
I feel like people are overstating the difficulty a bit. I wouldn't classify it as a Souls game either, but one thing it does have in common are the checkpoints. And idols, so far, are very frequent. The combat is challenging, I agree, but when you do die, you probably won't have to travel very far to get back to where you were. It's possible that things ramp up there later on, but I think it's overall more forgiving than I was expecting.

Two major (read: achievement/trophy) bosses in. The first boss was fairly easy once I figured out how to stop a certain ridiculous move. The second was a real test, and I'm finding out that a lot of people are coming across that one before the other one. I might have ragequit, too, if I had taken that route first. Yikes.

I stopped being a bitch and picked the game up again. I doubt i'll ever beat it looking at some of the later bosses, but I should at least try. So far i'm grinding out ninja and prosthetic skills, and exploring as far as I can without engaging any major bosses. I have firecrackers, flame barrel, axe, and shurikan. I think I can get to a gourde seed or two before facing a major boss. I'll target all the minibosses I can and try to get a health upgrade or 4 before tackling some of the more notorious ones, but there is no sense in throwing away hours until I have all applicable advantages.

Ignoring skill trees in a game like this makes no sense. I'm not a blindfolded, no hit, no upgrade run kinda guy. I want to clear any way I can short of using a cheat engine.

I have 1 gourd upgrade along with the skill that gives you more health on drinking it. Also grabbed both stealth upgrades, and a few other random ones. I'd like the Mirikiri damage boost, but I think that'd take quite a while to unlock. Nothing else left but to fight the Ogre, The Drunkard, or (if I can get past the ogre without fighting him) those other minibosses in the castle.

Managed to kill the Shinobi hunter and the Longswordsman. Noped out of the Jozuo and Horse General fights, but have the save points right before them. Have the key from *** and ran past that terrifying headless fuck to get to the bell. Didn't ring it yet, though. Will save that for grinding for components. I'll probably try the horse boss first, Killing Jozuo only unlocks Butterfly Lady, and honestly fuck her. I'll do her once I have a few more health upgrades and the unblockable shuriken.

I cheesed that purple robed guy so bad. Just ran in circles, grabbed the raven feather prosthetic, dropped aggro and knifed him in the back. He was all over the fucking place.

He reeeeeally hates it when you makiri counter his kick (the thrusting one). My roommate just ran into the temple, took the feather, fled the scene, and then came back and killed him with the prosthetic he was guarding.

Beat Horse boss, he wasn't too bad at all. That bull is going to be a fucking problem, though. Fighting the camera just as much as you are him.

I agree with this review 100%. You INSTANTLY see how fucked you are. I am not an above average skill gamer, just decent. There's just no way I have the patience for what Sekiro is going to ask of me.

"Thus you are left facing enormously challenging enemies, losing XP and currency (almost) every time you die, unable to summon help or grind to improve stats (though you can to earn more skills . . .) carving your way through a demonic version of Sengoku Japan. All you have is your skill and your wits.

It's a sublime distillation of everything that makes the Souls games so amazing, but it truly is more challenging than any of those games by a very long mile. I am not exaggerating here. I think Sekiro may be one of the very best games ever made, but it is not going to be for everyone. I still recommend that everyone gives it a shot. It takes patience but it's just such a well-crafted action game, I've never played anything quite like it."

Yeah, fuck that. I literally blew through three controllers on DS3... brilliant game but it did bad things to my mental state. I think I'll try the new Yoshi game on Switch instead...

Where is everyone at in their playthrough? I'm amazed at how far and wide you can explore without taking on anything but minibosses aside from Gyoubu (Horse Boss). I have 8 gourd uses, 4 prayer necklaces and 3 beads towards a 5th and all the esoteric tomes (except a story locked one I don't want to spoil). I think I still have 1 or 2 more full areas I can mess around in as well before I have to take out another actual boss.

WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GRIND??

I'm at 9 gourd uses now. Fighting Ginichiro. It's either him or a certain monk and meh. Got him down 1 life on my first try. He seems doable, but it's going to be a long slog.

I want to go for the "easy" ending, but that kid is making it rough. He seems like a good little guy.

So I think I might be close to the end..? Killed the monk and the mini-boss before her on the first try. It feels like a lot of the bosses and mini-bosses have boiled down to deflecting long strings of attacks and holding block to restore posture during any lulls so you can do the same thing again. I think that's why the game has felt just a little bit easier after throwing myself at Gini-boy more than half a dozen times; he teaches you all of that by the time you bring him down.

Still, this is From so I'm sure a wrench is about to be thrown into the works somehow. :P
