How useful is charge? I’ve been dumping my cman points into the passive defensive cmans in my 20s because they seem like obvious not-wrong choices, but I’m curious to know if it’s worth investing points into charge early or at all.

Are you using trip or something else to knock things over? Charge is fun, but it's mostly personal preference imo. My bard is only mid-40s so I can't comment about the experience at cap.

I've used charge with my bard. In my opinion it's fantastic, especially when using a sonic lance.

I think the biggest drawback to charge was the 7s RT (5-4s depending on Tonis & Air Lore) while in offensive and has a chance to miss. However, when it doesn't miss - you can get some fantastic results.
