Can anyone please enlighten me on how Iron Skin (1202) works for non-native casters (wizard)?
1. When casting iron skin, do the properties of the robes you are wearing carry over? That is to say, if my robes are 7x HCP, T5 ensorcelled with acid flares, at the base spell would I now be considered wearing full leathers that are 7x HCP, T5 ensorcelled with acid flares?
2. With 100 ranks in Transformation Lore, I believe that robes would become cuirbouilli leathers. Would I be considered in cuirbouilli leathers for defensive purposes (crit divisor, CVA), but have the action penalty and spell hindrance of robes?
If you have the AP and hindrance of robes but all of the protection of cuirbouilli leather, this seems to be pretty powerful. Granted it's no small investment at 4000 PTPs for those Transformation Lore ranks. But I'm at the point where nothing else seems all that appealing to train in. I don't currently have robes, but by the time I get those 4000 PTPs I should have some sweet robes.

1. Yes, the padding, ensorcellment, etc. all carry over.
2. The lore bonus applies to AvD, DF, and crit divisor, but not CvA.
You keep the (lack of) action penalty and hindrance from the robes.

I would assume yes for 1, since monks love padded robes.
For 2, if I'm reading the wiki right, if you have 105 lore ranks you'll be in ASG 6, which is full leather.

The spell itself grants an ASG bonus.. the lore is counted on top of that.. with that being said... I think the lore bonus counts either half or not at all unless the spell is self knowledge.
Pretty sure you have robe hindrance also.. it's been awhile but if I remember right my monk had aug chain level asg and I dont recall any issues casting minor spirit spells.

Oh yeah. Forgot all about that part. I have failed. :(

The biggest downside to 1202 is that it can be dispelled. Having your armor class dispelled (you'll still have the same DS and padding, but lose the AsG and crit divisor benefits) is a bit sad and a lot of capped hunting areas have critters who dispel (or the area can flat out remove outside spells).
I'd love to take advantage of this spell as a Sorcerer with scroll infusion, but then I'd have to maintain high-end robes and high-end leathers to use in different hunting areas...

Answer to #1:
(pulled from the gswiki - https://gswiki.play.net/Category:Lores )
When casting a spell from a non-native spell circle (using a scroll, magic item, or other means), the caster's lore training may only be partially effective depending on the type of circle:
Minor Spiritual, Minor Elemental, and Minor Mental retain full lore effectiveness
Major Spiritual and Major Elemental count only half the caster's lore training
Professional spell circles count only one-third of the caster's lore training
---------------------------------------------
Seems like any minor circle, if I'm reading it correctly, grants the caster (native or non-native) full use of their known lore ranks. So if you have 50 ranks of ML:Transformation, regardless of what profession you are, casting any spell from a minor circle will grant you the full use of those 50 lore ranks.
That should mean.....
When wearing robes, the initial cast (without any ML:T) grants you Full Leather (AsG 6)base.
At 5 ranks of ML:T the AsG would be 7 (Base; full leather (6) + 1 AsG for 5 ranks ML:T) to give you Reinforced Leather coverage.
At 75 ranks of ML:T the AsG would be 11 (Base; full leather (6) + 5 AsG for 75 ranks ML:T) to give you Studded Leather coverage.
Is it correct that a capped monk with lore ranks enchanced to 151 (lol) can at best achieve ASG 18?

Thanks to all for the quick responses. I tend to underestimate how dedicated we are to this game. We may be a small community, but damn do we know our Gemstone!
I haven't gotten into training non-native lores, and I've always assumed everything that wasn't native would be halved. So if you get the benefit of all ranks, getting 105 ranks with the aid of enhancives would give you brig coverage. I'm liking this more and more.
Given I'm currently in fulls, for downside I think we've established:
- Worse CVA
- 1202 can be dispelled
Is encumbrance also a slight issue, assuming I'm in max light fulls now? I believe we get some "free" carrying capacity when the armor we are wearing is lower than the base for that armor type, so do we get slightly more carrying capacity from max light fulls versus max light robes?
