So, does anyone care about these anymore?

Did anyone ever?

No.

No.

It's a gigantic popularity contest with a political spin that has very little to do with good movies.

I kind of like them. I don't actually watch the award show. I do go through the list of nominees and winners though. It's a nice kind of tool to find out about movies you might not have otherwise heard about. I don't use TV, and streaming services are very limited in who and what they advertise. The lists from the award shows let you pick up on some of the smaller budget films that don't get wide releases and such.

IMDB's great for it too going actor to actor. Lots of people love Sam Rockwell, for example, but have never seen Choke or Don Verdean. And both of those movies are awesome. Like Don Verdean? Bet you didn't see What We Do In The Shadows which also starred Jemaine Clement, and that's truly your loss. Academy awards you get more of the mainstream stuff that everybody knows about, but you can still find some diamonds in the rough.

Unfortunately a lot of people care. It's about as dumb as the Super Bowl.
