Right there...Warden says there is a bug with players ambushing players. People with 10 levels and no ambushing ranks are pushing capped players to offensive.

I say, even if they fix the ambush ranks vs level thing, its not good enough. I want to see the players perception offset the ambushing ranks of the ambusher, as well as room modifiers (including whats underfoot (gravel, or sound dampening snow?), cover (forest with trees? or broad street), time of day (dark night, broad day, full moon) and maybe some other stuff.

EDIT: Before anyone gets up in arms I am nerfing them...I support you should be able to get a pretty significant jump on characters with no perception, in the forest, on a dark night. Yeah, forced to full offensive, practically instakill. Same with critters. I DON'T think you should be able to hide and turn my head into spray in broad daylight sitting on the dais with my back against a stone wall and people sitting on either side of me....

OMG Rogues rock dont they?!? ;)

I agree with your assessment but for one thing. Offensive for some can be a pretty high number, as in my capped empath having an offensive DS of 445 providing his spells are up, he's standing up, and his runestaff is out and thats just with an 8:1 magical ratio, which will soon be 10:1 thus making it even higher.

Sitting around with no spells and not being prepared, I'd think any one old enough to swing a blade would be old enough to leap from hiding and pull a slingblade (mmmmhmmmm) on someone unprepared, unarmed, and sitting down.

Realistic - sort of if you consider the scenarios. Abused? Of course it is, but as I learned the hard way, my characters almost never rest without their runestaff out and a minimum of spells onboard unless they're at a table.

And this is why younger rogues always cut through my fucking stance. I was like, "I'm in defensive now I live!" except it didn't make a difference and I got badly injured (but did not die because 50% redux + plate = I win).

Regardless, it was annoying.

It is a bug that has cost me several times. Props to Moredin and Mekthros for pointing it out and getting the ball rolling for fixes.

I'm pretty sure Aone could've hit that at level 40.

Definately should be able to hit that by 40 I'd think.

One question that does come to mind is how dodging comes into play. I remember attempting to ambush someone 20 trainings my senior and missing like a blindfolded school girl on back to back attempts from hiding. This was against someone that was a square so I'm assuming they were invested in dodge to some degree.

Maybe the verb SENSE could work for rogues in a way that they assess the area and try to find out how well they would be able to ambush someone/something. Factors like time of day, and overall environment would be assessed with the SENSE verb.

Just an idea.

I really like that Sense idea. I know my ideas ain't popular, but I posted another post on the play.net boards. I came to the middleground ambush mechanics should be left alone, but hiding mechanics tweaked a bit.
