Here's a clip of him before getting banned. Note how there was nothing in his library in the first place:

Also, NDA violations are serious business. He could potentially be in the hole for a lot more depending on what was in the contract, though I doubt EA would go that route due to bad PR.

It wasn't anything particularly special but the demo was stripped to its most playable form and only to that point. According to some observations. The technical issues weren't promising, since the game is 'always on'. All that and I still want it for the kit bashing and sheer mech customization available.
I dunno. Weird priorities I guess.

Game was alright. Will see how stable it is this coming weekend after they have a chance to tweak the servers. Performance was good with newest Nvidia drivers, borderless windowed and running at 3440x1440.
Game loop is very much a mix of Destiny and Diablo. Decent range of weapons and modifications, item bonuses seem a bit off or just displaying incorrectly - Had a bunch of items that listed 0% increase to <insert bonus>.
The different weapons and abilities could be expanded, but may currently be limited for the demo - good amount of options when it comes to switching up abilities on the colossus at least.
End game looks like its going to be mixing up the right team with complimenting status effects and combos, combined with picking and choosing how you enter the fight. Graphics about what I expected, few graphical glitches, mostly just connectivity issues. Not overly worried about the issues I ran into during the VIP demo - It didn't seem like anything that can't be resolved quickly. Hopefully they expand what is available in the demo.

How's the combat? Is the shooting fun? Are enemies bullet sponges or is there a fast time to kill? Is there a list of weapons yet? I just want a marksman rifle that's full auto. Destiny had a couple of those and they were really fun to use.

I've never played Mass Effect, but everyone I played Anthem with said it played very similar to the most recent mass effect? I found it enjoyable for the most part. There was a full auto marksman's rifle that was usable by any javelin.
There was some bullet sponge enemies, but they were the higher rarity ones so it wasn't terrible. Again, you could wipe things out with coordinated combos with a good group pretty quick. You also can't just go stand in the open and take a bunch of shots either, you'll be downed really quickly.

Bioware already fixed one of the more annoying parts of the demo, which was how slow you move around in the town. You'll be able to sprint in the full game, thank god.
Astray
01-30-2019, 11:51 AM
The demo was confirmed to be old. The Capture Event in Japan basically confirmed a lot of suspicions on the demo and had way more fixes. No PvP, which feels weird but okay. You can't buy materials with cash so no pay to progress faster. Bioware caught a bit of flak for some pricing but they confirmed that was just testing and is subject to going down in cost.
The best part is that Masterwork and Legendary parts/weapons/etc are all game changers.

It's not bad. A little clunky in a few areas but those are addressed in the full game. The hub feels weird, maybe because it's not the 'full' thing yet but it's busy. I was walking past an NPC and he bumped into another NPC and there was an animation for it. Whoa, bro.
The weapons feel good. My only complaint is the flying feels awkward on a controller and could take some practice.
Enemies are pretty legit. I nearly died because they combo'd me. You aren't a walking monstrosity, your first suit gets beat up pretty quick but can still hold its own in a fire fight.

What I liked:
Graphics
lighting effects
sound effects
flying
mech customizination
What I didn't like:
Tarsis - seemed like an empty shell of a ghost town. Shenmue did it best, with making all the NPCs have their own set routine, which made it seem like a real town. Tarsis is just candy coated sawdust.
The guns - they all looked very similar for the most part and I couldn't tell how interesting the loot would be in the real game because the stats shown were bugged. Also there's no customization for the weapons like The Division, which is pretty dumb.
Not being able to switch your gun to your other hand. Again, this should have been a no brainer.
Flying is fun but the overheat mechanism is very tedious. Either extend it by 100% or just take it out altogether IMO.

How about dialogue choices? Do any of those options result in something different triggering or are they too just purely cosmetic?
And I noticed components had a level lock on them but does leveling up increase your stats? Is there a skills tree? This all seems very simplistic for a Bioware game.
Astray
02-06-2019, 04:17 PM
I have no idea about the dialogue.
Leveling up, not too sure on but it feels like a no. No skill tree far as I can tell. Basically, you're gonna be using your Support Gear to define what your unit excels at (dumping big damage, like the colossus). You can switch out what your weapon skills do and that'll chance them completely. I was using a beam cutter, homing grenades, and a HE rocket on my Ranger.
I also found this (https://www.polygon.com/anthem-guide/2019/2/1/18205597/masterworks-legendaries-exotics-list#y4duxY). Not a whole lot of info but holy shit at just what was found.
Emblem of Destruction: Ultimate multi-kills of five or more increases Ultimate recharge rate by 3,300 percent
For a Colossus? You are literally an AoE wipe with your Ultimate. The only time I didn't nuke 5+ is when there weren't any more and/or the boss was the only target I could get at.

I also saw that list of masterwork components and they sound pretty slick. The interceptor one that reloads your weapons also gives them a flat 25% increase to damage.

I'm not opposed to scaling gear and I like how outright broken something like a Masterwork component is. That's what I want and it's what I think when I hear 'Masterwork'. Reminds me of WH40k when they talk about Legendary/Masterwork things used in battle. Shit is supposed to be bananas.

I don't know how much truth there is to this but supposedly one of the data miners found something regarding a third weapon slot that is soley for melee weapons. Would make sense since some of the trailers show mechs wielding swords.
Astray

That's actually a dev that blew that up and confirmed that a weapon slot was available after a certain point in the game.

There was a loot exploit that people at endgame could do to farm top tier loot, but was already patched out. Good that there isn't any PvP as I imagine there is a good number of people now completely kitted out in the best loot.

Maybe, but the game is shit. The combat is good but it needed at least 6-12 months more development. I'm really hoping these shit tier publishers learn from Apex Legends and go back to the glory days of games. You know... when games released and were actually fully playable.

Looks like another epic bomb.

I don't think it'll bomb but I greatly doubt that the game is going to be as wildly successful as EA 'predicts'. They are banking a lot on Anthem being a massive seller and I can comfortably say it won't be.
Again, I'm not in it because I'm impressed with the product. I'm into it because of the power armor fanboy in me gets to customize the fuck out of power armor.

I think its success hinges on how much of the teenage demographic they can pull. They've got heavy competition what with all the Destinies and Divisions and Warframes and whatever-the-fucks. the EA brand alone is enough to put older gamers off and onto one of the many other similar options, but if they can capture the younger demographic, they have a shot at some market share.
Edit to add: I think EA would benefit at this point from dropping the EA brand an incorporating another company from which to publish. Their name is synonymous with quality games still, but it's also synonymous for good games completely buried with both micro and macro transactions that crush the gameplay. I even get annoyed playing Madden 19 single player because it tries to push their card packs for online on me at every single turn. And absolutely fuck MLB: The Show's wonderful system of leveling up your single player character's stats with fucking microtransaction coins.

Been playing for a while and I feel that the gameplay is solid. I don't have any real interest in the story but some moments are pretty great. I personally feel like the menacing forces are menacing without being stupidly overt about it. Combos are satisfying as all fuck and don't even get me started on the customization. The multiplayer lobby is super well designed.
That being said, I do have some issues. Fucking load times are still pretty brutal, especially if it's a story mission. Outside feels both hectic as fuck and barren. Which says absolutely nothing about the immersion shattering pop-ins and bugs in the fort. Speaking of which, the fort feels lifeless. It's almost creepy to hear an NPC conversation in the silence.

Fort Tarsis absolutely puzzles me. It's like Bioware outsourced that part of the game to someone else.
Astray
02-23-2019, 08:17 PM
Undoubtedly, the layout to Fort Tarsis is fucking dumb. Almost like they wanted to combine the open world aspect with a HUB world. I've been fiddling in Freeplay and world events are plentiful enough to easily farm loot. Coins are also stupid easy to come by. I've looted some chests that are 800-3,000. Some people are getting tens of thousands.

They 'fixed' the loot drop rates and now the game is pretty rough. Pre patch, I was getting a healthy amount of variety in the gear and now it's just a trickle.

It's not bricking consoles, just hard crashes. Bricking is where a console is fucked permanently.
Still, gotta love these games that release with game-ending bugs even after an open "beta" where the bug was first reported.

Yeah. I mean, I'm not surprised by it, seems like a typical canned corporate response when responding to something like that. If you had asked me a year or two ago if I'd be upset about Bioware shutting down I'd probably say yes. Now I'm thinking it's a good thing. EA needs to die as well.

The funny thing is Anthem seems to have been almost entirely Bioware's fault. I knew that demo at E3 was mostly bullshot and pre-renders, but I never imagined they would try to pass off a game that didn't even have any missions finished yet. Even if Bioware isn't taken behind the woodshed in the near future, they've irreparably damaged their brand.

If you read Jason's article, it is entirely Bioware managements fault. The same thing came out about Andromeda too though, but we're back here again. Nothing is going to change unless they take the upper tier and start crucifying them. The fact that it's gotten so bad that people are literally sobbing in bathrooms is nuts. It's absolutely nuts.

I fault EA a little bit for prioritizing Frostbite engineer access to Madden and Fifa, but whaddayagonnado. Most of Bioware's big names have left so it's a shell of a company anyway.

Nope, that was a choice from Bioware. They liked the rendering and it was multiplayer enabled. They had the option to completely start from scratch and create an engine.
