What is that going to accomplish? Do you really believe that Simutronics is somehow against the sale of characters?
I don't.

It's just against policy. But PB is right. Its $15 extra for them.

I am not being a smartass here (yeah really), but could someone who has access to the game or website post the Policy reference which forbids it? I don't recall ever seeing it since I never dealt with a situation like that.

GemStone IV Player Policy: Transferring Characters
Under no circumstances will Simutronics transfer an existing character from one online service to a different service. If you decide to switch online services, you will have to either roll up a new character from the new service, or continue to use the old service to play your old character.
Even within the same service, characters generally cannot be transferred from one account to another, except in certain specific situations. For example, if a user moves, he or she may require a new account, which would require the transferring of the player's character from the old account to the new one.
To request the transfer of your character from one account to another, use the GemStone IV Feedback option. All requests to transfer a character to another account must be approved by the management of that particular service.

Too funny. I wonder if anyone will bid 200 on an account held by a known fucktard with 3 horribly named characters and only 800k between the 3?

Sorry Bob, you got me. It must be that youthful exuberance of yours.

In spite of the infamous Policy 9, does anybody really believe Simutronics gives a whit if Coinner sells his character to some other idiot? :?:

The policy does seem a little open-ended to me. It doesnt specify whether or not they disallow transfers in regards to a character sell. Yep. They want the money.

Of course that policy was instated during the proprietary years when each sign on could have 1 character. Players changing from one proprietary to another (Genie, AOL, CS, Prodigy) always wanted to take characters with them. The offer hoppers.

I don't read anything in that policy that forbids character transfers... more that they have to approve then via feedback.

read: paying them $15.
Some of their staff may not like characters being sold, but Simu as a whole does zip to stop it.

I don't think the whole "Its an old rule" holds water, Tsa. We're well past the prime of GS character selling, like back in the day when they'd go for tens of thousands of dollars, or even when GM accounts were sold, which is about within time frame that you mentioned.

I'm not arguing that since it's old it doesn't matter. I'm just pointing out when and why the policy was written. It isn't like Simu will ever enforce it so long as there's a buck to be made.

They'd be stupid to enforce it at this point. They'd lose a ton of money in transfer fees.

A while ago I went to DragonCon where are representative of Simutronics was there promoting DR and GS...she was actually bragging about the going rate for GS characters on ebay.

<<They'd be stupid to enforce it at this point. They'd lose a ton of money in transfer fees.>>
They'd lose a very negligible amount of money. It's like the people who quit and have to make it public how much their subscription cost is.
"I HOPE SIMU ENJOYS LOSING $50 A MONTH!!!!!!!!"
Let's not forget the thousands of accounts being paid for without it.

Depends on the class, a capped wizard would bring a lot more than $400. Even still, the real money is in the silver and items.

I don't see Simu making changes to the transfer policies, because it makes so much money.
I just wanted to consolidate to one account, and it would cost me 15 dollars each character to get them to my other account, which would be 45 dollars..it's just money hungry. There's no need to do that..I mean 5 bucks I could see, but 15?? Ridiculous.
