That aftermath was pretty rough. I didn't follow any of the usual hype but what the shit lead up to all that? That was nuts.

Conor and his team went after Khabib's family and religion leading up to the fight and Khabib took personal exception to it. So because of that and the bus attack, Khabib's team felt sleighted and went after Conor's people after the fight.

It was a great freakin' fight, and Khabib's team of course was in the wrong. But there's a part of me that said even while it was going on that Conor earned whatever came his way.

Guessing because McGregor and some other people attacked the bus Nurmagomedov was on earlier in the year.

I remember that. Really stupid, should have resulted in more than what they did. Also, they are already talking about a rematch.

Of course they're already talking about a rematch. They knew there would be a rematch long before the PPV aired. It was pretty clear this was gonna be one of the biggest sellers of all time. Now they're just crossing their fingers and praying that Conor wins the rematch so they can make it three.

And we'll all buy all three PPVs, because of course we will. It'll be awesome.

Took about three months to sort out all the "OMG Will Conor go to jail?!" stuff from the bus attack. Probably take about the same amount of time to sort out the extracurriculars here, but there'll be a rematch soon after I'm sure.

In addition...

After the 2nd round bell, McGregor corner man/jitsu coach calls Khabib a "dirty Muslim rat", which prompted the fence jump after the fight's completion.

McGregor and his cornerman swung first in both instances.

I'm not so sure. I think the next set of fights will be

Khabib vs. Tony Ferguson
Connor vs. Aldo 2

They need some time to elapse to build something for mid-2019 after the Cormier vs. Brock fight.

Yes, please. This is the dream match up.

After the performance Ferguson put in the other night I can definitely see that, but I think the dollars and cents of it will put Conor/Khabib 2 ahead of it. Khabib/Ferguson won't draw as many buys, so what happens if Khabib loses? That lowers the marketability of Conor/Khabib 2 if it's not for a belt.

Where the money goes, so do the decisions. But yeah, I'd love to see either one of them.

UFC doing quite literally nothing to Conor after the bus attack pretty much set the stage for this type of insanity. If you're a big enough star and make UFC enough money you can do whatever you want. Conor stuck to his usual smack talk and upped the ante by going religion/family, Khabib saw that nothing happened to Conor after the bus thing and figured why not beat up Conor's entire camp after utterly decimating him in the octagon. Khabib is just a scary dude, both in and out of the octagon. Aside from pure $ Conor has absolutely no business getting a rematch. He got used like a training dummy in there.

Oh, I didn't know it happened during the fight too. Yeah I woulda jumped over the cage too probably. And promptly broken both ankles on landing and then crawled angrily towards the guy who would've probably kicked me in the head and put my out of my misery. I have weak ankles. But I digress.

Building a fight is one thing, even if what you're saying is in poor taste. During the fight makes you Ben Chapman, and that guy didn't exactly land on the right side of history.

Hey, at least you gotta admit it's better to take a swing at the guy shouting slurs at you from the crowd than it is to cry about it on twitter.

True. I don't keep up with UFC and I just thought all this chaos was about more than people calling each other names.

Well, Conor did put a guard rail through a bus window and injure a few people, but yeah other than that it's about words.

That stuff reminded me of the shit wrestlers would do for ratings. Just what the fuck are you doing? You're a champion, dude.

They definitely take a lot of their marketing cues from the WWE. The whole scripted bit with Brock and Cormier after his fight in 226 was cringeworthy. I think they're still looking for a balance between "sells more tickets" and "turns the whole thing into a joke". They'll get it eventually.

I've been watching through the back catalog now that I have fight pass (got it to stream this PPV). I'm up to fights in about UFC 150 and they weren't doing anything like the kind of WWE showmanship stuff they do now at that point, and that wasn't that long ago. And I will say that the whole deal is a little less exciting as a result. But like I said, they've gotta find that balance of entertainment and reality still.

Edit to add: and hey, the shit wrestlers do for ratings is just theater mimicking the things boxers do for ratings, so it really does all kind of belong together.

I miss old UFC when they had no weight classes and hardly any rules and all that bullshit with Tank Abbot flooring some 600 lb samoan fucker in about 20 seconds and then getting wrecked by Gracie in the final match.

I think that was UFC 2 maybe.

Is that the one where he hit him so hard he fell backwards through the gate and completely out of the octagon, breaking the entrance?

I remember a bunch of the old pre(?) UFC stuff and just seeing people drive their elbows into someones face until they were convulsing. Slams on the head and neck. Crazy stuff.

You guys should consider getting Fight pass. It's $10 a month and it has all of Pride and whatever other organizations UFC bought over the years, plus all of the old UFCs. Edit to add: Plus you can break it down by fighter. They have all the full events streamed, but also all of the individual fights. I'm working my way through Anderson Silva currently, from Pride all the way through his UFC stuff.

I don't think so. I remember him being flat on his back and having convulsions though. It was either UFC 1 or 2.

The belt is no longer needed for Khabib vs. Connor 2. Just like it isn't needed for Connor vs. Diaz 3.

No one outside of Lesnar vs. Jones/Cormier is going to draw what Connor can. I don't think GSP/Spider pulls as much as either at this point.

Rumblings have begun for Cormier vs. Lewis in November. If that fight happens, Cormier will get stripped of the LHW belt to go to Jones/Gus in December. Then Lesnar vs. Cormier in March-ish.

You will need a July headliner as the UFC is doing these days. If both Connor and Khabib win their next fights, you can consider the rematch for International Fight Week. Otherwise, pray Cormier puts off retirement for DC vs. Jones 3.

Doesn't DC want Jones like, right now?

Although at this point DC needs Jones* more than the other way around.

Stunseed

I believe his original plan was to fight twice before he turns 40 this spring. He wanted Lesnar first, then Jones. Lesnar won't clear USADA until Jan 2019 I think, which means he would potentially miss the second fight. By fighting now, he ensures he clears any medical suspensions ( I do not see Lewis as much of a threat outside of a knockout ) for Lesnar.

Jones does not want to fight DC, allegedly. I think that's bullshit in its finest form, as much as DC can't shake Jones, Jones will always have the specter of DC unless it gets done.

DC vs. Lewis on 03NOV18 for the heavyweight title.

DC vs. Lewis should be..I dunno. Interesting I guess, but I don't think Lewis is gonna do terribly well against a wrestler unless he gets that one lucky hail mary shot in early. He's gassed almost instantly, has back problems, and is generally pretty damn out of shape for a fighter. You put him on his back and he's gonna stay there until being submitted in a minute or two. Gotta get the mileage out of that sound byte of his though. They were even playing it this morning when I drove to work.

4 days suspensions on both sides for both these dudes.

Oct. 24th, both of them could be suspended indefinitely, pending investigation results. Lots of threats to quit lately. Also, Khabib forfeited his purse.
