Alright...

I'm back.

I've moved, and I've got a job. A good one too. It happened faster than I thought, so I figured I could devote a portion of my wasted time to posting here again. Speaking of unproductive people...

I just got back from Mexico. Nothing like a Mexican vacation to make you miss the US! I did catch 2 striped marlin while deep sea fishing though. 140 and 145 pounds. Just awesome...

I have to run to the bar. Hope you're all doing well.

Do you get to keep those fish or does the captain of the boat? We set up a (spur-of-the-moment) deep-sea fishing while in Hawaii and the captain said whatever was caught was not ours to keep.

Seemed fucked up to me but damn that's a LOT of fish.

It depends on the fish that you are going for.

Marlin are considered a sport fish, and really aren't for eating. If I wanted to keep it, it would have cost me a little over $1,000 between the taxidermist and shipping. The fish was far too pretty to kill though...

Mako and Hammerhead sharks are thrown back as well unless you decide to have them mounted.

Now, if you pull up fish that are good for eating, like dolphin, swordfish, or tuna, then they don't get released. The restaurants buy them fresh. The captain should give you a cut of the meat can be cooked up at certain restaurants. It's pretty satisfying to eat something that you've caught.

I go to Hawaii in a month or so, so please tell me how it went. I plan on fishing there. Are you fishing for a half day or a full day? This usually determines what you fish for.

Have you ever been fishing before?

The ocean can get rough, so Dramamine or Bonine can help. It's no fund to spend the whole day donating your guts to the ocean due to sea sickness...

Also, bring sunscreen. And, if you can afford it, spring for a pair of polarized sunglasses. They let you see into the water so you can see the fish on the surface. Very cool.
