Within the last month I moved from the Operations (people that do the work) to the Product Support group (people that support the first group).

My group consists of mainly programmers, testers, and database administrators.

So needless to say, being a cracker, I'm in the minority.

I don't eat seafood. I don't eat chinese food.

What people are bringing today:

Asian Noodles
Asian Noodles w/ Shrimp
Salmon
Vegetable Platter (I also don't do vegetables)
Mashed Potatoes
Cookies

So the entree and desert positions were all taken up so I had to bring an appetizer. I'm bringing buffalo wings (both BBQ and Spicy).

Needless to say I had lunch prior to today's potluck and will be happy to partake of their (my) wings and the cookies.

I know, bitch bitch bitch when I'm the picky one. You'd just thing someone would bring in some kind of deli-tray or chicken, or something of that nature.

I thought pot luck lunches were supposed to consist of a variety of foods anyway. At least you have the wings.

Fuck Pot Luck.
I used to go to Chick-Fil-A and get a chicken nugget tray and take that to pot luck, then I just quit doing them. I think last pot luck we had was Thanksgiving, and I kept getting shit for not bringing anything, so I went ot the store, got a can of cranberry sauce, and put it on the table. Now they don't harass me about doing them anymore.

In our office, we have half a dozen 50 or so year old ladies. Our potlucks kick ass :)

I'm a meat & potatoes kinda guy.

+ Mexican & Italian

I just don't like asian food, seafood, and vegetables. I blame mom.

I ended up getting a chili mac from the place I bought the wings from. Ate it before the potluck.

Gotta say that the cookies were kick ass, though.

You cooked up anything recently Ben? Other then the knuckle sandwich for your girl.

I love being very tolerant to food. I'll try any food once and like probably 99% of what I try. It inspired me to cook. Now I cook. I am awesome.

I wish I didn't eat all the wings in my house. I'm so fat. And now I'm hungry.

Maybe you should lay off gobbling on the cock too.

I miss potlucks.

When I was working in downtown Houston, we had a department full of people who had worked together for years and were hellacompetitive about bringing the best stuff for lunch. We'd do them quarterly or so, and we had breakfast and lunch... and we also had several people who loved to play bridge/spades/hearts, so we'd get card games going at lunch 2 or 3 times a week. Damn. They were sweet folks, too. Good times. I miss me some bridge.

Hell at least one of them could have brought some form of a salad WTF. When we have pot lucks the same people always bring something and the same group who never brings anything are first in the feed line for some food.

I always take homemade chicken and noodles. ( I even roll the noodles out and cut em myself.) You can come to our potlucks Wezas.

Is a potluck like a non-New England thing? The only time I've heard of people bringing different food was the end party for summer camp.

Also, HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE SHRIMP???? Yeah, it's basically a bug, but it's so good!!!

02-17-2005, 07:07 PM
I have scrimp allergies, I loved 'em tho. I was like George on Sienfeld.. THE OCEAN CALLED, THEY SAID THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF SHRIMP..

ANyway, we had pot luck in my elementary school like.. ALL the time. Now, never again. GUESS WHAT PART OF THE US I LIVE IN!?!?

I used to participate in potlucks at work for years until the day this really nice co-worker of mine asked me for a lift to work on potluck day(my day off though).

I got to her house early & entered thru the side door which went led me right into the kitchen...it was like something out of the Twilight Zone.

Millions of cockroaches were crawling EVERYWHERE from ceiling to floor & here stood my co-worker peeling potatoes up for for the potatoe salad she was bringing to the potluck. Every few slices she had to discard a chunk that had a piece of cockroach in it & just tossed the other half into bowl.

Her house was a filthy, disgusting mess & her kids were on the verge of being psychopaths.

I would NEVER have guessed at any of that from viewing her work habits & talking with her for years. After that I couldn't bring myself to eat at or bring food to a potluck again...after all I hadn't been to the other umpteen employees houses who brought food either..

I can do a won-ton soup and that spicy beef over a fire thing. But that's pretty much where it stops.

As for seafood - the last 2-3 times I've eaten it (fish, shrimp, etc) I've gotten violently ill.

Vegetables I just hate. Except for Artichoke. Artichoke is the shit.

Everyone brings a dish (or in my case - because of my lack of cooking skills - buys a dish). Then it's a buffet style lunch where everyone gets a little of everything.

It works out well as long as almost your entire group isn't asian. At least the russian woman made a decent pastry.

We always had great pot lucks at the zoo. The staff was a real melting pot of ethnic groups, and everybody loved doing the lunches.

The BAW staff were all WASPs, but they did great pot luck, too. Come to think of it, pot lucks at the League were way above average.

Maybe animal people just give good potluck.

I'm blocking the cockroach story out of my head. I never want to think about it again.

Also called homecoming at church. This thread made me hungry as hell until I read that one post about the cockroaches. ;)

Heh, wish I could...it sure killed any idea of trying some of great food people had brought in for potlucks.

My youngest daughter was 3 at the time of this incident & she squeezed up to the doorway I was standing in & caught sight of the ten billion roaches.

Before I could snag & drag her out she said "WOW, Mom they must have ALOT of ant hills in here because I've never seen to many ants!!"

I had a really hard time keeping a straight face as I told her there was no way I was going to put cockroach infested food & other items into my car
