As a person who was an original moderator and user when this forum originally opened up, I am sad to see the state it is in. Yes, text based games are not the hottest market, but a niche market that people generally are very passionate about. Reading and posting in the Politics forum really makes this place not look very good.

I have seen this time over time in forums from football forums to technical forums, when moderators open sub forums that allow off topic or politics, it destroys what ever person came to the forum originally for. There are several posters on here who have just said some of the most hateful things to another person. I am sure it goes real deep.

Solution, I would recommend would be to delete that sub forum. What most likely should happen is that it is just blocked from the public eye and only open to the idiots who want to post their and fight daily among themselves.

I was also a mod here and on the forums before this one, the PC is fine. It serves its purpose as a place people can go to without having to worry about GM interference and heavy-handed moderation. If you don't like a content type, don't read the folder. If you don't like a poster, ignore them. If you can't handle the PC, there are other forums out there for you. It really is that simple.

As a person who was an original moderator and user when this forum originally opened up, I am sad to see the state it is in. Yes, text based games are not the hottest market, but a niche market that people generally are very passionate about. Reading and posting in the Politics forum really makes this place not look very good.

I have seen this time over time in forums from football forums to technical forums, when moderators open sub forums that allow off topic or politics, it destroys what ever person came to the forum originally for. There are several posters on here who have just said some of the most hateful things to another person. I am sure it goes real deep.

FYI, New Posts is also under "What's New". It is an entire tab with several options under it. A lot of the people I've seen complain have been using the forums for a time and know of the "New Posts" feature but would rather complain about the content of the forum and continue to use the inferior features.

Politics crap aside, I think you're underestimating the number of new and returning players around. You don't see them here as much because at the very first opportunity they are steered well clear of this forum and lnet because of their toxic atmospheres. At every open house event I've attended, there are at least two or three genuine new or returning players there, and there are a great deal more you encounter throughout playing the game and helping people with questions.

The problem of "Just ignore them" is not that anyone here has the inability to do so. Those of us who've been around know the the drill and are desensitized to people being horrible to one another. New and returning players come back in from the real world, where people treat each other like human beings. The impression given here can immediately drive returning players away when they inevitably arrive because they come with the reasonable expectation of a friendly, or at least neutral environment.

The WoW forums are very toxic. The LoL forums are very toxic. The forums for 99.999999% of any successful game are toxic as fuck. This place is mild compared to most if not all of those communities. People also don’t get roasted on here for simply asking questions. If a new player/poster shows up and they’re not being a jackass, we’re pretty nice to them.
