View Full Version : Women and Make up
Okay, this pisses me off about some women. Do not come and tell me that women look better without make up. They do not. In fact, chances are, they look gross. Unless you are super hot you do not look good without make up. Be less weird and wear some. Thank you.

Clothes are a completely different catagory, but disgusting clothes will make just about anyone look disgusting. So we can agree.

Sure. You have the right to demand that women wear makeup all the time as soon as you start wearing a tux all the time.
Jorddyn
Tuxedo = special occasion
Make up = every day thing
Now, I'd have no right to say this if I say... Didn't wear deoderant or if I didn't shave, but I do. Basic stuff. This is what make up is.

When clothes start being applied to the body and make people (women) look better on than off, your argument will make sense.

When clothes start being applied to the body
You put on makeup, you put on clothes. You take off makeup, you take off clothes.
and make people (women) look better on than off, your argument will make sense.
You're arguing that most people look better WITHOUT clothes on? Been to WalMart lately? Now imagine a nudist WalMart.

I'm curious....
Arkans, are you in a relationship with someone right now? And if so, how long have you been in one?
There are quite a few men out there that could stand to wear makeup also, truth be told.
Men wearing make-up is quite beef wellington, unfortunately.

PS: I have no problem holding long term relationships

You know how many men out there would look a heck of a lot better wearing make up? Yes, there is such a thing as men doing just that, and until you decide to cover up those nasty blemishes and slap on at LEAST some concealer after moisturizing your face and swabbing on toner, then you can talk.

Please look above and see that I have no problem holding long term relationships. This obviously means something. Please use dah brain.
Why? Because a relationship is about tact as much as it is love and all that fun stuff. You do not go to your significant other and say something like this. Everyone knows that is fucking stupid.

You said you had no problem holding them. You did not answer my question as to whether or not you were IN one right now, or how long you had held it for.
I've come to the conclusion that you simply make these threads to get a rise out of people. If that is how one manages to amuse themself, then fine.
Beauty I suppose is a matter of opinion. And from seeing your portrait, my opinion tells me that you would greatly benafit from wearing makeup yourself. Gay or not.

Using makeup everyday for years will cause you to have a leatherface. Some women leave it for special occasions, so I didn't have anything against the tuxedo analogy.
And yes, some women look better without makeup. If you NEED makeup, chances are that the makeup won't make it much better, just tolerable to look at you.
Obviously you care enough to reply. Did I strike ANOTHER chord with you? Christ.

Who the fuck are you talking about? Not that it matters because it's a really fucked up thing to say.
I agree with CT's point up to a limit. For instance, there is no reason to put on make-up if you are running out to the store real fast to pick up cigarettes, a stick of butter, or something real fast. I agree. If you are going out into the general public for prolonged periods of time, it might be a good idea to put some on.

I'm referring to the fact that some straight men would benefit to wearing makeup. And I don't mean eyeliner, lipstick, etc. I'm thinking concealer and foundation.

I don't wear makeup. I think the last time I wore any was for the Christmas party for work, and the time before that was last year's party. Whenever I do the guys tell me that I look better without it.
It's not for everyone. Sometimes even a little is too much. And some will certainly not wear it to go somewhere outside. No one wants to look like a raccoon while dripping in the sun. :D

You can find some of the most unattractive women who wear makeup with a passion and it does nothing but draw attention to the fact that they are trying to cover up that unattraction. It doesn't always enhance especially if you don't have something to work with before putting it on.
I like eye liner.
Dripping eye liner is weird.
I refuse to believe any woman looks better without make-up. I have never seen it.
- Arkans
I agree, DeV. If it looks like a truck hit you in the face at 80 MPH, all the make-up in the world won't help. Plastic surgery and a prayer might, but not make-up. I am talking about the women that are generally average and above thinking they look better without make-up, which is a complete lie.

You must hang out with some fugly chicks.

You insulted women, I am a woman. Say what you want.
Though, didn't blatantly call ugly, I simply said you could benafit from some face-paint. If I look like a robot to you in my pictures then thats how you feel. I am rather disspointed that you came up with such a lousy retort though.
Most of the time I don't wear makeup unless I'm going out for a good time or at work. I have the unfortunate appearance of looking like I am 12 (the braces only enhancing) the way I look without makeup on. I don't like to wear it, its a pain in the ass to put on (guys, try putting on liquid eyeliner and having it look NICE) and a pain in the ass to take off. (Oil-based makeup remover for waterproof mascara SUCKS)
I have a guy, why the fuck would I put so much effort into looking hot out in public when I've got what I want? Why on gods green earth would I even bother to make myself look nice to impress people like Arkans? I don't.
But to sit here and group women by saying that they are obligated to put on makeup to look nice for the masses is just rediculously stupid.

As to the content of the original topic, it's a matter of personal opinion.
I'm more attracted to someone with enough self-confidence to present themselves in public without the three coats of whore paint. Natural beauty, inside and out, will knock-out a saline tittied, platinum blonde who looks like she's one step from a three ring circus any day of the week.

Considering the way that a lot of women lay it on with a trowel, there's actually several people I know that look a LOT better without it.
In fact, unless you're going to take the time to learn how to apply it properly and buy the right kind, you probably are better off without it.
I don't wear it much. Life's too short for me to spend 15 minutes in the morning caking it on and 45 minutes at night repairing the damage it's done to my skin. My skin is much better than most women my age because I don't wear it and I don't get out in the sun.
Actually, what would be far better for most women than makeup is regular sleep and a healthy diet -- and most of us fall far short of that ideal. You can't ever simulate the 'glow' of healthy skin with any kind of makeup.
And it's really not fair to point to Cristina's pix as any kind of proof. You do realize that she's probably had an hour's worth of professional makeup application and the photos are retouched, right? Unless you can afford to have your own makeup artist at home, you're NEVER going to get those kinds of results.

Chicks who know how to use make up and do are way hotter than chicks who don't know how to use make up and do. They're also usually better looking wearing it than not.

There is no chance I would touch Christina. No amount of foundation would obscure her VD.
Maimara, don't take this as an insult, you did put up your picture, but you look a LOT like my friend's mother and thus I can't comment at all.
As for Ylena, a healthy diet and natural beauty only go so far. Make-up, properly applied, always will be an excellent enhancer. Let's face it, eye liner can bring out the eyes really well and add a lot of great extra spice as can mascara and lipstick. As long as you do not look like a clown you're all set.
Now, using Christina you can only use her without make-up or others that are as good looking as her (not any of us) when comparing them. Now, looking at her with and without one can see. Looking at other attractive girls with or without one can see I am correct as well. Please have common sense with make-up.

Looking "better" is dependent on the eye of the beholder, I'd say. It isn't always the most important thing one might be thinking about. What I look like doesn't make me any better at what I do, and that's the big picture, as far as I'm concerned.

I prefer women without make up. In fact, previous girlfriends pissed me off by making me late all the time because they want to look better. Personally I think they look better without it.
Makeup looks good on women who are really dressed up. If a woman goes to a wedding with a nice dress and everything, I think they look better with some makeup on. However the other 95% of the time they are wearing normal clothes... make up is not needed, nor wanted.

Agreed, Scott. If I'm going to get all done up for something, I'll wear makeup. It just seems logical that if you're dressed up like Mrs. Astor's Plush Pony, you might as well make the face match the finery.

Heh. I don't think I'm "beyond hope", Arkans. I do just fine for an "old broad", thank you very much. However, I don't find my looks to be all that important in the broad scheme of things. That actually brings up a good point:
Woman should probably know, or at least have a sixth sense of *when* it is appropriate for them to be wearing make-up.
I.e. When we are going out to my favorite restaurant in not-so-nice neighborhood, it is not appropriate for you to be wearing make-up as I may wake up in a jail cell the next morning.
In the bed-room, you had better be wearing a make-up overdose, and make sure it isn't the runny shit.

FYI people need to learn to just let it go. If you're so easily offended by something typed on a message board chances are you're an idiot(I hope that doesn't offend any idiots out there maybe I should say brains lacking)
I've been pissed off one or two times by something said by someone on these boards but it was due to the thought behind it not the word. I've yet to be in up in arms when someone calls something white or cracker or christian or any other word I can associate with. If I call something gay, or something white, and it offends someone that's gay or white or whatever you can bet all your money that I'm on this side of the monitor laughing my ass off at someone being pissed at that.
For the rest of the week I'm going to associate stupid/dumb/retarded to the word beef wellington. If that pisses you off please U2U me.

I kinda agree with Arkans, though not as severely.
Some women look very lovely with no makeup at all. But even those women look even MORE lovely with a touch of gloss on their lips and a smidge of mascara (even if it's just that clear uncolored mascara).
Most women don't have flawless skin. But a dab of tinted moisturizer is often enough to make it look like they do.
As for me, I don't have any eyebrows, and my eyelashes are very sparse. So I can't go out in public without eyeliner and eyebrow pencil. That's the absolute minimum just to open the front door to the house.
Usually I'll put on a little foundation, liner and brow pencil, and some bronzing powder on my cheeks (I hate "blush" - I'm too old to be blushing damnit!). And when I'm in the mood I'll add lipstick, but I'm usually too lazy for that.
In the summer, face powder replaces the foundation or else my skin looks greasy.
I -know- I look better with makeup than without. I look like a freak without it because of this hair issue. I don't mind wearing the makeup at all, and in fact it's one of the few "girlie" kinda things I actually enjoy doing. Shopping for a new eyeshadow is fun. Experimenting with colors is fun. Getting free samples of new eye creams is fun. Filenes - is Fun, damnit!
Shallow as hell and proud of it.
I have an all new appreciation for Jazuela.

Arkans is correct in his thoughts on women looking better with then without <look at that B.Spears no make-up picture> He is not correct if he think ALL women look better with then without. So he is 50% right
Now make-up is mostly an illusion, it hides the bad and accents the good. You can make your eyes stand out more/look brighter bigger smaller etc. Now the damage that it does to your face is the kicker, blocked pores and what that does to your complexion are unbelievable.
Now if your going to base your choice in a woman who has to wear that to look hot? Then god help you come morning when that make-up is all over your pillow and you have another "face" on it looking at you

I could easily see myself trapped in a department store having to shop for makeup and clothes for all of eternity as punishment for my sins on this earth. In other words, having to 'futz' with my hair and makeup and clothes is my idea of Hell.
Then again, an enjoyable day on the job for me usually ends with an hour under running water to get the mung off and burning my clothes in the interest of public safety. My idea of dressing up is jeans with no holes or paint stains and a t shirt in the same condition. I always sucked at being a girly type of girl.
Still, I've been married for over 20 years to a man who wouldn't change a thing about me. (Well, ok, he'd lose the arthritis for me if he could.) Mike finds perfume to be irritating, makeup to be stupid and a preoccupation with what to wear to be an extraordinary waste of time.
Luckily there are girls who love making up as much as there are guys who love that look. Just as there are girls like me who couldn't be bothered and guys who prefer their women unfloofed. There's someone for everyone out there, if people just learned to live and let live we'd all be much happier.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know for a fact that I look better with make up on but I only ever wear proper make up when Im going somewhere special. Normally I just put a bit of mascara on and some Mac powder to make sure my face doesn't shine.
My best friend looks gorgeous and hardly ever wears make up, she just doesn't need to. I think a lot of it depends on age too, I used to wear a ton of make up when I was 16-18 thinking it looked good, but you realise as you get a bit older, less is more.
If you save the heavy make up for special occasions you feel better when you go out, if you trowel it on daily you look pretty over the top.
The only advice I would give, is wear at least SPF 15 on your face, every day. I wouldn't leave the house without putting it on, I really don't want a face full of wrinkles at 40!
Jazuela
02-17-2005, 09:02 AM
Mac makeup - awesome. Their eyeliner glides on like oil but stays put all day til you take it off. Their bronzer is so natural looking, if you use a light touch and a big fluffy brush...gives just a hint of shadow to the contours of your cheekbones without adding "color." I like the Clarins foundation, it doesn't cake up, doesn't have oil in it to give you that greasy look in the winter, doesn't give you zits, blends great with naturally blotchy skin...
As for clothes shopping, that's the Devil's work and I loathe it. I can't stand trying on clothes. Most of the time I wear sweats or khakis and a tee-shirt, so I don't have to spend much time in the dressing room. Trying to figure out what size I wear is an ordeal.... 13, 12, or 14? Impossible to tell because each brand sizes their stuff differently. Plus I'm short, but "petite" 14 is SO narrow in the hips I can't slip them up - yet the regular 14 of the same brand is WAY too big and I'd have to get the hems cropped 4 inches off.
I don't even bother trying to find button-down shirts anymore. Big boobs and narrow shoulders = pull-overs.
Anyway...
Makeup should accent the face, not replace it. It should highlight the features you feel are the most attractive, while at the same time subduing (not obscuring) the features you feel are least attractive.
As for the surprised look <chuckle> - yeah, sometimes when I'm too tired or not in the mood to be careful, the arched eyebrow thing comes out looking a little weird. But most of the time I get it right. I've been doing it for over 25 years now. Took awhile to learn not to just draw a couple of arched lines and fill them in. I can almost do it without a mirror now, if I had to.

Is there such thing as natural beauty? Absolutely.
That doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of girls I know (read: 18-21 year old) can look absolutely amazing at times and straight busted other times. A lot of the time, the difference is makeup.

My 2 cents…
Unfortunately, I agree with Arkans. But I’ll phrase it by saying “most” women look better with make-up because I’m not so arrogant as to think I’ve met every type of woman there is.
Make-up, when used as an enhancer, can be a thing of art. Also, it’s very easy to enhance certain features and still look completely natural. So the idea that make-up can only be considered an illusion is quite silly too. When I get a tan I put a lot less on because of the natural color I have in my face. That doesn’t mean that when I have less sun, my looks are an illusion.
But as many others say…things like getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, eating healthy, and getting some light sun helps more. Like, ten times more than any make-up can. So is being healthy considered an illusion too?
Some women are luckier than most in that they don’t need much as far as enhancements. On a regular basis, I spend 2-5 minutes putting make-up on. To go clubbing and such, it’s about 15 at most. I don’t find that excessive or irritating. At the same time, if I didn’t feel like putting make-up on, I don’t really give a fuck what anyone else thinks.
The only thing I find objectionable about what Arkans said was his tone. But then, that’s Arkans
:duh:

The one I use is Teint Fluide Multi-Matifiant (in English, that's multi-matte liquid color).
It's a creamy liquid, and I don't believe it contains any sunscreen. But that's what moisturizers are for anyway :)
It is a very basic, no-nonsense kind of foundation that smells nice, but not strong.
Most of the time I don't even use the foundation on my whole face; just a little on my nose and cheeks, since that's where my skin gets really splotchy. It doesn't create a "flawless" finish. It just sort of - blends everything together. Clarins has a bunch of different types of foundation, so have the counter clerk pick the one most appropriate for your skin.

It improves most women but I can't stand them having it constantly...especially in the bedroom. I can't stand touching a woman's face and having makeup all over my hands. And the ones who don't know how to wear it definitely should not. Indeed, some women look generally better with none, but they are relatively rare.
And I wouldn't do Christina Aguilera, makeup or no. Can you imagine where that's been and what's been in it?

Makeup is a facade and a lie as to what a woman really looks like.
Having someone who normally doesn't wear makeup show up at a function with makeup just kicks up her looks and enhances them. Someone who wears makeup day in and day out will have to keep that illusion going forever because at that point anyone who saw them without it wouldn't recognize them and find them gross, especially since the makeup would have ruined their skin anyway.
This is all about opinion and how different woman look better in different ways. Nothing can be proven one way or another. I'm sure you can also find pictures of Britney and Christina at their worst with makeup. There will always be bad days regardless of whether makeup is worn or not.

I wear makeup when I'm going out to NYC for a friday night or if I have an event to go to. As for everyday? Nah. It messes up my skin. I wont lie though, I look nice with makeup on but it's just not worth messing up my skin. That and I'm too lazy to put it on in the morning.
I feel sorry for women who wear it practically every day of their lives and when they hit their early to mid 40s they have the leatherface look. At that point it's like they must wear it so as not to scare the shit out of small children and animals.
Yeah, but when you hit 40, it's pretty much all over for you anyway!
- Arkans
Nah. For some, not all. I work with a woman in her 40s who has the smoothest complexion I've seen for a woman her age. She looks like she's in her late 20's. She's fine and wears the most subtle hints of makeup if any at all, no concealer necessary. That's sexy to me.
It scares me to think of the kind of women you see on a daily basis. :weird:

You think that way until it's you hitting that 40 mark, then you realize how very young 40 is.
Edited to add:
And turning 40, then 50, sure beats the alternative.

There's some hot older men, too. Tho you have to blow the coals harder to get a flame.
Worth it. The fire burns longer and hotter.
As it were.
I'll stop now.

I got you all beat.
CoverGirl AquaSmooth make-up is the SHIT. It is SPF 15 and its a liquid-to-powder finish. It doesn't give you that mask look (as my freckles will still show through) but it helps even out skin tones. (Like the lovely red patches after washing your face). It also has beneficial minerals in it too. I am also guilty of going to sleep with makeup on but I suffer from very few blemishes using that stuff.
AAAND, unlike MAC, it only costs like 7 bucks.

ok someone send me some of this covergirl stuff! I've never found really good foundation, was using a YSL that was ok but so bloody expensive! I'm resorting to a body shop one at the moment!!
I see a lot of extremely attractive women that wear make-up very well. They should never be without it.

I've never had any good luck with Cover Girl. Of course, I hate the Clinique that I'm currently using, too. Not a Mac store to be found within a hundred miles. Any other suggestions?

The lead singer of greenday wears his make up really well, he should never be without it!
Although, I'd hit it with or without the eyeliner!

See my avatar.
There's nothing I like more than makeup. Anyone could come up to me and ask me to apply their makeup, and I'd do it.
I don't know where people are getting this "leatherface" deal. Maybe with some of the foundations in the past that MIGHT be possible, because of poor application mostly, but nowadays it isn't.
The only thing that'll get you a leatherface is sun damage. And I know plenty of 40 year olds who used to sun bathe. It isn't the makeup.

Same prob with MAC here, the nearest store I've actually found is at Dublin airport!
If you guys have L'oreal you should try their translucide foundation. It's pretty good and not that expensive. Also, good old fashioned Max Factor make up is good!

Massive amounts of sun and tanning salons coupled with massive amounts of makeup = leatherface. Ok, maybe I should have used a better word like spooky clown face maybe. This is something I notice mainly in women upper 30s and higher.

Actually, the make up they're making now can even help your complexion. With all the anti-oxidents (because most of us don't eat as well as we should) and the added spf.
I think most women (under the age of 40) don't use foundation all the time. But I also don't think that if a women has some issues with her complexion and needs some, that it's a complete illusion. She's covering her very slight flaws so you can see the true beauty of her features. If you have ugly features, no make up will ever help. As far as getting dressed up to go out, it's the fun part about being female!
P.S. I need to go try the cover girl stuff. I'm using Sephora now and it's okay but a bit dry.

Now, since I am not above resorting to insults, this means very little from someone that comes off looking like a retarded robot in her pictures. The rest is a matter of opinion, sorry if it offends you enough to insult.

I'm an 8.6 according to Hot or Not. I submit that it means nothing :)

Because by the year 2050, they will have robbed mother Earth of all its make-up supplies, causing billions of hideous woman creatures to roam the streets without the protection they deserve and others deserve from them. :clown:

I love make up and never leave the house without it. Do I look like crap without it...No but I look better with it and I'm all for looking my best. If you use make up to enhance it looks very natural and I can do my face in 10 min.
I use covergirl tinted moisturizer all over and l'oreal foundation over trouble spots. blush, lipstick, cover up where needed, eyeliner and mascara. 10 min.
Everyone comments on great my skin looks, so I don't think using make up daily has ever hurt me. (remember I'm an old broad) Here is a picture of me in full make up, make up your own minds.
You look damn good for an old broad.

Some women look great without make up. I have a friend who has perfect skin and she is in her 40's and NEVER wore it. Once I gave her a make over and the difference was startling, before she was pretty, natural looking.. with she was a knock out, turn your head and stare beautiful. BUT thats not her personality, she was very uncomfortable with the attention. She went back to the very natural look except she does now wear a bit lipstick and mascara.
Seee she wears make-up!

What about Mimi from the Drew Carey show?

WTF? You're using a TV show character that is deliberately made to look ugly? You've got to be kidding me.

Make for the women today is like the second skin. That is why it is very important to choose the correct brand like https://www.alyaka.com/brands/munskin/ . I have found it at my wife's table a couple of months ago. And now she is telling everybody how it is great. I like this influence on her.
