No. Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with these people? They should all get cancer and die. Didn't anyone alert them to the fact that racism is for assholes and scum?

I fucking hate Indiana.

Also, it's cute to appropriate words/music/fashion/culture from people you supposedly hate.

Fuck. I hope someone kills that girl and all of her weasely little friends. It's just not fucking appropriate under any circumstances. Ever.

I also like how you can be a stupid racist cunt and still tan. It must be REALLY difficult to understand the concept of melanin even though you put it to work every summer until you turn some god awful unnatural shade.

Ignorant bitches.

[If you're lazy to go and read this, here's a clip from it:]

the OC is the greatest show ever! but i was a little dissapointed with the finale tonight! lol and "niggers" are gross.. they should all die..

I wouldn't be so quick to use this group as an example of Indiana. You can find people like this in every state, even your's.

[edited to add] Of course your state if you're indeed posting from IN.

Indiana doesn't suck that much. Oh wait yes it does. I can't wait to get out of college and move away from here.

:?: Yep, and it still sounds retarded as hell whatever the context. Even blacks that use the variation as "nigga". The original word has lost its "damage factor" in so many ways that itss not insulting at all to me, its stupid/ignorant.

Maybe it's just me but I think the "N" word played itself out a long time ago. Non-blacks can't understand the reasons why blacks flipped the meaning. I don't really understand, either. Though, in my opinion, it will never mean anything positive.

Racisim is the universal disguise for the ignorant.

If someone has to differentiate themselves from others based on race, creed, culture, or national origin in order to elevate their own inflated need for superiority then they need some serious education.

omg I love the OC too! Wait...that's not what's at hand.

I don't dare click on the link while at work, but that is just screwed up. She sounds like a little spoiled 12 yr old in the snippet with no sense of the world.

I'm always careful with what I put in my journal, even giving people I come into contact with a 'moniker' of sorts.

Ignorant also came to mind with me. She needs a good bitch-slapping. (Geesh, I must be in a pissy mood today)

For a pretty good academic treatment of the use/misuse/appropriation of the term nigger, check out Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word by Randall Kennedy.

I'd say it's an important monograph that gets very little attention.

The journal entry appears to be the semi-literate ramblings of a not-too-bright schoolgirl in some insignificant burg someplace in the U.S.A.

Hardly anything worth such venom. She'll grow up and her viewpoints will change and she'll be embarassed that she ever wrote such things. Or she'll grow up and her viewpoints will harden and she'll become a breeder in a Neo-Nazi survivalist cult someplace.

If you want an ignorant child to embrace a more tolerant mindset, perhaps a bit less 'death to bitches' in your approach to the situation would serve your purpose better.

how about apathy towards behavior like hers breeds more apathy towards ignorance?

seriously, just saying "oh, it's just child's behavior" totally dismisses the fact that it's an attitude like that breeds and/or continues the cycle of racism in america.

I can honestly say that racism in toronto is uncommon, if not non-existant. A friend of mine was applying to be a fireman and he finished his course, but he was told in school that it is much easier to get a job in canada if you are a minority because diversity in the work place is encouraged.

As for teenagers in toronto, Apparently it's considered cool to date someone outside of your own ethnic background here.

Oh, I have no issue with trying to correct such behavior when one encounters it. I just think that the degree to which the originator of this thread got bent out of shape was a bit extreme given that the source of his displeasure is a stupid schoolgirl from some small town someplace.

Telling a stupid ignorant kid that they're acting like a stupid ignorant kid is one thing. Ranting that she is a bitch and a cunt, and that she and all of her friends should be murdered or get cancer and die just seems like a huge waste of energy, and more likely to firm her racist beliefs than show her the error of her ways.

After cruising his website, I'd have to agree with you.

I remember seeing a TV show a few years ago about a guy whose hobby was crashing parties and getting his picture taken with famous people. This guys website reminded me of that person.

He sure has a lot of degrees from a lot of different schools, doesn't he? And all those teaching credits!

All that I.Q. going for him and he thinks some ignorant high school twit from Middle America is gonna be his 'internet angel'? Something seems a bit incongruous here.

Or maybe I'm just posting because I finally learned how to put a picture up with my posts and I want to show off my Buffy!

Technically, this is a bit off topic since it doesn't involve racism. It does however involve Indiana and... Well, just read it.

Somewhat related...it's about racism and a xanga post (my own).

I realize the following is extremely disorganized and a little all over the place, but I'm too tired to make my thoughts flow. Just things that have been in my mind the last few days.

Anyone that knows me even remotely well knows that I don't let race become a factor in my relationships with people unless they make it a factor first. Hell I can count the number of Asian friends I have on two hands (if I haven't talked to you in since high school, you don't count). I'm also the first one to acknowledge when someone is more qualified/smarter than I am, and I'm a firm believer in the idea that you can learn more from people that come from different backgrounds.

At the Intern Forum yesterday, several things jumped out at me. The first was at lunch when we were freed from assigned seating, there were three tables that were 75% or more black interns (for the sake of the people that don't know me that well, I'd like to take this moment to point out that I use the term 'black' rather than 'African-American' because the vast majority of my black friends believe the latter is grossly inaccurate in most cases). When I sat at one of the aforementioned tables to briefly chat with a friend of mine in the Tyson's office, the looks I got were far from welcoming. Why?

The second thing I noticed was that throughout the three days of training in Somerset, there was perhaps three instances (all the same person, within the span of 15 minutes at a business lunch) of a black intern volunteering an opinion/answer. Notably, all of the instructors/speakers at Orientation were white. The motivational speaker we had yesterday afternoon was black. Coincidentally, I would venture a guess that at least 70% of the hands raised in the second 3 hour portion of the Forum were by black interns. Whereas in the morning, during administrative powerpoints, there were precisely 0 questions/comments by black interns.

Why? Is it just because people feel more comfortable addressing someone that is from the same background as they are? Or is it something else?

I received an invitation to breakfast at Tyson's from the Diversity Circle at work for Wednesday. I'm not going to go, despite the little room for declination in the eVite. Why do we insist on emphasizing our differences and flaunting them? How are we ever supposed to achieve any semblance of equal opportunity when there are programs specifically created to help some people further along their career, while others make do with what they have?

From what I've seen at U. Va and what little time I've spent in "the real world," there exists among most minority groups this sense of entitlement to special treatment because of past wrongdoing. I've never shared this belief. Everything I've done in my life has been on my own merit, and no one can say differently. I'm not the smartest person in my class by far...I can't even say I have the highest SAT scores in my house (stupid brother). But no one can suggest that I don't deserve to be where I am now.

I hear time and again that minorities are just getting their due...reparations for being wronged...things like affirmative action to help them overcome the barriers that others have set before them. I won't address the "righting the past wrongs" issue here, except to say that more than one minority group has been discriminated against in this country, yet in the vast majority of litigation and public outcries, there is one group that is prominent and at the forefront "fighting for equality."

Barriers. It's hard to struggle and break out of the slums and lower class. It's hard when people automatically try to hold you down. Well, no shit. Almost every single immigrant family that comes into the United States deals with the exact SAME barriers, along with difficulties such as not speaking the country's language. They make do, and many manage to claw into middle class, respectability, and push their way further up through hard work and dedication. Find me someone that claims that Asians are not held to a higher academic and professional standard, and I'll show you a naive product of the deep South.

Is racism still rampant in the United States? Absolutely. Is discrimination? Absolutely, and in more ways than one. I noted in an earlier entry that a first year girl in my dorm had the audacity to say to me, "Don't even talk to me about being a minority." What kind of stupid shit is that? If there's one thing that drives me further towards cynicism, it's the selective application of beliefs that is so prevalent with champions of minority rights.

Some women's rights advocates, people like Jesse Jackson, all these people turn a deaf ear to anything that requires compromise. The demand of privileges without the provision for more responsibility has been the only constant since the 60's. It's okay to push another group down so long as your own interests get what you want.
