So I got my hands on a pretty cool looking whip and I'm wondering... does Ambush make up for a Whips horrible AvD and DF? It has 100% Crush which is pretty good, plus flares.

If that's true, that's pretty rough. It also feels like a strange limitation for an already lackluster weapon to have.

I thought it would be cool to Ambush with a whip but it seems like a Rogue with a claidh would be better.

If it were just the DF and AvD that were the problem, whips COULD be used for ambushing from the shadows similar to how some use daggers if you maximized your AS. Unfortunately, the crush crit table doesn't have any death crits below rank 5 though. Due to crit randomization, this means you have a much lower chance of guaranteeing a death crit with a whip then with a dagger or bow even without factoring in that a whip has at least half the DF of either of those weapons. (translation: you'd have to underhunt a fair amount to regularly get the kind of endrolls you'd need to crit-kill with a whip regularly... eventually by enough that learning might not be possible).

I have seen a character that dual-wielded flaring whips after it was made possible to do that.... but they relied on speed rather then crits to kill.

They should make whips a "thrown" weapon the doesn't leave your hand, like a cheap thrown returner. Letting it bypass parry defense would give it a significant viability boost, and give thrown users an entry level weapon.

There are a lot of things they should do with weapons. I feel that every weapon should have its own unique properties beyond AvD/DF. Like whips can be used to knock someone to the ground by wrapping up their foot, or maybe used to yank things from their hands, things like that.

I'll keep the whip and I'll most likely use it as a cosmetic part of the outfit I'm working on since I can wear it. I might swap to range at some point? If not, I'll keep using a claidh.
