View Full Version : Official: New Treasure: Collectibles!

A new treasure sub-system has been released: Collectibles!
Creatures will now drop a new type of treasure! This treasure is exclusive to treasure chests and can be sold at the pawnshop like any other treasure. However, they may also be collected and redeemed for special rewards at the new collectibles shops located in each town. The collectibles shops will also store these collectible items for you, so you don't have to use up valuable inventory and/or locker space while working towards completing a set.
The COLLECT verb can be used to keep track of what collectibles you have DEPOSITed at a collectibles shop. The previous functionality of COLLECT to collect seawater and blood for sorcery has been moved to the HARVEST verb. You can view the currently released collectible sets with COLLECT ALL (there are 35 at the time of release) and your progress towards a particular set with COLLECT SET [#]. If you are not sure if an item that you have is a collectible, you may use COLLECT EXAMINE to check if the item is collectible. Finally, COLLECT ACHIEVEMENTS lists the currently collectible achievements and your progress towards earning them.
The new collectibles shops are located:
Wehnimer's - North Ring Road
Icemule - Commerce Burrow
Solhaven - South Market
Teras - Golvern Steet
River's Rest - River Road
Zul Logoth - Ruby Tunnel
Illistim - Moonglae Var
Vaalor - Rubicaene Wey
Mist Harbor - Wisteria Crossing
Cysaegir - Treetop Platform

a small alabaster stone building.

Stacks of wooden boxes and crates are piled high around the small room overflowing with a wide assortment of trinkets. Various bits and pieces of curiosity are stuffed inside several dust-covered display cases. The walls are lined with wooden shelves cluttered with a tangle of items. Attendants wander in and out of the aisles, pausing to peer inside a container before resuming their search.

They're really going the distance with this.
You gesture at a sparkling shard of reflective soulstone.
Within this elementally infused shard you detect the equivalent of 32133 usable elemental souls
Cast Roundtime 1 Second.
That's my Confluence "scoreboard" so far that I've been tracking via stacking excessive kills into a reattunement crystal for the past probably 4-5 months. I usually forget to put it on so the "real" score is way higher, but even rounding it all the way up to 100k and considering the amount of grinding I do, and then factoring in the likely shit drop rate of collectibles, this is never going to be achieved by anyone, at least not without purchasing stuff from other players, if that's even going to be possible.
Even with a 100% drop rate...I doubt anyone to date has found 100,000 boxes.
A ridiculous goal like this should have a reward of free cocaine for life or something.

If the rewards are decent it might be ok.
But if it ends up being Pokemon for fluff...

I have no idea and with the assumption that these are very rare, wouldn't it be safe to assume that once a day is potentially extremely low? I know that people who care about collectibles are going to drop some serious cash just to complete the collectibles. That's the mindset this plays off of.

Yes, it is an addition to the treasure system mechanic. See below of the announcement, we just don't know what the rewards are yet.
However, they may also be collected and redeemed for special rewards at the new collectibles shops located in each town.

I was beginning to think I would never find a collectible until I found two on my latest hunt. I have found 85 boxes since the release of collectibles on July 3. The two collectibles I found were "a rounded smooth stone" (#16) and "a handful of coral flakes" (#29). It would be easy to fail to realize that an item is a collectible.
FYI, the pawnshop would not offer to buy either of them. The gem shop offered 30 silvers for the flakes but would not buy the stone. Luckily, the gem shop did not buy the flakes when I sold a bag of gems containing the flakes.
Also, I discovered that a collection is available to withdraw in any town, no matter what town you used to make the deposit.

Plot twist twist: Simu implemented the Scatter as a paywall in the first place but couldn't figure out how to get micro-transactions in at the time so they've been biding their time and when it came they failed due to incompetence.

If you can get cool rewards, ie. Bag of holding upgrades, service certs, w/p/s this would be amazing and everyone would use it. If it’s just for pure epeen/weak rewards (most likely case) then my guess is most will throw this stuff out/pawn it.

The thing is, we don't know what the rewards are yet. We won't until someone completes a set, and I imagine the first set completed will be one of the very minor, easier to complete sets that will have a weaker award.
Still, no reason NOT to collect them.

Sure I just hope there are some good high-end rewards (hint: veniom threads, swatches, certs, violet orbs etc). This was more hoping a gm is lurking on this post and thinks: oh good idea, let me add that as a reward.

I doubt they'd add anything that could be a DR reward, even with a super rare drop rate that these collectibles have. From what I see, it's all generic shit for a system that was implemented pretty quickly and lazily. There's nothing in this aside from its implementation that signifies true effort.

[9] a miniature monk figurine (1/1)
[10] a miniature paladin figurine (3/1)
Your progress on set #7 (Silver Wand Shavings) is as follows:

And hey, if anyone has a spare rogue/cleric/empath/sorcerer to trade for my spare wizard/paladins...

I agree.
Sure, someone can get less than 1k experience if they don't know what they are doing, but the boost can = the same amount plus gives you control over When to use it. Which can help get you from saturated quick to join a friend's bounty or other niche uses affecting your mind status.

I don't think he thinks it clears your whole mind, the cap is known on the boost to be 1,000.
It is marginally better than a static 1k though because of the ability to choose when to clear your mind. You still only get 1k total (or less if you fuck up) but don't have to wait around as you may sometimes with back to back saturated opportunities.

If they're the same, then how is one better than the other? Both are worth up to 1000 exp, both can be used whenever you want (I would assume with the coillection reward), etc.

I think they're a nice boost, but can't speak cor how appropriately they fit into this new system.
I mostly just save them and then burn them up while doing Duskruin arena runs. You can use one halfway through and still come out saturated at the end.

The 1k exp seems generic to any common set, and tied to the achievement... but I'm curious about the 10k silvers.
I kinda assumed the rewards were unique depending on the set, like turn in silver wand shavings and get a charged silver wand (or a pile of uncharged ones), turn in rainbow garments and get a Rainbowear item, turn in guild tokens and get a guild night form. Now I'm wondering if it's just coincidence that the profession figurines' reward is silver and it's the first one I completed, or if they're all silver.
I hope they're not all silver. :P

I don't and I'll actually say it is worse than just +1k perm XP (not in your mind)
With an instant mind clear, you need to bring your mind to below whatever state it is, thus giving up absorption XP (saturated to clear), since you won't go immediately back to saturated. So in actuality, the opportunity cost of the instant mind clear costs you the pulse XP you lose from bringing your mind out of saturation.
With helping a friend out in a bounty, just do it saturated, then when you get back to fried, turn it in...
Ososis has not convinced me.

I’m willing to explain facts, but I’m not here to convince folks that 5 is greater 4. It just is. If you look at an hour of doing bounties, one with an extra 1k added, another with a absorb boost, one nets you more XP, BP, and silver in that hour than the other.
Archigeek
07-19-2018, 05:46 PM
If I'm hunting fried and use an instant mind clear, it's like printing money. 1000xp straight to the mind. In 3 minutes I'm back to fried. So maybe there's a small loss in pulse for maybe 3 pulses, in exchange for 1000xp I can't lose by dying.

10k silver = reward for redeeming (guessing this is what you can get over and over for turning in the set, vs. like 1500 you'd get at the pawnshop)
mind clearer = reward for 1 common collectible set
mind clearer = reward for 1 common collectible
So if I'm right, sure, you could sell the set... once per other character, and only if they hadn't already redeemed a different common collectible set. Now just give me a year and we'll find out if these achievements are 5 and 10 instant mind clearers each, or whatever else: :P
#2. Redeem 5 Different Common Sets (1/5)

Hahahahaha that's worse than even a critter found wand.
I bet the collectible ones can't be duped either. Knowing Simu, probably non-rechargeable as well.

I'm pretty sure this whole system is one giant troll on the entire playerbase. They know no one is going to collect 100k ultra rares or any of that shit, and everything else has been complete shit so far, and no announcement from Simu on what the "good" rewards are supposed to be, which probably means they haven't even thought that far ahead yet.
It's amazing the amount of coding time Simu will sink into dumb shit like this. Same with the iridescent cores that literally never drop, making the entire system Viduus designed around it useless.

I'm not really mad at it from a coding standpoint because different GMs talents lie in different areas, and if someone was only ever going to make fluff, then this project makes sense. If you took someone off an actual useful game mechanics fix to do this then, welp, LMAO.

It's time that could have been spent coding something that was actually good and useful.
Simu loves to design systems that are really close to being awesome, and then fuck it all up at the end making it near useless. I don't blame the actual coder for that. Chances are they probably wanted to do more with whatever their project is and got shut down/scaled back by QC because just about everything in existence is OP to them.

I definitely feel Methais' frustration with where dev time gets spent, even if it wasn't done by a person who could necessarily address his specific concerns. A lot of stuff to do with mages after the 'improvements' is enormously stupid. The cores that never drop, the wild lore requirements for very underwhelming buffs (oh dang snac he can enchant a BASIC FLARING weapon!!!! can you make my drake falchion 2x?!). They did mages like they did sorcs in GS3 Growing Pains. Swung the pendulum way too far. It's like airport security pre and post 9/11. You could bring a machete one day and the next day you can't bring tooth paste. I'm glad I got rid of my mage before all of this mess happened.

I can't believe you still haven't found that core even after all this time. How many kills are you at?
Actual kill count I have no idea, because I usually forget to put on my elemental shard to track it, but my shard is currently at...
Within this elementally infused shard you detect the equivalent of 33088 usable elemental souls
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
But a lot of that number is from before iridescent cores supposedly came out. But 90% of the time I forget to put it on anyway, since you can't wear it simultaneously with the soulstone you use to enter the Confluence, so I have no idea what the real number should be, but probably way higher.
As for plinites though, which is where the cores come from, I'd say I've gone through at least a couple thousand of them since iridescents. I usually open 100-200 a day, sometimes more sometimes less, so roughly that * however many days since iridescents came out.
Every time I post on the officials asking if any at all have been found yet, it gets completely ignored.
Iridescent glowing cores flat out do not exist in this game. Maybe they're supposed to, but aside from the few that went out at the in game event that introduced them, they don't. Those don't count anyway since they weren't an actual loot drop, and I don't believe any have been found by anybody yet.
My guess is assuming this isn't all just a bunch of trolling from Simu, then something is bugged with the "iridescent" part, as Viduus added that to the description a couple days after they came out IIRC, so that you'd be able to tell them apart from regular faintly glowing cores.
I don't even care about actually find them anymore so much as trying to wrap my mind around what they were thinking when they gave them these non-existent drop rates, literally to the point of making the whole system useless and a waste of time for everyone.

I think the problem is, sadly, they didn't intentionally give them a non-existent drop rate, and it's actually a bug that nobody cares enough to fix. Like you said, Viduus slightly altering the description probably threw something out of whack to where they aren't being generated.

Or if they are being generated, they still show up as "a faintly glowing core" instead of "an iridescent glowing core" or whatever their "iridescent" description looks like, and are getting sold, because the only other option is to ANALYZE every single one to see I it shows as an alchemy item, which I'm honestly not even sure if that would work, and faintly glowing cores have no other use and are by far the most common core you'll find, the other cores are probably considered at least "uncommon" drops if not rarer.
By comparison, I've found lots of greater essences in this same time frame and those are considered rare drops.
Something isn't right with iridescents, the problem is most likely like you said...no one gives a fuck enough to look into or fix it or confirm that everything is "working as intended."

There should be one GM with the title of “Bug Fixer” whose only job is to respond to people’s mech complaints, investigate them, and either fix the Bug or put the WAI stamp on it. I think 75% of player angst will disappear overnight.

I like the idea. I don't like the way they implemented it. For shit as weak as a wand those items should be a lot more common. I'm thinking it would be a great thing for low level characters that still depend on wands, but I have found only one thing on my low level characters and it was an Arkati statue.
I don't know if something is borked and certain things aren't being found at the frequency intended or what.

I'm really hoping hunting pressure doesn't affect it, which would be a problem for capped hunting, but I bet it does.
And on the flip side I'm also really hoping that it isn't limited by whatever the mechanic is that makes sure kobolds and such never drop diamonds, but I bet that affects it too. Maybe I'll test that some time this week and take one of my lower level abandoned characters to a decently swarmy place like the Wehntoph...

Scroll infusion stomps out mage recharging similar to how Ensorcelling is more user friendly/more profitable for less work than enchanting. Sorcerors basically get a free extra couple million silvers a week just for hunting which they would already be doing.
edit: and they can't fail and lock an item until a merchant unlocks it LMAO why did mages get hosed so hard. Just remove the base 3% fail rate! Just take it out! Don't tie it to an incredibly infrequent GM merchant service!

edit: and they can't fail and lock an item until a merchant unlocks it LMAO
You can use a sarmoc potion on a locked item to reset/unlock it and start again (takes about a day to reset). I think the point of locking is that you can go a merchant who can basically magic away the catastrophic failure and let you have another go at the final cast without having a destroyed item which you can't use a sarmoc potion on or magic back into being.
edit- but I have to say I was with you when I got a locked item, I thought well I might as well throw this away since I very rarely visit merchants but then I found out about sarmoc potions and thought oh well it's not that bad.

Isn't this whole thing just par for the course for Simu? Most of the problems are just repeats of what they get wrong. Lets consult the checklist:
Gemstone IV Announcement and Teaser Checklist
[ ] New feature is behind a paywall
[ ] Added a new in-game currency
[x] New feature is a good idea but is ruined by nerfs or GM apathy
[ ] System/Mechanic overhaul ends up being a nerf
[x] Lack of information on new feature/item
[x] Expects the player base to figure out how the new feature works with no help
[ ] Event/Feature/Item ends up being a bait and switch
[x] New/changed system requires a massive time investment before getting anything worthwhile (carrot on a stick)
[ ] False advertising
[ ] Minor buff makes the player base paranoid
[ ] New item requires multiple tiers on unlocking
[ ] Last unlock tier on new item is an "auction level" unlock
[ ] Highly sought after item can only be gotten from a "slot machine" game at a paid event
[ ] Blatant lying by a GM
[ ] New cash shop merchandise
If Simu could just fix bugs or do general improvements once in a while they wouldn't have such bad blood with most of the player base. Hell, listening to everyone would be a start.

The reward is that you are still subscribed two months later. It's not a reward for you; it's a reward for the company. Whether or not you liked your end of the reward, you were given a task, however pointless, and convinced that it was both "free" and done for your enjoyment. It included a sense of progression as you finished collectible after collectible hoping that maybe the next one would give you some sort of cumulative "You finished 15 collectibles! Here's a 4x RPA!" boost. Meanwhile you didn't get bored and quit. Welcome to the bar filling model. When players become immune to the gratification of the base bar filling (experience and levels, capping), more bars are added to fill.

You're right. Simutronics has no attrition, nor has it ever had any. Added goals to fill additional bars like continually upgrading one's gear through a smithy, finishing and tricking out one's doll in a cash grab mansion, filling your daily allotment of ghost bucks, or improving the functionality of your trivia fanny pack have never been added to the game in order to extend the functional playtime before boredom.
Bars to fill are added to extend playtime and a player's investment in the game. That's how this gaming model works. This is a shitty bar with shitty rewards, but yes, that is exactly why it was added: To extend the playtime and interest of anyone who decided to participate in it.
You weren't asked to throw simucoins at it, so the rewards are bound to be less than impressive. Impressive bar filling rewards come from rapidfiring simucoins into the game so your script can answer a trivia question to improve your bonus by 0.01%.

It's definitely an underwhelming system that nobody was asking for. That's for sure. And in a game where there are plenty of things that people HAVE asked for that have been ignored for years, that's extra shitty.
If you took the development time out of collectibles and Reim Defense and put them into stuff people actually wanted, I bet nobody would be missing spells anymore.

Playing Devil's Advocate....
GM's probably had energy & creativity to make the collectibles & Reim Defense systems, compared to the energy required for implementing the spells & other systems that people actually want.
Don't get me wrong, I think the implementation of the collectibles was kind of a waste of time, but if that's what the GM(s) that coded it wanted to do, then that's what we get.

I like the system, but for as rare as the drops are the rewards are terrible.

You make your request to the attendant, who nods to you, and says, "Very well. I shall redeem the Gold Coins set for you."
The attendant hands you a dull gold coin as your reward.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but didn't Simu say when this trash came out that they were going to announce what the rare/ultra rare rewards were gonna be "soon?"

In their defense, "soon" usually means less than a decade. It was what, 7 years for ranged weapons, 6 and counting for monk spells, only 9 and counting I think for savants (They were 2009, right?)
Edit to add: Smelt your weapons down for slabs, 2019!!

I already got a rare award. It is the same shit as anything else.

Are there any nice rewards?
On a more philosophical note, this is a game that revolves around hunting. They pretty clearly rolled this out to add an extra dimension to hunting that could benefit everyone (and not just one profession, as a spell release would have done). That wasn't a bad judgement call.
Plus, this isn't a combat system. It's a fluff system with one combat "integration". I doubt this took a ton of a combat Dev GMs time (though that's just a guess).
It's okay to say that the implementation of the system isn't what you would have preferred, but it wasn't a bad call to roll out a system that gives more dimension to combat that anyone can benefit from.

No. There aren't any nice rewards. Unless you consider 10k a nice reward or an instant mind clearerer, which you get for the associated achievement, worth the time. I turned in a rare set and got 2 instant mind clearers (there were two associated achievements) and 10k.

How does anyone benefit from a system with the most garbage rewards in the history of garbage, including both Lane Meyer and Akeem?

Simu's glacial pace has trained some of us to think any dev is good dev.
It really isn't.

I think it is a good idea, but either the rewards should be way better or the drop rates should be more common.

It's an interesting concept but like virtually everything else it winds up being useless because of the implementation.

It would still be trash with the current rewards unless it was like a 100% drop rate. Even then, debatable at best.

Nah man, I disagree. It is fluff, maybe add something more fluffy like a pre/post-name title available if you've collected enough fluffy stuff. I just woke up, sorry.

Yeah, the mindclearers are cool, but you only get one per achievement. If you got them for every set it'd be better.
