So I just recently found out I can use wav files for highlighted custom phrases and words. I know, I know...I've been around Gemstone for like fifteen years now and should know some of this stuff but, well, I don't!

I've started using .wav files to notify me of things like when someone private chats to me, or, on my cleric, when someone dies in the area, or when I get injured, etc. My favorite is the different wav files that I set to trigger when someone my character has interacted with enters a room.

Does anyone else use this feature and what phrases or words do you attach a wav file to and what sounds do you use?

I know it's dumb but I feel like I discovered peanut butter.

I used to have a train crossing wav...for emergencies. Anymore I don't actually USE a wave file, i just type some letters into the box and it gives the standard computer tone.

I have audios for folks cheering me in the arena, TELLS, whisper charms, and if I am waiting for someone I will put it on their name so when they get there it starts ding-a-linging. (can't do audio highlights in the NAMES tab, have to use CUSTOM and write their name)

I also have a secret, case sensitive password my friends know so they can ring me with it.

Its handy, but I did have one guy abuse it. Like, you know I am sleeping and parked at a table to migrate TP. you KNOW this. So don't send me a god damn ******* and make my computer go crazy. I told him I changed it because of him. I didn't, but he didn't think it worked anymore so he stopped using it.

Yeah, this was back in my train crossing wav days. Fucking horrendous. Its good if it's needed, but people dropping it on a sleeping Oso makes a very murderous Oso.

Itchy curses, disarms, weapon fires, popped muscles (sorry I don't have the actual strings)

OOH! a really good one is "that is on the ground" which will catch if you accidentally stash shit in a random ground container.

Ha! I just remembered, my bad sound was train crossing, but my good sound (successful forges mostly) was a baby laughing. Seemed fun at first. Till babies laugh at you late at night.

Got a new laptop and never put the unique sounds back on, but it was a really bad combination of horrifying and horrifying that I was too lazy to change. I like the neutral tone now.

I have a .wav file for when i get a superior/perfect when forging. I'm mobile atm so i can't pull it, but it's a quote from GoT when Arya is getting sword lessons: The grip must be delicate.

I had a cd rom that I bought at one of those computer expo's at a state fairground that has like 1000 wave sounds. Like good morning Vietnam etc. I liked that. I will have to add sounds and change sounds. You know those expo's where you used to have to buy your computer porn. Most of you know what I am talking about. :)

All the .wav files I use for GS are there.

There’s another file somewhere in my Dropbox that I’ll have to find later with my Wizard FE file that has all the sound string configurations and all that which should provide plenty of suggestions. Like hundreds, possibly thousands. Your highlights are probably way different than mine so you probably wouldn’t want to use the file itself for your characters. But you can still load it up and go through the strings and get plenty of ideas. Once I find it. My PC is down for a couple days so I can’t check at the moment.

I literally had links to both of these in my sig for the past few years until like 2 weeks ago. Reported for being blind.

The best sound string to use is when you dismiss your familiar, the guy from Sling Blade goes “Aight then.”

EDIT: Think I found it. It probably has all the Wizard FE config files, as I can never remember which specific file has the sound configurations. It can be imported to SF but I forgot how. Probably easier to just load up Wizard in offline mode and play around with my setup to get some ideas. Make sure to save the .wav files in the same folder your paths is set to.
