Around here, it's a pretty dang good starting wage for someone with no skills.

I'm going to make a few assumptions. 1. It's seasonal. 2. There's no paid vacation. 3. No insurance

The risk alone in doing that job with no insurance isn't worth less than $25 an hour.

Full time and like most other construction jobs, it's all contract work so you can take all the vacation you want and no, it's a small business, no insurance just like a large number of other small businesses out there. But hey, no drug test, no skills needed, the primary danger is if you are a moron with a nail gun or can't walk since he doesn't have a load of mechanized equipment like skid steers and so on.

So, not only is it contract work with no insurance but you get to work with drug addicts with nail guns....make that $35 an hour minimum.

Sounds like your brother is the kind of contractor that wants everyone else to absorb his expenses and make 80$ an hour.

If he's offering a competitive wage he should have no problem finding employees. That's how capitalism works.

Did you really think that decades of blue collar wage stagnation was going to last forever?

Roofing is for sure shit. Iowa's economy is pretty close to Louisiana, right to work state and $7.25 minimum wage.

Funny you mentioned roofers though. There's a huge roofing company here that advertises that they drug test all their employees, think they are starting at $22.00 an hour. The company does exceedingly well.

If you are always the one to complain about the amount of money you make... it's more likely that your skills/work ethic are the issue and not the fault of the company.

I've never complained about my paycheck.. if I wanted more, I would find out what I had to do to make more and if that wasn't possible, I would find someone that would pay me what I felt I deserved.

It's not surprising that there are certain types of people that look to socialism to get their "fair share"....

My brother the fence contractor pays well above minimum wage to start and most people start at over 15 an hour, he is clear that it's hard work, outside in the heat and cold and the only requirement is they show up and aren't drunk/high (no drug test, just can't be wasted while working), don't mouth off at work (can't piss off customers) and must be a US citizen. He still can't get people to show up to work.

Meanwhile, the parents and families of these entitled darlings of all ages along with the government support them

Welcome to a free market, if people feel their time is worth more than what he is paying then they absolutely shouldn't take the job. If you can make $15 an hour working at a gas station why the fuck would you do hard labor for probably just barely above that.

It's absolutely hilarious that you and your brother feel you are entitled to people's labor for a price HE thinks is fair and that it's all the liberals faults he doesn't know how a business works.

YOU might do that but let me tell you there are plenty of people who don't. There are always people who will try to underpay their employees for a couple extra bucks.

Markets change and he obviously isn't paying the market rate anymore or someone is paying above the market rate and laborers are choosing them. You of course are free to feel that he isn't getting contractors because of people wanting to stay on unemployment like Rocktard does, I just don't think thats it.

Unemployment is at 2015 levels right now. Other than the obvious covid impact, I cannot explain why the job market is incredibly hot and dried up at the same time. I can't find skilled employees in my field. Or even entry level employees in my field. I've got 3 positions with a base pay band of 75k entry - 135K plus 15% STI that requires minimal skills (data visualization, SQL, statistics and experience in info delivery platforms) and can't find people.

I'm not a labor expert, but I think there has been a sea change in what people think they need to live, are getting out of the rat race, whatever... but it's a big change. I have a team in India and I'm literally offering to double their pay and still not able to keep them, because it's happening there also. All is anecdotal to me, but you ask anyone, anywhere, and I'd say everyone is having trouble finding employees.

For fun, look at unemployment of the years.

I started like way early. Got interested in coin collecting when the silver market crashed in the late 70's. I bought silver between $3.75 and $7.50 an oz for like 15 years. I rent a nice little 2 bedroom apt, in small rural town. Comes with internet, cable, electric is the only utility. I really couldn't be happier, get to see the grandkids do their sports and stuff. Yeah, your reading comprehension is bad and your understanding of economics is worse. Why is the rate not high enough with such a high unemployment rate these days? OH, cold it have something to do with the government interfearance with the market to artificially inflate wages through rampant deficit spending on a never ending slave stipend to buy votes under the guise of "helping people cope"? Why yes, it does and stupid people such as yourself think it's a cute idea and compassionate until you have to pay more for everything, your wages don't go up, your taxes do go up and then you cry about letting the people keep more of what they earn.

And the concepts of Capitalism are fine... it is fucked up because the Government - which is supposed to ensure that small business, big business, owner and worker are all conducting business fairly...

Currently, and for years, and on both sides.. our elected officials have been fucking it up and taking handouts tilting the system in favor of one over the other...

I never understood people that scream and yell about business people, running their businesses, under the rules the Government makes... should be yelling at the Politicians who tell you people need to "pay their fair share"... the Politicians are the ones fucking it all up... and somehow the masses fall for it.

I totally agree that the clinton/bush parties have fucked it up badly.

I'm not a socialist, i'm a capitalist that would rather see socialism over fascism if we aren't going to be capitalist. A business owner has a moral obligation to his/her employees, this used to be a part of business ethics that was abandoned in the late 80's early 90's.

If you're willing to take the fall that switching to true capitalism will be, I suggest you buckle up, it will be hell on earth. If you're unwilling to take that leap, we're not doing corporate bailouts this time.

You literally said what I did, just in a different way.

Edit: Analogy time.. Government should like the referee in any sporting match. Ensure the rules are enforced fairly. Allow the players to play (Capitalism). Those with more skill/ability will do better. Those that do not have the same ability will do okay. But the refs should make sure neither side is cheating, and everyone understands the rules... A record 4.3 million people quit their jobs in August, evidence of the considerable leverage workers have in today's economy.

About 2.9% of the workforce quit in August, up from 2.7% in July, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report, released Tuesday. That marks the highest quit rate since the report began in late 2000.

Lot of places already have a sales tax. And who do you think would benefit more from a tax on consumption? The poor or the rich? The poor have to spend most of their money just to survive, while the rich only have to spend a very small fraction just to enjoy life. Do you even give things any real consideration? Or do you just spout random nonsense that makes you feel good? We also likely wouldn't be able to get enough money on taxing consumption alone, so where would you make up the deficit?

Consuming less is virtuous.

Forcefully taking ones labor....is slavery, I thought we were over that.

The rich, what they don't consume they will obviously invest. The money they invest helps sprout growth in the economy, at least that's what I have been told by capitalists.

The government interfearance in the labor market is going to be damaging for decades, hurt far more poor people than it helped and is decimating small business. Congratulations on supporting the largest corporate subsidy ever.

The unemployment rate is almost back to what it was pre-covid19. So yes, your brother just isn't paying enough. Arguing to the majority is a logical fallacy. The rest is simply you being retarded. Minimum wage laws are racist and destructive to the economy and only serve to drive inflation. The complaint is government medaling in the market which IS a pretty Socialist thing.

So first off- minimum wage laws are neither racist nor destructive. They're actually generally quite good for the economy- as evidenced by the cities and states who have increased minimum wage over the last decade or so. There are countries without minimum wage laws, but you wouldn't want to live in any of them.

Secondly, Capitalism is NOT the same thing as "free market". There's a reason why the phrase "free market capitalism" exists. Because it's not the only approach to capitalism (it's also not our approach to it in the US). You're equating capitalism with libertarianism and socialism with regulation.

You are factually incorrect. Please educate yourself on these concepts.

Yea, Minimum wage laws are racist. So, a little bit of history since you are both wrong and ignorant to no one's surprise. When minimum wage laws were enacted, black people had a lower unemployment rate than white people and law makers wanted to change that. So, they came up with a minimum wage so that people would hire white people since, in the parlance of the day "For that money, you can hire a white person." Read a fucking book.

Next you talk about how they are beneficial and that is also just wrong. minimum wage laws stifle employment, drive inflation and adversely hurt the poor and young. Your assertion that you don't want to live places without minimum wage laws is asinine since Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark and Switzerland are all pretty decent countries to live in despite the fact that Sweden has some Muslim ghettos shitting on the country so your assertion is flatly wrong and ignorant.

Increasing minimum wages create a stable, robust amount of inflation that is good for them economy. 2-2.5% inflation on average creates earnings for companies who occasionally kick them down in increased wages.

It's when there's no minimum wage increases and spending power decreases that causes major issues with the non-luxury retail economy. Less disposable earnings for workers means lower consumer confidence and less industry supporting spending.

Minimum wages force companies to pay living wages that in turn help, not hinder the economy.

Ok, so what you are missing is that the increase of minimum wage drives inflation and doesn't combat it. In every case, an increase in minimum wage results in a similar increase in consumer prices over a very short period of time. The second fact you miss is that minimum wage laws reduce employment because employers cannot offer as many jobs even to those willing to work for lower wages because they are forced to pay more We saw this in action in Seattle where an increase in wage caused a significant increase in unemployment and loss of small businesses but hey, let's keep trying to sell your law based on flawed emotional arguments that have long been disproved. The myth you keep perpetuating, beyond the lie that minimum wage fights inflation, is that people are out there supporting families on minimum wage jobs which is a lie and changing minimum wage laws doesn't change that lie either.

Next to covid, which we don't really know how covid will end, the credit default swap bailouts are the biggest heist of public tax dollars in human history.

The bank bailouts wouldn't have been nearly as evil if the home buyers kept the homes.

Well the food shortages has started to hit my area. Went to the store today and an entire frozen aisle was almost completely empty and what food was left was at least 1 dollar more expensive than I last remember paying.

And no, Seran, they didn't remove all of the frozen food to clean the freezers, the food was just gone.

And also no, Seran, this isn't Trump's fault, this is 100% on Biden. But I'm sure you'll blame Trump somehow anyways.

I don't care what side of the aisle you're on, no one can watch that and think Biden is not compromised. He is not all there, and that should scare every citizen.

Regardless of what you thought of Trump, compare his mental engagement in much more hostile media environments versus Biden in "softball" settings, and it's absurdly obvious.

I think figured out what they're trying to do though... get him to at least FEB 2023. If a VP is to assume the Presidency, and there is under 2 years left on that term of office... the individual can then run for the next 2 full terms. If the VP assumes the office with more than 2 years remaining, they can only run for 1 full term of office following it.... due to the 10 year maximum limit on any individual holding the office of the President.

How the fuck did our citizenry become so fucking partisan that we've let this happen. /sigh

Problem with your theory is: Kamala Harris is the Vice President.

She's disliked on both sides of the isle. She was one of the first candidates to be forced out during the primaries.

She hasn't done herself any favors while VP either.

That may have been their intention and plan.. but once they selected Kamala Harris.. it all went to shit.

They will get him to 2024.. but he won't be able to run for re-election and they will once again bring on the same clowns as last time.

Nope...not with Kamala Harris. She does not have the skills to be President (or even Vice-President, but that can be handled).

If something happens to Biden and Kamala Harris becomes President, it will be a disaster. Even many Democrats understand this situation. I hope they have a plan.

Biden doing something positive in this respect would be if he managed to get the price of oil below what it was when he took office, and not because he completely fucked over the economy.

"Democracy is deteriorating across the world, with countries notably taking undemocratic and unnecessary actions to contain the coronavirus pandemic, an intergovernmental body said in its new report Monday."

"The 34-nation organization added that as of August 2021, 64% of countries have taken an action to curb the pandemic that it considers “disproportionate, unnecessary or illegal."

"In its flagship report on the state of democracy, International IDEA said the number of backsliding democracies has doubled in the past decade, and mentioned in particular the United States, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia."

Oil prices have taken a 10% dip from their 30-day high largely due to leadership of President Biden just in time for our entry into the Christmas buying season. Absolutely nobody should be shocked that oil prices are falling after the president asked for a review of potentially criminal practices of price-fixing and collusion within the industry.

So I haven't looked into much as to why gas prices are supposedly going down (the lower prices sure as shit haven't hit the gas stations near me) but from what I read a big reason seems to be because Austria is implementing a China virus lockdown and the market fears more lockdowns are coming.

"Oh but this is thanks to Biden's leadership because he said some words!"

Sadly, due to poor policies and management... this fucker is actually using our Strategic Reserves to bring down oil prices in the States. Those reserves are supposed to be in dire emergencies... a political clusterfuck of their creation is not a dire emergency in my opinion.

They could have not done what they've done over the past 10 months to cause this... they could increase domestic production, they could increase/continue development on the pipelines that they've shut down, etc.

Instead... they're going to raid the stockpiles we have for political gain.

This sound familiar?

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-oil-obama/obama-takes-flak-for-tapping-emergency-oil-reserves-idUSTRE75M44D20110623

"The Obama administration was also concerned about tight markets ahead of peak demand in the summer, when many Americans take to the roads for vacations. The jump in gasoline prices earlier this year was hurting Obama’s support as the White House was gearing up for its re-election campaign."

Bad policies? No problem, just use up the strategic reserves. Can't have people realizing our policies suck. Election season coming up! This is a broken fucking record, and people keep falling for it.

And for those that claim "it's covid!".. it was covid all last year also.. there was just a different administration.

Gas prices are up almost 4% after Biden's stunt of releasing oil from the strategic reserve earlier today, and remember Seran has admitted that Biden is "largely responsible" for the cost of oil. So, Seran, when are you going to reimburse everyone for the economic damage you have now admitted your vote is causing?

Funny is if in 6 months oil prices do drop by 20% or something there will be Seran saying dumb shit like "You should thank Biden for saving you money!" even though it will take years of "low" gas prices to make up for all of the economic damage his policies have already cost poor and middle class Americans.

Do you ever get tired of hyperbole? I mean literally, you almost never have anything of substance to say, can barely drool out a complete sentence and have yet to support an argument.

Meanwhile, oil futures in 2022 have dropped sharply, the three year forecast is 3-5 dollars a barrel cheaper in average, while the ten year contracts are $25 dollars a barrel less. Only after Biden issued his executive order to have the FTC investigate illegal price gouging and market manipulation.

Meanwhile, Republicans and certain morons here on the forum are frothing at the mouth that the President has actually followed through with taking the sole actions available for the President to affect oil and gasoline prices. Almost as if they and Dreaven don't want prices to go down or the country to see relief.

Meanwhile the energy secretary pointed out on prime time news that over 25 million acres of leased land was available for leasing and almost ten thousand drilling permits have been issued. All of which are not being utilized by the oil industry who are withholding supply to keep prices high.

Did you even bother to read my post? 25 million federal land leases and near 10 thousand drilling permits are active and not being utilized. So no, Biden didn't stop anyone from drilling.

Biden issued an executive order halting the expansion of the Keystone pipeline that would have roughly doubled the throughout of the EXISTING pipeline, by adding a second run. As of right now, the Keystone pipeline is capable of pumping almost 600,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta Canada, to ports in Texas. The existing Keystone pipeline isn't being used at capacity now because of fields being idled. But the argument that adding a second pipeline to the Keystone XL lowering the price of oil is as stupid as the argument that oil companies have any interest in restoring flows of their idled wells to increase available oil on the market. The oil companies DO NOT WANT THE PRICE OF OIL TO GO DOWN. Go to Oilprice.com and you can see just how heavily API analysts are trying to downplay the coordinated release of oil reserves internationally. Goldman Sachs alone is doing most of the screaming about it, because their short position on oil futures causes them to lose money with the price of oil dropping.

"Black People Are Leaving Chicago en Masse. It’s Changing the City’s Power Politics."

You think these writers understand how racist they are? How the concept of "race specific wards" is antithetical to the whole concept of the United States (one that it's tried to work towards for generations).

"But the Black and Latino caucuses agree on one thing: It’s also time to create an Asian-focused ward given that the city’s Asian population has increased to nearly 7 percent in the past 10 years. The most concentrated area of Asian residents is now split between two wards represented by white and Latino aldermen.

Calabrese argues that changes like those taking place in West Englewood show that the Black Caucus map is out of touch with Chicago’s current population trends. The Latino Caucus’ map, he said, “reflects the reality of Chicago demographics today.”

Fucking sad people have let the Politicians, money brokers, and mainstream media make people think this way - in this day and age... and they don't seem to realize they are willfully "segregating" themselves and other races from each other. /sigh

Edit: Oh.. and it's not "whitey" now... it's Latino's too... "He argues that the Latino Caucus map disenfranchises the city’s Black population by diluting their power; he says he’s ready to take the map his caucus supports and that was “developed by two-thirds of the members of the City Council” to voters."

All races keeping every other race down. People need to get out of this race hustling business.. shit never stops.. just like "cancel culture" will always get to you if left unchecked.

Letting him? Heh. No. Encouraging, sure. Commanding? Sometimes. Begging? We haven't gone there yet but it's not off the table. And I'd say I'm the least easily pleased of the three :ohshit:

"Biden signs executive order on climate change to require net-zero emissions from federal government by 2050"

"The federal government would also switch to 100 percent zero-emission vehicle acquisitions by 2035, including 100 percent zero-emission light-duty vehicle acquisitions by 2027. The reason for the two different timelines is that some specialized vehicles used by the military and agencies like the U.S. Forest Service may not be available in fully electric models in the next six years."

Seriously need to start asking Russia and China to start building some recharging stations, so our men and women in service can recharge their electric HMWWVs. I seriously wonder what the fuck these people are thinking.

They're all or nothing approach is fucking asinine.. hybrid technology is the way to go.. but the "green green green" nutcases just like hearing pretty words strung together.

Okay, I stopped watching the first guy because he was being an insufferable twat just like the ones we have here in the USA. He was trespassing on private property that has a mask requirement. I'm making that assumption because that's what all the anti-maskers here do for attention.

ELSEWHERE, POLICE IN GERMANY REPORTEDLY DETAIN THIS WOMAN FOR NOT HAVING A VACCINE PASSPORT
That's the next video.
>reportedly
>video is in German with no captions

....okay, sure. I guess that happened. But back to the first guy...

He started to say that he was exempt, just like the anti-maskers here in the USA do. He may be! Sadly for him, that's not the way health exemptions work! If he had an exemption, he still wouldn't be able to enter private property. A business would be required to serve him if he had a legitimate medical issue, but that still doesn't mean they have to let him in the store.

Stores in my city, during its mask mandate, accommodated people who didn't have a mask by letting them wait and pay at the door for goods. That meets the requirements for any and all medical exemptions here.

No matter what you may believe, stores DON'T want to turn away customers. The ones that get arrested at the ones that force themselves into the situation and act like children because they can't handle putting a piece of cloth over their face for 20 minutes. He didn't get arrested for not wearing a mask, he got arrested for committing the crime of trespassing.

Edit: Just saw that the DC is Tucker Carlson's network. GROSS. I'm going to go boil my eyes to get the disgusting Tucker out of them.

I agree, that cop who didn't even have his mask on correctly while giving other people shit about masks despite the other guy's medical exemption is indeed an insufferable twat.

I'm glad we agree on this, and that you also believe that that cop who had his mask on incorrectly while giving the other guy shit about masks despite the other guy's medical exemption is an insufferable twat.

Yeah it's a lil sideways right now.

Amazon seems to be enjoying it.

Imagine being an artist trying to put food on the table, dropping an album this year and six months later people still don't have the physical copies they paid for. Obviously there are 1,000,000 ways that more critical goods and services are being delayed with real life and death consequences. But still. Maybe that's why Kendrick aint droppin.

Imagine you just opened a small dine-in restaurant with no drive thru in 2019.

Well at least one thing that's come from all this crap is a new renaissance of art and music from all the folks that got pandemic unemployment. I know one of my favorite Soundcloud producers put out two albums during the pandemmy.

Amazon has paid for priority service for local delivery and hires its own drivers for a lot of its warehouse stock. Meanwhile, Pharmacy A has to compete for space for its OTC medications, with Industry A who is stocking up on wheel barrel tires, Industry B backordered windshield brackets, and Retailer A whose stocking up on oak end tables.

Everyone is backfilling inventory and that doesn't account for the number of regional logistics hubs overfilled with retailers who leave goods at Port and only take final delivery when they're absolutely out.

Smart companies pay for better logistics solutions, everyone else competes.

This forum is largely unmoderated, and by largely I mean that it is unmoderated. If it crashes, someone might come moderate. If someone abuses the forum in such a way that it affects users access to it, someone might come moderate. But otherwise, there's no moderation.
