a small sand elemental. Lives in a pale crystal shard. Trained not to do bad things, not so trained to actually do useful things as yet, though it's pretty good at morphing shape:

Delving deeply into the elemental, you get a sense that it isn't very good at carving, isn't very good at holding objects, isn't very good at digging, isn't very good at creating a sandstorm, and is very good at morphing.

Also, it appears that it is very well-disciplined about flaying a hand, is very well-disciplined about hiding, is very well-disciplined about misbehaving, and is fairly disciplined about casting quakes.

From the Wavedancer. Trainable to do fun things (http://gsguide.wikia.com/index.php?title=Sand_Elementals), like dig random objects out of the sand and carve smooth stones into interesting shapes (which will work as runestones):

>push elem
You move your hand to give your sand elemental a little push.

The sand elemental leaps out of your hands and sifts down into the loose sand spiraling like a miniature cyclone to drill its way down until it can no longer be seen.

Suddenly, the sand elemental bursts from the ground and swirls right back up into your hand spitting forth a once-elegant cracked glass onto the ground from the center of its whirling vortex!

>get stone
You remove a smooth stone from in your snow white pouch.
>put stone on elem
You place your stone over the coursing, swirling sands of the elemental, attempting to spark its interest.

The sand elemental extends a sandy tendril and snatches the stone from your grasp, then engulfs it into its shifting mass. Tiny whorls of flame chase across its surface as it hovers in the air, spinning rapidly and pulsating ever-quicker as the stone within its heart is ground and spun.

The sand elemental stops its frantic twirling, and slowly extends one of its tendrils as it finishes its shaping, placing a dark-swirled pock-marked crystal in your hand.

7m or $55 flat.
