Thinking about getting a new computer, but only looking to spend around 800 or less.

I don't need a monitor, or a keyboard. I plan on buying a new ergonomic keyboard so a package deal isn't necessarily my thing. Though if I do get a second monitor I'm likely to get a dual monitor card and just use both, so who knows.

Anyway, any suggestions on what to buy, where to look, or what to look for in a new computer?

Are you going to build your own or are you buying it factory built?

I work at Best Buy and you won't really get a great deal on just a tower. If you go tower monitor and printer you can get some damn good deals because of mail-in rebates.

If not, I think Dell has some pretty solid machines for cheap in their like business section(not home those are the shitty cheap ones). You have to put a better graphics card in it for it to game, but other than that you can get a solid processor, RAM, and memory cheap.

That is just my opinion from what I have seen lately.

What's the primary purpose for your computer?

Decent computer, Nakiro. I haven't heard of the name brand - but if you're planning on doing any heavy gaming - you'll need to upgrade the video card.

If you do check out Dell - go to their "Small Business" area instead of "Dell Home". Better, less frilly deals. Dimension 4700 is probably the area you'd want to look at.

Just a heads up - I would check prices at those companies with *and* without Tayre's discount.

My company gives me a discount (5-10%) on Dell. But I found if I go through the link that will give me the company discount - It no longer allows me to get the mail-in rebates, and it wasn't cheaper.

Can you deliver overseas Tayre? :D

I'd build one Nakiro. Then its alot cheaper, and generally alot better.

FYI, Insignia is a best buy made computer. They tend to be a little cheaper because there is no middle man. I don't really know about quality because we don't carry many in the store I work at.

I actually bought an Insignia from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. I had to upgrade the video card, but aside from that the computer is great. I got a great deal on it because it was an older model that they no longer had on the floor. Just to compare, it was about 300 dollars cheaper than had I bought a computer from Dell with near the same specs.

*edited to add that I got that same computer that you linked to and it works great. I also paid about 120 bucks less than that.

I mainly want to be able to play some of the newer games on it like WoW and maybe Halflife 2, but more often I'd be using it for everyday necessities (AIM, email, boards, etc).

Everday stuff, no problem.

Want to play those games effictively, then you will have to throw some dough into a video card.

I also found WoW to still slow my comp. down even with 512 RAM. I upgraded to 712 RAM (I have 2 slots of 256 so I bought one 512) and it seems to work a bazillion times better.
