View Full Version : Design Program

I have a particular design that I wish to translate onto my computer using some kind of design package. Now I'm hoping that this package be both free and easy to use, as I've been having a nightmare with things like Paint Shop Pro and such.

If this cannot be done, I will probably be offering a small some of money for someone to convert my design into a JPEG or GIF using their own computer skills and programs.

Can anyone recommend anything for me?

Scanner and Photoshop. Problem is I'm not sure how great resolution is with most scanners if it's an intricate design.

I don't want to just scan it. Imagine I have an image on paper, with the specifications of size and dimension, that I want to draw correctly via a CAD program.

If anyone is proficient in Paint Shop Pro, I'm going to offer $50 for them to translate an image I can send, to an image in Paint. What I need is an image I myself can manipulate in Paint, including changing colours. I just need the basic shape of this thing made.

I could probably do it in Photoshop, I'd sort of like to see what it looks like before I make a commitment though.

Nien is having a pop at it at the moment. Thanks though Artha ;)

I’ll do it for free.

Ah if you needed something cad drawn I woulda done it, I'm tired of floor plans, sections, and elevations anyway. Hope it works out for you.

Alright, to take the pressure of Nein, and to gain a different perspective on things, I'll post it all here.

Basically the brief is to translate these pencil drawn images to a file that I can manipulate via a design package (so I can mess with colour and shape etc).

The image was too large for my scanner, so I've had to do it in two parts:

Hope someone can help.

You need serious postscript software. Like Adobe Illustrator. Or layout software like Quark or Adobe ImageReady (PageMaker).

I do have access to Quark. It will just mean drawing it out again, which is something I am seriously noobish at when it comes to design programs, heh. I'll give it a blast.

I could do that up in a Quark 5 file. But looking at it now... yeah, $50 US. (chump change in today’s market)

Whats it for?

My friend wanted me to design for him the basic "chasis" of a touch-screen program he's developing. He's only just requested in in a computer format which I'm trying desperately to get to him.

If you can do it in a Quark format, you can have the $50. I'd just like to be able to open it up, and fuck around with the colours, and shapes etc. :D

Oh yeah, and it has a scale which is impossible to see on that picture: 3200mm lengthwise, by 2400mm depth.

Quark 5 File (http://www.zendada.com/images/Document1.zip)

Its at 1/4 size. 800 mm by 600 mm.

So, when I put this on Quark, I can edit the actual shapes and such, change and add colour?

Yes, but you need Quark to open that file

I have the newest version. I presume that can do it?

Hmm, for some weird reason, it can't be opened by Quark. The version I am using is 6.1. Any ideas?

Why not just do it in MS Excel? That way you have your grid, you can do "snap-to" stuff, colorize, and port to PaintShop if that floats your boat. You can get exact dimensions without having to do the measuring, since Excel does all the size computations for you. It can also be converted to VB, so that the programmer can create command buttons from whichever of those boxes he wants. From there, the VB (or hell, even Access if he's into torture) can (usually) be ported to whatever program he's using to make it a touch-screen.

The file I linked is .zip so you may need to add that extention to the file after download, unzip, then open with Quark. Its a Quark 5 file.

Or, you may need to add the extention .qxp if your browser auto unzipped it.

If it dosen’t work let me know and I’ll email it to you directly.

Hmm, my paint program doesn't even have any colour changing options. Sodding program is rubbish.
