Best series of movies ever made.

About a couple of the best books ever written. =)

I own both on DVD and have seen each at least 10 times.

I can't wait for Return of the King. :o

-grays/d

PS- movies still aren't as good as the books.

The movies were both good, I thought. I usually do not go to films, as I do not enjoy them and prefer to read books.

You my baby.

I think I'll watch the battle for Helm's Deep tonight, since my apartment is sadly devoid of women.

The final combat is so... disapointing...

I hate it so much when 1000 vs 100,000 are somewhat doing ok... and 4 people CHANGE IT TOTALY.

Anyone knew that gay elf was going to be deeded? the fat one?

Not too disappointing when you consider the factors, really.

Aragorn is an amazing, charismatic leader.
They had a group of Elven archers.
Gimli is a dwarf. No further explanation needed.
Orcs, while tough, aren't organized, tactical fighers.
The fortress was reputed for being defendable. Sieges have historically been lost despite massively lopsided numbers.
A majority of the orcs weren't even dead when Gandalf, an immortal, came with reinforcements and whipped ass.

LOTR is great for a lonely night of movie watching.

Aragorn leader?

Hmm, i didn't see the same movie as you, because Aragorn did one leader move or so, when he told em to fire their arrows, then to charge... beside that, was not that group melee fights...

They had a group of Elven archers.

yeah, like 40, and half of em got killed in the first wave by crossbow+tower orcs

Gimli is a dwarf. No further explanation needed.

Gimli was one, orcs were 100,000

Orcs, while tough, aren't organized, tactical fighers.

Those were super-orcs, orouk-hai or whatever you spell it. Better, badder, tougher

Forteress got ripped off in 2 about in the half of the fight, no?

For Gandalf, nothing can't be said against him, beside charging Awl pikes orcs with a staff, and his horse got NO wounds,... eh, yeah right?

The elven archers were still a major factor, though, as they never miss. Say there were 40 left standing... every shot they get off is just stacking up corpses.

And as I mentioned before, Gandalf is IMMORTAL, and, though I can't remember exactly where I read it, I believe his horse is actually supernatural in some manner or the other.

Even with a hole blown in the fortress walls, there's still only a few positions to defend. It wasn't like an open field battle. No flanking was possible.

An orc is an orc is an orc. No tactics.

STORY WISE SPEAKING, it was a good battle. Although i feel it could had been better...

It's like the fight when boromir got deeded... Aragorn in the POSITION he was, could had been killed 1000 times, as like when he fights the nazgul with his short toothpick and his torch..

Hope the 3 will be better

I'll be my nerdz and tell you that orc of middle earth aren't orcs of dungeon/gemstone

they are INTELLIGENT, bad, strong and MILLITARIST

No damn races could run 3 days WITHOUT STOPING and be whipped out 2 days later in that big battle

I think 1+1=2, when you praise a race, don't shit on it the next story

A lot of what goes on in the movie, and in the LOTR books... is explained in The Simarillion...

Read all three books, then the Silmarillion, then watch the movies, the full uncut versions.

Orcs in Middle Earth are cunning, but extremely stupid. If they have no instructions they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paperbag.

Orcs were once elves, corrupted by Morgoth.

The orcs numbered 10,000, not 100,000.

Aragorn acts as an inspirational role rather than a leadership role. The true king of Gandor, a living legend thought dead.

The only thing the orcs had going for them was the fact that they were Uruk-hai.

10,000 Uruk-hai were noted by Saruman to be enough to take Helm's Deep. Helm's Deep had never fallen to a seige in all of it's history.

Saruman did not count on what remained of the fellowship or a last alliance between men and elves. Throw Gandolf with an entire calvary of horsemen into the mix and the odds are no longer even.

As awesome as the battle for Helm's Deep was, it will look like a GS duel compared to the battle for Middle Earth in the last movie. ::swoons::

The actors of the movie all said the third movie will be better than the other two combined. Even though that's a somewhat charged statement (coming from the cast itself), those are some pretty tough words. I hope they're right.
