Mage rechargeable orb gems

Is there a way to find out if a blank orb gem is mage rechargeable other than having a bard sing to it?

Loresing is the easiest way that I know, no orb to touch to check like enchant.

Other than imbedding something into the gem and trying to recharge it, no.
