View Full Version : NPC's cheat.

Here's a log from last night. For those of you don't know, when you attack one of the 'good' guys that are 'defending' a town, then every other 'good' guy will turn on you. I must have accidentally hit one of them, because the next thing I knew I was getting swung at 100's of times by these 'good guys'. So, naturally, I decided to kill them. What I didn't expect to happen was that I would learn sufficiently from them (I'm level 100, remember). So I started to slaughter them all.

I was wondering by invisible, and I went into the NPC Ablen's room. He was telling everyone to be on guard for me. Then he used his cheating abilities to try and take me out.

Now what I did, I did for a reason. Obviously, none of the people in the room wanted to help me, as they all just stood there and watched. You KNOW if I had just killed Ablen straight out, at least ONE of the people would have attacked me. So, I took them all out. Haahaa. Well, most of them.

[Marshtown Road]
A weed-infested jumble of weather-worn rocks at the break of the riverbank marks where a bridge spanned the Cairnfang long ago. Across the river, the blue granite walls of Vornavis' north wall dwarf the roofs, tents, and low stone wall of the caravansary. You also see some rumpled damask gloves, a wooden arrow, a wooden arrow, a wooden arrow and a wooden arrow.
Obvious paths: east, west

Almost hidden among the tall grasses, brush, and young trees north of the road, charred timbers and blackened chimney stones show that farms and cottages once spread north of the river. You also see a wooden arrow.

[Cairnfang Crossing, North]
Black flies cover the dessicated remains of several criminals who ran afoul of the law one too many times. The stench of death and decay, as well as the ghastly, slack-jawed visages of the eyeless corpses keeps passersby a healthy distance from the gibbets. Bearing almost as much traffic as the road south across the bridge, although of a decidedly more squalid strain, a well-worn dirt road heads west. You also see a deliberate human templar, a dusky mastiff, an iced orange muffin, some ephlox moss, a massive ironwood tower and the Hangman's Bridge.

The trail and the ancient, piled stone markers that pierce the river's surface are soon the only signs that intelligent life has passed this way before. To the west, the trail appears more used as it follows the Cairnfang towards the cliffs above Solhaven Bay. You also see the Kadesha disk, a wooden arrow, a wooden arrow and a wooden arrow.

I like Cryheart and have no personal opinion about Kadesha, but know that many others do. I think the name Devareeree is silly. And I have always wondered why people would actually wear those silly titles around. Making title at 20 used to be something to look forward to years ago - but unless my character was old as dirt and not an empath - I would never consider turning on such a title.

How do you figure that? I was obviously 50+ levels higher than most of the people I killed (and if you'll take notice, it didn't seem to affect Kadesha at all, and we're the same age. Had it cold-cocked her, your statement would be true).

Ergo, wipe that smiley face off the end of your sentence, as you obviously have no such justification for the statement.

Both times you pwned him/his friends, and both times I've felt you were in the right. But if you did something before these logs, then it could be different.

Perhaps "over" powered was a bad word. How about more powerful than any other attack spell in the game? Overpowered would be an opinion... most powerful would be mostly based on fact.

Implosion is the most powerful attack spell in the game. Period.

Honestly, yes, Implode is a powerful spell. But so is bascily every single CMAN skill in the game when used on a sorcerer. Its all a matter of surprise, and first strike. If you don't like being imploded, stop messing with Sorcerers.

Every class has their nitch. Sorcerers is mass distruction. WE RIP A HOLE IN THE VERY FABRIC OF SPACE for gods sake. Of course your going to die.

But guess what? One cut with a knife..and we can't do squat. One sweep, one tackle, one feint..it all plays out the same.

more. Bitch deserves it.

Only sorcerors are tired of hearing about it, or wary about admitting to the truth of it. CMAN's aren't the equivalent of an implosion...they have an inherent 5% fumble chance AND they don't work 100% of the time. At least, in my experience, if I try to hamstring a like level pure, I'm going to need to roll better than a 30-40 to accomplish anything.

It's not like sorcerors are invulnerable or anything, but anyone familiar with game mechanics knows that implosion is by far the most unbalanced ability in the game.

Regarding NPC's, yes they do cheat. I've died to countless of their dirty tricks, and my first instinct was always to complain about what cheap bastards they are. But then I thought about what a cheating bastard I was while using hiding, haste, imbeds, etc. while I was fighting them. I think it's usually a contest to see who can use the cheapest tricks (like open imploding to automatically knock everyone down regardless of level for 12 seconds).

For all the complaining about people saying implode is overpowered..I sure don't see a lot of use in it hunting. Hell, I can't even vap critters like level 50% of the time, yet my warrior can use his CMANs with a 95% effective hit ratio!

Implode, along with all skills, spells, and what have you is NOT measured for PvP. PvP is not a driving point of GS. If you wanna fight other people, deal with the problems.

I can't take the rest of your post seriously when you start with a statement like that. For a warrior to use his CMAN
s with a 95% effective hit ratio, he'd have to be able to roll a 6 on the open roll and still succeed.

I think you are experiencing the old "grass is always greener" complex.

If you really need to compare something to CMAN's, it's nearly identical to the square's ability to ward off a spell from a like aged pure.

Hehe, so here we have a guy who is killing the scouts/medics etc. that are sent to Solhaven to HELP the citizens against Morvule and his horendous army. Granted, you swing at one once, even if by mistake and the entire army of scouts is after you. But in all reality, were they to know you killed one of theirs by accident? It's a war for crying otu loud, they are NOT nor should they, stop and say "HEY DID YOU MEAN TO KILL OUR FELLOW COMRADE BILL? OH YOU DIDN'T? OH OKAY THEN, OUR BAD, WE WILL LET THAT ONE SLIDE AND TELL HIS FAMILY THAT IT WAS AN ACCIDENT! THANKS!!!!"

I mean come on, all of their reactions to you guys are within the RP of the game and very realistic. And to be honest, they stop after a while, I don't know how long it is exactly a few hours at least but they do stop attacking you.

Secondly, yes the NPC's actions are out of the context of normal game mechanics. But he's a Paladin of Phoen who I'm going to assume has been sent personally be Phoen to help us in this cause just like Ulstram or Kendryth or Shae would be sent to us. So damn, guess what? You should expect him to be more powerful then normal players just like Morvule is and any other NPC would be. And if you go up against a more powerful person in Elanthia, such as :gasp: a Paladin of Phoen or the High Priest of Luukos, you should EXPECT them to use other means that you or any of us could have access to, to anihilate your ass for trying to or suceeding in killing him.

Now, as far as the entire room being taken out, I found it to be perfectly acceptable personally. You're right, JD, they didn't try to help you and in fact they helped Ablen and as such, when you retaliated, you were well within your rights to take them out using whatever means you had at your disposal. Ablen coming to you afterwards to tell you in a GM'sh sort of way to stop was in my opinion completely retarded. It's all RP and up till that point, I felt he had RP'd it out with you perfectly.

Just as a side thought, in the beginning of your log he is saying to the others that you were taking out his scouts, which you admitted to doing after you realized they were getting you experience. Hence, that right there, gave Alben EVERY reason possible to have an issue with Jenovadeath.

My opinion? Suck it the hell up, everyone involved, deal with the consequences of your actions towards each other and the scouts in the fields and take it as part of the RP of conflict. If you don't wanna be involved, then stop starting shit.

I was refering to your "5% fail chance". So, the reverse is a 95% chance of the skill working (if you hit or not is not involved).

Also, Spells have the same thing. I have a spell failure. *shrug* I fail to see your point.

As for the grass is greener thing..actually you got that backwards. I don't really care who has what. The reason I brought up the CMANs was because people always bitch about implode being unstoppable. Well, guess what? CMAN's are unstopable when used on a pure. We don't have the CM's or the Dodge to hope to defend vrs them. Our only hope is our spells, and a lucky first strike, which if you've been following my posts, is basicly the only hope of a square. Surprise, and a first strike.

Yeah, but even quoting the 5% fumble rate doesn't make it comparable to implosion and spell hindrance. Plus, you keep making these just flat-out wrong statements like "CMAN's are unstopable when used on a pure." I already told you, my character has to roll better than a 30 or 40 to successfully (101 endroll) use a CMAN against a like level pure. Many CMAN's "effectiveness" is based on the total endroll.

The imbalance you described is already taken care of for pures without spells like implosion.

Pures can't defend well against CMANs.
Squares can't defend well against CS attacks.

You could compare CMANs to implosions, IF there was a CMAN that I could learn at level 20 that would incapacitate a level 100 creature or player for 12 seconds... or that could kill a level 100 creature or player if it is stunned when the spell is cast. There is no such CMAN in case you were going to look it up, hehe.

Anyway, I doubt anyone is going to convince anyone else here. You just don't want to hear the truth! :saint:

Yeh, and these spells/skills are not ballanced and built for PvP. Why does it matter? If you live your life with a sword and shield..why pick a fight with someone who can hurl a huge fireball from a great distance? Or why would you charge head long into a battle with a sorcerer who can snap his fingers and cause the bones in your body to crumble? Its foolish.

Gemstone is not built around PvP. If you want fair PvP, play WoW.

Ah, I enjoyed that read. Thanks for typing that.

Although, I must point out that I was not mad at all that I died. I'm not sure where I came off sounding like that, but I was perfectly fine with the outcome (I nearly lived his cheat attack).

I didn't get in a scuffle with any of the people I killed afterward, so there was no reason to get upset, really. I was just seeing what everyone else thought on the situation -- and providing commentary.

And yet you're saying one of their leaders, Ablen, was in the wrong for attacking you? Are you that retarded? -- Rhett.

I think you need to go read the racism thread that Edaarin made, as your use of retarded is incorrect when implying it towards me, and could easily offen someone that has a sibiling whom is mentally handicapped. One could say, for example, that in the infant condition called 'cretinism', there is a characterization by marked retardation of growth. Compare that to your own example.

Furthermore, I don't recall saying he was in the 'wrong' for attacking me. I said he used a cheat maneuver to attack me while we were in different rooms. Perhaps you should unroll your pant legs, bleach your skin back to it's natural white color (you're not black, unfortunately), and learn to listen to 80's music. Rap lyrics just don't suit you, 'brother'.

Quite the conundrum...

On the one hand, I hate Lv 100 players strutting their stuff because they can, especially when that stuff is their ability to 435/720 everyone not also 100 then coming up with some lame excuse why they did it.

On the other, even if you did spend your time killing the medics, it is your right to do so. I'd be really curious to see what the Paladin actually said to you "in a GMish way" regarding killing a room full of people. He was both attacking you and dispelling you, what option would you have? Attack him directly? Fat chance. Not only would he kill you but all the lackeys would go after you too. You made a sound tactical decision given your skills, take out whomever you can and make an example of them.

I so hate the GSS, it is the only quest I've ever known of that makes me not want to log into the game becaus of all the idiotic and unnecessary drama associated with the undispellable invisible harassers, Hippyland mutual CvC requirements, and Enzyte commerical stars with something to prove.
