Today I missed a call on my phone. When I checked the caller ID the number was 305-675-6263. I know no one in the 305 area code, so I ran the number through google and this is what I found at a bullentin board. I am sure if this true but I thought I would warn those here anyway to be prudent.

[i]Canadian Telephone Scam

"recieved this from my brother Bob today.
The information is from the RCMP

Telephone scam: "$99 vacation"

La version française suit la version anglaise.

The Telephony Unit has been advised that many employees have received a
long-distance call (from 1-305-675-6263 or 567-3100) advising that they
have won a 5-day vacation for only $99. The recorded message asks the
winner to dial "9" to speak to an operator.

This is a scam. If you receive such a call, please hang up and do not
press 9. If you do, others will be able to make long-distance calls
from your telephone line and charges will be forwarded to your bill."

We thank you for your cooperation.[i]

How pathetic.. isn't it just easier to steal someone's cell phone when they aren't looking?

Scammers crack me up.. almost as much as the people who fall for them.

I got one of those phone calls today. Automated voice. Sounded terrible. I said, "You're not real!" and hung up, which is my usual policy when I deal with do not call list dodgers. The fact that it was that scam made it funnier.

Ew. I hate stuff like that. Even worse are the telemarketers who, when you pick up the phone, greet you with the recording, "Please hold. One of our representatives would like to speak with you and will be available shortly."

You're calling ME and putting me on hold right away!!?

Yeah. Unfortunately, I've been applying for jobs and having them call my home line... thereby shortcircuiting a lot of the useful features.
