Thank my holocaust studies class for once again giving me a brilliant idea! Ok, if you can, describe what your perfect society would be. Like.. the type of government, race, economy, political groups, language, etc...

I'd like to live somewhere quiet, that respects and holds aloft intelligence, integrity and honor about the $. Somewhere safe, warm, where I can learn, and be among others who wish to learn. Etc. Zen.

Communistic Anarchy, Japanese/Caucasian mix, kick ass economy, no politics, because the communism would rule above the people and basically form a bubble of limitations... within the bubble you could move freely (most would enjoy what they felt to be total freedom) but those who stepped far enough out of line to threaten prosperity of the set up would be exterminated painlessly and disposed of. We would all speak Japanese, Tokyo Area Dialect.

Mine is more strange... monarchy based government. Religion is similar to American Indian and the entire society focuses very much into life and respecting all different life around you. If you cut down a tree, you have to plant one. You can only cut down a certain amount and if you exceed it you're exiled. If you kill too many animals you are exiled. All families must hunt for their table and garden and yeah... you have to be self-sufficient and use all parts of what you kill.

Communism, ideally, would give everyone a job they were well suited for and the education to succeed in it. It would feed and clothe everyone. If the economy were really good, communism would ensure there were no homeless people... and within the communism, there would be anarchy... people'd do/say whatever they wanted to unless it threatened the prosperity of the society.

Exactly, that is stifling. If the state decides I am best for X job, what choice do I have if I want Y job? Or if I dont want to work, and I just want to paint or write or sing all day? Communism yes would clothe and give employment to the masses, but it would also destroy any sense of "self". Same wages. Same things to spend said wages on. Watch metropolis.

As for Anarchy...Who would monitor and administer punishment for those threatening the state? That isn't anarchy. Anarchy is at its fundamental politcal core, responsibility. An anarchic society would work due to trust. Being told what to do does not breed trust.

Anyway, the perfect society. Honestly, the only way I can see a perfect society is if humans would evolve a little, you know? Anything you try, its been tried. Tribes in the Amazon probably have it close... but humans are just too fucked up to get them all doing the same thing together.

I'm going to start another thread because your question makes me think of another question. And the answer to both is really the same. Unless we evolve in one way or another, there will never be a perfect society.

I've always thought the idea of a Republic was a good one. Also, I think Marx was a genius, if only it could be handled properly.

That’s really how I feel about Marx too... He was possibly the greatest thinker of all time but his theories have been misinterpreted and twisted by so many (Lenin, Stalin, Chairman Mao) and as a consequence Marxism has been given a bad name.
Handled in the way Marx and Engels intended I truly believe society could evolve into a much better place.

Conservative, strict (pure) Roman Catholicism. People are free to do what they want, when they want, within the law. Things like drug use (including cigarretes) would be prohibited, or limited (alcohol). Criminals would be dealt harsher punishments for violent crimes, and lighter punishments for non-violent, victimless crimes. The government would be a bi-partisan, with the leaders democratically elected. There would be rights the government could not infringe upon, and they would be about the same as the ones in the US. The society itself would be tolerant, free, and wealthy.
