What did everyone think? I thought it was fairly legit. I know some internet critic gave it a scathing review and said how boring it was, but I didn't find it boring at all. I initially judge all movies by whether it gets at least a 6 out of 10 on IMDB and have generally found that anything 6 or above is at least entertaining and worth watching. I didn't check before hand, but it's currently got a 6.7 on IMDB and I'd rate it at least that, if not maybe a bit higher.

Fantastic show. Unique byplay between the characters with an engaging story line. Yes the show is essentially Shadowrun made into a series, but they did an amazing job with it.

The story is cliche as fuck but does what it sets out to do pretty well as far as the world. Its as much Shadowrun as Barbed Wire or Johnny Mnemonic is.
Fun movie for what it is, don't look for anything amazing out of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's the first time I've seen a movie mesh a fantasy genre with gritty cop genre. They've already been booked for a sequel. Can't wait to see that.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Training Day with orcs and elves is like a mashup of two of my favorite genres. Not everything that has elements of race relations or social justice needs to be Oscar bait. People need to get over themselves.

I did want to see more of those FBI elves though. Fukken CSI Illistim.

Sequel in the works, tho...

I started it last night but I fell asleep halfway through, not because it was boring but because I had a long ass day. Going to finish it tonight. I enjoyed it so I was surprised at how bad the reviews have been. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a cult hit.

Yeah, the critics got it wrong.

I think the critics really dislike Will Smith.

I generally don't like him either, but I liked Bright in spite of him.

I didn't hate it. I like the idea, I think they could have done better though. I wish they'd made the orcs look more orc like... You know, size wise.

A lot of things could have been done better, IMO.

Waaaay too many stories and lore that could've have been developed as a Netflix show. Really enjoyed it but after seeing it I wanted a lot more and felt like it left too much open and undiscovered

I was going to make that same complaint until I decided to look at it in a different manner. Throwing out the cliche of following two prophesized warriors, it makes sense if you consider that most of the lore is considered mythical to maintain the status quo. Two random people suddenly thrown into extraordinary situations aren't going to be given all the answers. We as the viewers follow along and get to know about as much as they do.
There are some really inexcusably bad parts, like the scene at the end with the blooding ceremony out of nowhere? That felt cheesily stuck in to close a story arc in a rush. They just as well could have had a scene where the clan abducts him before or after the police ceremony and done something instead of how they did it. That whole ending felt chopped to fuck actually.
Finally, I don't think the lore would hold up to heavy exposition. It works better to just let it exist. The minute you start trying to explain how a world that has apparently always had all of these things still ended up in a modern day setting but with high fantasy races it all falls apart very quickly.

The currency in this show was Elans.

They were meant to be hints that the world is larger than just what was going on in New York (that's where it was, right?). I felt it was fairly well done, preferable to a 5 minute 'history of the world' at least.

How? By hiring larger actors, or by using camera tricks and special effects to create the illusion of size? Maybe there weren't good hulk-sized actors available for the roles, and maybe the producers didn't want to increase the movie budget by adding even more effects. I mean, I can easily see this movie being made into a TV series and the character looks would have to be sustainable for the long run so I can see why they stuck to just making a really great makeup for the orcs rather than using a bunch of digital wizardry. Besides, the acting is always better when there are two actual actors interacting in a scene and I thought the best parts of the movie were the ones between Smith's character and the rookie orc.

But you are right, a lot could have been done better, but I still enjoyed it and have high hopes for future movies or series in that world.

Camera effects, special effects, all sorts of ways. I picture orcs as being a lot larger than humans though.

I thought it was odd that critics have been hailing star wars as amazing while slamming bright. IMO star wars was equal parts frustrating and embarrassing and while bright isn't on my top 10 list I had a few laughs and somewhat enjoyed myself. Especially for being able to sit at home and netflix it.

Critics are too full of themselves. To borrow a little bit from one Violent Jay, if they know what's so dope they should make it themselves. Fuckin clowns (the critics!).

I didn't have any expectations, so I liked it, I thought some of the writing was especially funny, like when Will Smith was trying to intimidate the orcs and he said this:

I need you to take your fat Shrek-looking ass back to your vehicle and drive the f–k home to Fiona.

I thought so too. When the orc and Will Smith were talking at the beginning about the fact that Will Smith paid $400 for special cow shit to fertilize his yard but the orc tells him it was actually human shit he wasted his money on, the orc said...

Why do you think I compost?

That initial exchange told me at least it was going to be a fairly entertaining movie.

And that line at the very end where they got their asses kicked and WS says something about hating magic and Jakoby says:

I don't know, I still think it's pretty cool.

Was it an awesome movies, nope, but it was entertaining and that is all I want. From an acting and storyline perspective, it was WAY better than the Valerian movie, but that movie was worth seeing just for the special effects and CGI.

Lol, right, and I was just re-watching it now, and here's another good one...

Jakoby (orc) sniffing around the cop car when WS is just staring back to work after being shot...

Know what? You smell like you haven't slept. I have melatonin in my war bag. You take one before bed, turn off the laptop...

And I definitely agree with you on the acting and storyline being way better than Valerian. I knew that movie wasn't supposed to be great, but the only thing that remotely saved it was the special effects.
