Now that I have your attention, I was wondering what is really good for your skin in this cold weather. Between the heat in the house and the cold outside (plus regular washing of my hands) my hands are starting to look and feel like lobsters. I would like something that is not sticky or oily and that doesn't have a strong scent. (perfume type lotions give me a headache... I can stand natural scents better) Hands and lips are my main problem areas.

Any suggestions?

It's nothing fancy nor expensive. It's not greasy. It's not perfumed.

Vaseline Intensive Care with Aloe.

Oil of Olay lotion mixed with Vasoline intensive care (not the lotion).

I use Chapstick Ultra lip balm. Seems to work well for me. Also agree with Ravenstorm about the Vaseling Intensive Care with Aloe. It doesn't have a cloying odor, and works well as a moisturizer for my skin.

Heh, I have some of that sitting on my desk from when I had my last tattoo.

But thing is... I don’t have your problem, Vesi, and I don’t use lotions. So this begs the question. Are lotions really the solution?

Do all these absorb pretty good? I can't stand that sticky greasy feeling most lotions leave behind. I use straight aloe gel at night on my hands but that's not practical for the day.

Also, thanks for the offer of the use of your fingers Stanley. Think TN is a bit far from you for me to use your services though.

P. S. Home remedies I'm open to also.

Yeah... I figure the lips will be easier to keep soft than the hands.

Maybe you're just blessed with petal soft skin. I never had this problem when I was younger.

I have this problem too and I also use Vaseline Intensive Care.. I haven't noticed any greasy feeling left behind. For lips I use Carmex or Chapstick Medicated.

How about some heavy duty gloves for when you go outside? Or just some simple leather gloves.

I understand this is more about skin types but lotion dosen’t seem like enough? Oh I’ll just shut up because I know nothing about this.

I use Body Butter from Body Shop for arms legs and other areas. they have scented ones, but I just use the plain one. Oil of Olay for the face and Softlips by Mentholatum for the lips. You might want to give the softlips a try...my brother is like you and doesn't like anything greasy on his lips...he uses the softlips religiously since I told him about it.

If you can cope with the greasy oily feeling occasionally - buy some salt scrub or sugar scrub and use that once a week. Granted, you feel very oily immediately afterwards, but I notice a huge difference the next day.

Something that will make your hands feel like new is Bath and Body Works true blue spa overnight gel gloves and the lotion that you buy with it (glove potion number 9)... They have em for feet too. They are kinda expensive like 38 for the gloves then 12 for the lotion, but believe me, it's worth it.

Burt's Bee's Wax for the lips. All the healing without the annoying burn.

In addition to the many suggestions here, increasing your daily intake of water during the winter should also improve your overall skin condition.

I recommend that you check the humidity where you sleep as well. Keeping your bedroom at 50% (or better) humidity will help prevent one of the underlying causes of dry skin.

Hey Vesi - I have a recipe somewhere for homemade handcream that you can put on with gloves at night. I mean, don't put it on if you're getting any that night, because then you have to take the gloves off and it's a big mess. But if you do it on your hands and feet 2-3 times a week overnight, they'll be uber moisturized no matter what you do during the day.

I'll just find the thing and post it when I do.

Just like Percy in Of Men and Mice.

He was saving that hand for his special lady.
