You've probably heard this, but hopefully you assisted and talked to a GM. They're surprisingly helpful in replacing weapons that have been lost to the janitor or otherwise.

Or they picked it up, their script didnt know what it was, and pawned it. Hope thats not what happened.

I tried contacting you in-game just now but then you left. I found a trident on a minotaur today, though it may not be yours. PM me with the description of the one you lost?

This makes me wonder, if a critter picks it up does it stay spawned until someone killed it or if it goes away does the janitor get the item? I ask because a while back I lost a naginata in hiisskra over in rivers rest and several of us destroyed the area trying to find it with no luck and when I assisted the GM said the janitor had it but I know the last time it was seen a critter had it.

It despawns later than the other creatures in the area.

Always nice to go to an area and you only see one creature, look at it and it may spawned with a handheld item or perhaps picked something up.

I think they can also come back with it but eventually gets to the janitor.

Critters can despawn. So if a critter that has it despawns, I think thats "going to the janitor."

If something goes to the janitor seemingly it can enter the treasure system again. I made a custom lockpick, broke it, and left it at a table because I didn't want to fix it and couldn't throw it away (don't you know what that's worth?!). Next day or so I see someone picking in town WITH MY CUSTOM LOCKPICK! I tell him I made that lockpick he's using. He is skeptical, saying something like he found it on xxx critter and it was broken so he had to pay to fix it...
