I think some people are going to get an eye opener with how "balanced" the pvp was. True stun lock rogues night elf hunters stealthing and one shotting people. WF shamans. Only have basically one viable spec.

honestly though, i might go ahead and try it again. I had fun in vanilla.

Also, south shore.

I have fond memories of vanilla WoW but I sure don't want to go back to spending talent points on threat generation and buying ammo for bows.

PvP might be the best thing about it, actually. Sure, there are broken aspects to it, but it was still fun. Crowd control removal not being readily available to everyone was nice in a way (yay for Will of the Forsaken). The return of the dishonorable kill! Would be fun to see some of the old spells that have been ditched return; all of the curses, mana drain (fuck you, paladin!), summon-via-group Doomguard, etc. I thought the Horde having Shaman and Alliance having Paladin was nice. The old raid-style Strat and Scholomance were good back in the day, too.

There are drawbacks, though. Retardedly long Alterac Valley games, having to farm soul shards and essentially having zero bag space if you want to raid, then having to turn around and spend all of those shards on one healthstone at a time that you then had to trade off to people (used to be three 'levels' of healthstones based on talents, too, so that was fun) before making another 30 something times, and then later needing a few people to log out inside the raid in safe spots so the raid could be summoned in the next day (you DID farm shards on trash, right?!) ahead of the respawning trash that no one wants to clear again.

Probably the worst thing that most people have likely forgotten: mounts. Gold doesn't rain from the fucking sky and the mounts were expensive (and slow as fuck by modern standards, not to mention lack of flying, of course). I hope anyone playing enjoys AV, because they're gonna need that rep for the epic mount.

I dunno. I think people will have fun with it for a minute. I'm curious if they plan to drop 100% of the content on day one or if they're going to stagger releases. Also, I'm assuming this means no cross-realms mumbojumbo? Either way, I'm betting the PvP-minded people get the longest run out of it. At least the servers will be able to handle things so there won't be any loot-sliding!

Seems like forever ago.

It was forever ago. 2004.

I'm looking forward to this. I have spent the last couple months playing on a private vanilla server and it's been a good time. The private server has done a good job at reproducing the original but there are still some missing quests here and there as well as some bugs. It would be pretty sweet if they add the LFG tool to this.

Most of the people you talk to on these private servers will tell you they would rather pay the normal monthly sub if they had access to the original content.

It seems like the majority (or at least vocal minority) are really, really against the LFG tool because of "server identity". I like it, but I played on a low pop server where it was hard to get group content done. I suppose that raises the question of how many servers Blizzard will dedicate to Classic.

I managed to do alright once I got my alchemist leveled up. Undeath to water transmute made some solid gold back then and once I bought the recipe it was basically a passive source of income. My main was a warlock, so the 'free' mount quest was nice also. The mage and shaman both farmed the shit out of AV for discounted wolf mount. I can't imagine going all the way to BC without a mount.

I was meaning on a server only basis I guess, I understand the argument though on the basis of how it hurt guilds . When they changed to cross realm PvP it really changed the flavor of the battle ground experience too.

I can't imagine there only being one classic realm, I would imagine there will be in the 10's of thousands of players on the classic realms. Depending on success I would also bet they will come out with BC servers later.

The hurt to guild came with the introduction of 25 mans vs 20 mans. If they introduced 20 mans, the 40 man guilds would've just had to split their raids in half. Instead, they made 25 mans...which forced guilds to pick and choose.

70, to use Stormherald.

I still have screenshots on my old pc somewhere of random battleground matches that got savagely dominated by my warrior (full 60 pvp armor with Sulfuras) and a pocket holy paladin.

This will probably be the case with some people but I think it'll be a huge success with most people. It'll also be nice to see Orgrimmar pre-Cataclysm again. The game didn't feel the same to me anymore after Cataclysm came out but I could never put my finger on why. Or maybe I just happened to burn out around that time. I agree about the quality of life improvements though, that's going to take some getting used to again, not having a lot of those in place.

I have no idea how it's gonna go for me but I'm gonna check it out for sure. If for no other reason than to see how their servers handle shit like TM/Southshore battles that would frequently crash the game back then 13 years ago.

I think people will still be ok with the content. What’s really gonna fuck with people is the lack of quality of life improvements Blizzard has made since vanilla that everyone takes for granted now.

Kind of like how people who want to live in medieval times. The atmosphere is probably cool for a while until you have to deal with other things, like toilets not being invented yet, people not giving a fuck about hygiene and it not being a big deal, electricity, etc.

But mostly for lack of a good shitter.

It mostly is. Vanilla was at the tail end of the great 'give up your job so you can grind forever' graphical MMOs like Runescape, UO, and Everquest. It made things a little easier, but still had elements of them. It's going to be a shock to people who never experienced Vanilla that you can't just hit max level, do a few world quests, then be ready for raiding, you need to put your dues in collecting bear asses for hours a day only to find out your class/spec is useless.

I actually really enjoyed playing it again on a private server and only stopped playing because Blizzard announced they were releasing classic servers. You are correct though, people will be shocked when they can no longer run into a group of mobs and not wipe the group. We basically lived in UBRS, BRD, and DM for a couple months before we were able to do Molten core. Guilds will become like they were, which is a good thing for the most part.

I know they are saying that what they release will be it, that's kind of a bold statement before seeing how the classic wow servers influence subscriptions.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Vanilla at the time and I'll go back and play at least a little bit, but I don't see myself settling in and trying to be a serious raider again. I just don't have the time or interest to devote myself to that kind of thing anymore, that's why things like LFR or other more casual MMOs appeal to me. Shit back in Vanilla a friend and I shared an account, I'd play during the day when he was at work, and he'd play at night while I was at work, we still didn't get too far in the raiding scene.

I haven't played WoW in a year or so now. I have all the X-pacs and have capped at least 2 characters. I kind of liked this last one, but it totally fucked my play style with my hunter so I lost interest. Fucking no traps unless you're melee? fuck me.
