Played it a bit. The lootboxes are probably going to be a huge issue because of how closely they're tied into progression. You don't unlock weapons/abilities by playing a class, you unlock them with lootboxes.

I'm surprised you didn't notice. Besides the one box you got on logging in, I think I got one more randomly a little after getting all classes to level 5. Never got an ability, weapon, or scrap through anything but a box. Supposedly drop rates aren't final, but I don't know why they'd invite controversy like that.

Oh well, it'll probably be in the vault after 6 months like with BF1.

... Recently, early access Battlefront 2 players have been doing the math about the current heroes in the game that you need to unlock with Credits. While the game offers a selection you can use from the outside, adding new heroes like Vader or Luke to your roster currently costs 60,000 Credits each.

To put that in context, at 11 minutes per game and about 275 Credits earned a match, that works out to forty hours of game time to unlock one hero. And that means you can’t spend your Credits on anything else including loot boxes.

The concern now is that these new heroes will also be introduced at similarly steep prices. Even cut to 20 or 10 hours worth of Credits, it still doesn’t feel like what fans signed up for when DICE advertised “free future content.”

EA's response on Reddit is currently the most downvoted post in Reddit history (currently at -327k karma):

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.

I have like 2275 credits and it won't let me get more for 14 hours. I don't know if this is due to it being on trial and before official release or what. I fucking hope not. Vader is 80k credits, that'd take weeks to get him.

It will probably be in the EA Vault within 6 months, which seems to be the case with all their new releases. No real reason to buy individual EA games anymore.

Yeah, I'd say so. The story is only about 5 or 6 hours from what I've read. There is single player "arcade" which is basically you vs bots, but yeah. Don't pay full price if all you want is single player.

So, for the credit cap? That is only for single player activities. I've started playing MP and I'm gaining more now. Looks like you can gain about 3-4k an hour, or at least, I am. It may also be because I still have the easy achieves unlocking that grant credits.

Due to last-second changes to Star Wars Battlefront II's hero costs, I decided to hold my review, and won't post it until I have firm grasp on the new flow of the game. Electronic Arts clearly heard the uproar from the gaming community about the inflated costs of heroes, and slashed their prices by 75 percent. This is not a small tweak. It completely changes my take on the game – moving from an evil time sink to potentially reasonable. I need to dive back into all of the modes to see if any other changes were made.

For instance, during my review, completing the campaign earned players a unique loot crate that contained 20,000 credits. That reward is now 5,000 credits. A big change. What else is different? I need to find out. One thing I hope EA is addressing is Arcade rewards; after completing five challenges, I was alerted that I could no longer earn credits in this mode and that more would be available in 14 hours.

I actually don't think Simu did so hot on EG and especially the diving. Our problem as Gemstoners are the handful of whales who can apparently drop 1000's of $$ on this game that skews the fuck out of everything. But for EA, where millions play, I think this microtrans debacle is going to sink this game. I'm hoping people will wise up and stop this microtrans scourge once and for all.

In an update posted last night, EA DICE wrote:

“We’ve heard the concerns about potentially giving players unfair advantages. And we’ve heard that this is overshadowing an otherwise great game. This was never our intention. Sorry we didn’t get this right.

“We hear you loud and clear, so we’re turning off all in-game purchases. We will now spend more time listening, adjusting, balancing and tuning. This means that the option to purchase crystals in the game is now offline, and all progression will be earned through gameplay. The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more details as we work through this.”
