I missed seeing all of the daily and monthly stats of the old thread so I wrote up a simple script to keep track of shit while I'm online. It won't be as thorough as the other thread because I'm not going to keep a character logged on 24/7 but it will be running while my character is in the game, afk (hunting!) or not. The script I wrote up just does a simple WHO every 15 minutes, keeps track of how often it has done this, keeps track of the highest number of players online and what time this query was performed, keeps track of the lowest number of players online and what time this query was performed, and keeps track of the average number of players on a daily basis.

Here is what I have so far for yesterday, I added in the bit about keeping track of the times for the highest and lowest player after I had already collected some data so the lowest count doesn't have a time, going forward it should work though.

None of my characters are included in any of these stats by the way. All times are in EST by the way.

I added new stats today that keeps track of how many unique names have been seen and how often they have been seen in checks (100% of the time, 90%, 10%, only once, etc) but I haven't broken it down by professions yet. I'll add profession tracking later.

I'll be curious about the number during festivals. I wasn't originally going to return for EG, but the new pricing plan looks alright. so I probably will. If only to steal services from you bitches. I'll cut my account after, so... That'll be an interesting metric. How much does EG bring back, how many leave after.

I'm waiting on EG, last year was just absolutely horrible in terms of mechanical services offered. Festival of the Fallen this year had better services than EG last year. So until they release all the raffles and services offered I'm not buying a thing.

It's a bit early to infer too much from the number of people in only 1 check and the fewer than 15% checks, but I figure after a couple of weeks this will give us a pretty good indication of the number of people who only logged on once or log on very rarely that are either someone trying out F2P, made a throw away character for whatever reason, or is just someone's locker mule or something.

I also figure the 80%+, 90%+, and especially the 100% numbers will give us a good indication of the number of people who either live in the game or leave their character in game all day either at a table afk or afk scripting.

I reset the stats for unique names and whatnot to 0 because I added in profession tracking and wanted a fresh start since this is all still new. I don't track professions on a daily basis yet, just total unique profession names and how often they have been seen and all that stuff.

I don't do race tracking yet but I might add it at some point, if I do I won't reset the current data.

Looking over this, I'm uncertain if the unique names count tells us anything. I logged in 4 different characters on 9/12, for example, to find a certain alchemy component. (normally, I log in only my main)

I do think an additional stat that would be useful to report in the all time stats is how many total lookups/checks you've done. Based on people here that play a limited amount (like myself - maybe an hour a night, at best), we could calibrate an idea of where the active account base is at. (my guess is the 5%+ of checks, but not sure)

I can include the total number of checks in the all stats. I figure if I do an average of 40 checks a day 5% would be someone being logged in an average of 2 checks a day. This should give us a relatively good idea of active characters as opposed to characters that log in rarely (locker mules, throw away accounts, etc) or someone who no longer plays. Granted it's not going to be an exact science, especially since my character isn't logged in 24/7, but I'm open to suggestions.

How are you gathering level information? Just based on people's prename title?

Where is level information listed? I'm not seeing it. The way to do it though would be to ;info the person if they have it allowed.

That would be kinda nifty to add though and have it include the average level of everyone on each report.

Okay, there seems to be a small yet steady increase of people joining in, with some really big spikes of players reaching nearly 700. I wonder why it increased in size like that? Also, what matters the most in these stats? What does the number of unique names mean? Does it mean the total amount of player characters in game?

There was a popular event happening last month called Ebon Gate (if you want to trigger people refer to it as Ebon's Gate) which caused the spike in population.

Number of unique names is how many different characters my script has seen. Keep in mind these could be people the script only saw once. I figure the best gauge would be to look at the 10%+ stat, that should be a good figure for how many unique characters are active.
