I like the previews for it. Starts tonight. Hope it is awesome. Fox will probably cancel it after a season regardless.

A buddy of mine did some stunts for this show. Doubled a character that I have yet to see in the promos so maybe it's a reveal they are saving, or maybe they cut it. Keeping intentionally vague, keep an eye out for the holodeck combat simulator.

From what I understand, this show isn't actually supposed to be a comedy and Seth is actually worried about how Fox is presenting it. We shall see.

The Orville is a comedy. Accept it.

"The Orville is an comedy-drama science fiction television series created by and starring Seth MacFarlane that premiered on September 10, 2017, with new episodes to air Thursdays on Fox during the 2017–18 season."

Ososis

Its a star trek spoof as was described to me by my buddy. He told me a couple of the running gags.

Seth McFarland (imho) only does comedy and tragedy.

Gelston

It isn't wacky/zany like Galaxy Quest, but the dialogue is mostly meant to be humorous.

All I know about it is what was posted here. It's not like I'm in denial or anything. I'm just saying that having funny spots doesn't mean it's a comedy. If they're billing it as a comedy, so be it. It can be whatever it wants.

It's ok. FX are pretty bad. Music is grating, like they stole it straight from Deep Space 9 and turned it up a few more notches. Acting is a bit stiff, but it was the pilot. I'm hoping it gets the time it needs to find itself, but I doubt it will.

Ososis

I was told they got picked up for 13 episodes a while back, so that should be enough time to get where they need to...or not.

I didn't see an issue with the FX? I can't think of any TV shows that are really any better there. Didn't really notice the music. The acting wasn't the best, but it should improve. It'll get at least a season, because Seth MacFarlane has made tons of cash for Fox. All and all, I liked it enough to where I'll watch it next Sunday too.

Yeah, I almost never go off the official critics when picking movies anymore. That being said, the overall public opinion from critics was fairly low. I'm hoping it gets better now that we're past the pilot, because it definitely had its moments.

It's going to be one of those cult film gems. The premise was solid they just seemed to be 'holding back' for some reason or another. I would give it a few more episodes to see where it goes.

I feel like after 20 years of Family Guy he finally got tired of doing the same bit over and over and is consciously keeping himself at like a 4, which works very well for this type of show. It's never going to be prestige TV and doesn't intend to be, it's reasonably entertaining, I will continue to watch.

Anyways, The Orville is now moving to its intended time slot of Thursday nights, so no more worries about Football pushing it back.

The episode that aired last Sunday was production code 1LAB03. The one this Thursday will be 1LAB04, the following Thursday will be 1LAB02. After that it goes back to 1LAB05 and doesn't go out of production order again.

BTW, the director of "Command Performance" was the guy that played Lt Paris in Voyager.

Eh, it annoyed me. I honestly hate children in my TV shows and movies, whether it is some sort of issue like sex changery or not. I tried to look more at the back ground things than the foreground issue in such episodes.

Tisket
09-29-2017, 09:16 PM
Okay, soooo...I watched the last three episodes and I must admit, I enjoyed them more than I expected I would. Sure, there are corny moments but I think a human, spacefaring race wouldn't leave their sense of humor earthside when they took off for distant galaxies. And, the way it's handled, the random humorous moments don't detract from the storylines which I found interesting and entertaining. Besides, the original Star Trek had humorous moments and that worked out pretty well for that franchise. Time will tell with The Orville. I just hope the network and producers don't fold from the initial negative reviews and cancel the series before it has time to find it's space legs.

Since fiction in general almost always has been.

Heinlien - Starship Troopers - democracy fails due to lack of personal investment and responsibility

Azimov - discusses robots and humanity (and sexuality as I recall there was a story about some guy refusing to take his daughter to pound town so she got mad and killed him)

Phillip K Dick - robots and poon-tang and killing old people and other shit

Zelazny (mostly fantasy but a bit of sci-fi) - My Name is Legion discusses rebuilding the earth's environment (also read lord of light and bring me the head of prince charming)

Huxley (the only book anyone can name of his without wikipedia, the man was a fantastic author) - A brave new world was science fiction

I have just given a range of authors from about 1920 or so through 1995 that wrote science fiction and are considered masters at their craft. All spoke to social and political change.

The new authors are just not subtle. Good sci-fi makes you think. Shit tier Sci-Fi rams a tranny cock in your mouth while screaming "take it bitch!" Shit tier fuckers are ruining sci-fi.
