I'm looking to buy some 4x or 5x brig. what might i expect to pay both with and without padding? Which is best for a young paladin?

You can generally get sets of unpadded 4x brig as cheap as 35k, 5x usually goes for around 500k. Padded brig varies on the amount of padding, whether it's temporary or permanent, and also the enchant. The 6x HCP brig is 30m, but you might find a set of 4x SWCP for about 750k. You can also find super deals on armor by getting some that's not *quite* brig, like studded leather (buy a helmet separately) and temporary padding. A set of masterfully crit padded studded leather (4x) was sold for about a million coins, and it would definately outlast the time you'd spend in brig, as a paladin. Move up your armor as you get your armor ranks, the heavier the armor the better, generally.
