Doesn't change the fact that it took 20 years to go from $20 per mil to $10, then 6 months to go from $10 to $4

That $10 to $4 is Simu coming in and taking their cut which I am fine with. But, I don't think it should go below 3~4 dollars. At this rate, it allows for people to continue to sell silvers to pay sub. Otherwise, Simu loses a large chunk of the population as the people who are playing because it's "free" leave the game.

If you are gauging the value of snow cones during the winter as a market indicator for the rest of the year I think that is misleading.

Kind of.
Think about the number of currencies that we're aware of moving forward though: silvers, bloodscrip, E.G. shells or whatever the hell they are, and general tickets? There's only 1 that's useable 12 months a year. You see how it goes with Bloodscrip prices being high 2 weeks before DR and the first few days of the event, then tanking to 1k per near the end. How useful will E.G. shells be outside of October? Are people going to be more inclined to hold on the BS than they were following the previous half dozen runs? E.G shells?
I'm not convinced with the new help they're bringing on that there won't be a couple of events per year where silvers do become the required currency for high end items.

Let the market do what it does. Simu is a business and will be led by business decisions. The secondary market will adapt based on those decisions.
No, wait, let's regulate it! =)

I think we've been using silvers for so long we fail to see that silvers are the exact same thing. Apart from a great auction which happens once in several years when exactly do we need to use silvers? (apart from walking around "ferry money" that everyone has).
It used to be EG but that gate is closing. So, now what exactly? And to further complicate matters we know that every minute and every second these silvers are losing value because people are farming or just casually auto-grabbing them from some dead kobold. With scrips you know that the means of production is regulated by RL money and there is drainage coming every other month or so.
Scrips is a healthy currency with a continuously revolving ecosystem with Simu acting as a central bank. Silvers on the other hand well, Buzz said it best...

Silvers were steadily going for $8 for the last several years. They spiked to $14-15 per for RtCF, and up to $10 for last year's auction.
Other than that though they'd stayed pretty steady at $8 for years before Simu converted GS into a truck stop casino.

A week from now your average player will prefer having 50m instead of 50k BS. Farming isn't new, and farming using scripts isn't new, and it doesn't take much to neutralize new silver creation that occurs over a 30 day period. They were able to pull out 50% of new silvers created this month with 16 minutes of DR book sales. People needed BS to accomplish a goal for the week, so BS got hot.
Why would bloodscrip suddenly be the currency of choice now if it hasn't become that already after X number of DR runs? The frequency of DR isn't increasing (as far as we know). I think there's actually a higher likelihood of players burning out on DR than BS being the new silvers
People got spooked and dumped silvers at retarded low cost like they forgot what 4 months between DR runs feels like.

Have to disagree here. I've been transacting strictly in BS even when DR is not active the past year or so
- one currency has an inherent limiter - cash required for entry, and only earned 2-4 weeks out of the year and only by a portion of the population; the other is earned constantly, every minute of every day by every player in the game
-one currency gives direct access to the highest tier gear released, the other does not
- one is constantly drained twice a year, the other perhaps once a decade in a great auction
- the other gives me a "coin hand" for 500 scrip, the other does not

Coin hands are the most overrated item in the game btw.

Again, you're not the norm in this situation but the outlier. There's definitely people willing to sit on large chunks of BS for 4-5 months at a time, but those people are a low percentage and they typically also have large caches of silver. Also your point about one currency having a limiter as well as a drain is valid. There's only so much BS to go around, so people hoard it, spend it during events, or dump it periodically between runs. The idea that there's enough BS floating around the market to sustain all the p2p item transactions for even a week after DR is silly.
Bloodscrip is obviously high value during events, but again I ask you what's changed between this run and the previous 6 that now silver is going to stay devalued? The best predictor of current and future behavior is past behavior. Historically people all dump their caches of BS post-DR and return to silvers. This will happen again, and silvers will rebound to 6.50-7/m in short order.
Can you imagine the frenzy if GMs announced they were going to raffle off just 5 high end items at Festival of the Fallen or something? It wouldn't take much at all for them to pump silvers up past that 6.50-7/m I just mentioned.

It's not that you are wrong; it's just that there is one over-riding factor in this entire argument that is: Simutronics actively wants to lower the monetary value of silvers because it directly competes with Simucoins. There really isn't any way around this, both currencies is a pathway to high end gear, one of them the money goes into the pockets of players, the other to Simu's coffers. It's that simple.

I don't really agree that they want silvers to be devalued, but we'll see what formula worked out best for their bottom line. There were a ton of people paying for books with silvers in previous runs because it was beneficial for someone to drop $999 on 28 books and get a couple books for free, or make some profit. I'd be willing to bet there's people who didn't participate in DR for this reason. Did the books for silvers model of previous DR's benefit Simu more, or did this model of low silver value, less book for silver transactions but maybe more smaller purchases work better? More will be revealed.

Ultimately... and unfortunately it's going to be the pure Simucoin route. The theory is people sell books for silvers in order to get high-end gear for silvers or try to resell the silvers for a profit. The first portion, it's just better for Simu to take over the gear distribution by claiming both inter-player buying and merch buying.
The last bit is going to die out due to the first part, as silvers lose value and people eventually stop buying them (a vicious cycle) those excess funds(which otherwise would have gone to another player for silvers or some high end gear) will move into Simucoins as A.) It's predictably available B.) Customizable (don't have to settle for some other person's dream weapon). C.) It's protected, BS or GenTix etc. will always hold value due to regulation by Simu, it's RL $ cost to obtain, and it's circulation in and out from the 6 yearly p2p events.
I don't think silvers will lose complete value however, as they will still be used as an in-game form of payment between player and existing NPCs or off-the-shelf Merch NPCs. The odd raffle and even auction will also keep it buoyant. It will never return to the 7 dollar+ a mil days; Wyrom has literally stated this emphatically on the officials.
So, does that mean you can still buy books for silvers.. sure, it just might be for 20 mil a pop rather than 10 in the future, and limited quantities. What about high end gear between players? Of course, it's just most market prices will be double what they were with some player merchants refusing silvers outright in favor of the currency that's coming next (BS if DR or GenTix for EG etc.) Most importantly, could you still grind and sell silvers for RL cash, I would like to say yes.. but I wouldn't be surprised if I saw silver rates at $3 or even $2 per in the future.

It helps when you need 6 full sets of 25 services to get 10pts, 20 full sets of 25 to get 20pts. There just aren't enough BS events to fully fuck everybody...yet
